Let's laugh on mama
(trans rights are human rights)
80's Mom's, Part 2 - More Parenting in the 80's
Most of this is right, but uh... you had to be really exceptional to have internet in your house in the 80s. My mom had an .edu address and a portable computer about the size of a carry-on suitcase, and we didn't have internet in the house until about 1992. Most people did not have internet until several years after that.
I know of one person whose dad had internet at home in the 80s, which was just email, but he literally designed hard drive technology for Seagate and 3M.
We had dial up internet starting about in 84. Because I was a whiny little teenager. My mother in the 80s never wore any Miami Vice colors.
See, that's really fucking exceptional. Did you have a local BBS, or what were you connecting to? There weren't a lot of commercial services in 1984.
I don't remember us having internet, strictly speaking, but I vaguely remember Dad dialing in to work a couple times, and we did sign onto Compuserve once in a rare while. There were a couple shareware games we must have gotten off of BBSes in the 80s because they likely wouldn't have still been available later.
I have a trans friend who will correct people on my pronouns when I don't bother, and I find it interesting.
I've gotten into some intense conversations about this with other trans friends, one of whom told me that by not correcting getting misgendered every single time it happens, I'm tolerating disrespect. I understand what they're saying, but overall I feel like, when I don't correct people who misgender me, I'm the one doing the disrespecting.
If I don't correct someone, it's because they are literally not worth the time it takes for me to utter the words. I would rather they have the wrong idea than take the time to engage with them even for a few seconds. I don't care what they think, least of all about what I may or may not have in my underpants. Before the day is over I will have forgotten they exist.
So, yeah. If I want to have any kind of continued relationship with you going forward, I will correct you, because I want you to know that about me. If I don't, meh.
Everyone say thank you american indigenous people for cultivating corn, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cacao, pumpkin, squash, and anything i missed. Makes life more meaningful globally
Yes actually I will not shut up about how these foods are from the Americas/cultivated by the people there, and did NOT exist in Asia, Africa or Europe before the 1490s, there was an absolute food revolution going on in the 1500s. Whatever you think is traditional food for your country? Check again, you’ve maybe only been using that ingredient for maybe 500 years. Here is the full list of crops, it is very interesting :))

spin the wheel to be assigned a mysterious source of income - who will grant you 10k usd every month without fail!!
will you take the money?
yes
no

I got assigned a sports betting site that also bets on controversial political topics. And... yes, I'll take the money. Why? People keep claiming they're all for the wealthy's extra income being used to assist those with less, so why would it be a problem that I, someone with much less, am being paid directly instead of waiting for UBI? They're not buying my silence or my loyalty. They're getting less from me than Raid Shadow Legends gets from the average youtuber/twitch sponsorship.
headcanon that a ferengi tradition is putting your new baby up for sale at a ridiculous price to show how valuable they are to you (everyone has to be polite and not actually buy them or hands will be thrown, people will be sued, etc etc)
I love the idea of Ferengi traditions that are both ha-ha capitalism but also create a functioning culture that’s more than a metaphor.
So, this is related to a headcanon I have. There's a kind of ritual sale of childhood goods as part of the Ferengi coming-of-age, which was featured in an episode of DS9. The ostensible purpose is to raise capital for the young Ferengi male. But, like, if the Ferengi were approaching this in their usual capitalistic mindset, you wouldn't really get much from what's basically a glorified garage sale
My headcanon is that it is the accepted practice to buy those goods at much higher prices than you would normally pay, serving as a culturally acceptable way of effectively giving financial support
Oh I love these, especially because of the spoken and unspoken meta-traditions around the tradition! Maybe they work similarly to the “speak now or forever hold your peace” thing in human marriage ceremonies. Everyone at a human wedding understands you’re not actually supposed to say anything at that point, it’s just a formality—but you see characters do it all the time in literature and entertainment, because it makes for such a juicy plot twist.
I bet “newborn gets purchased by evil jealous ex-business partner” is a classic plot hook in Ferengi soap operas. It’s their version of getting sold to One Direction.

Redraw of the illustration I did way back in 2019. Time flies.
Monster dating sim with a Sierra adventure game circa 1990 ethos about bad endings where the monsters are genuinely well meaning and there are just an unbelievable number of ways for them to accidentally kill you, and – this is key – there's a fuckass narrator who has a unique stupid pun for every single one.
Ideally it should also have a 90s Sierra adventure game approach to routing, like you can make a seemingly innocuous decision in the first five minutes of play that locks you into an unavoidable bad ending. You neglect to pick up the condoms from the nightstand (which is not even visually flagged as interactable) in the very first scene, and three quarters of a route later you have a bizarre allergic reaction to your partner's bodily fluids that somehow causes your head to pop off of your shoulders and go shooting out the window like a bottle rocket. The narrator responds with a strained wordplay about the semantic distinction between "getting" head and "giving" head.
no one talks about how straight up painful it is to be the bigger person when deep in your soul you just want to be a huge bitch about it
