Having a call centre in Canada is much more expensive than having one in India or the Phillipines and a company makes this choice entirely for the purpose of having agents without an "overseas" accent. The company believes the lack of annoyance experienced by the American customers is worth the extra cost because it will lead to greater sales.

Circuit City did this 20 years ago and they weren't wrong. Within a few months, our Canadian call centre so outpaced one in the Phillipines (sales, handled call volume, and other metrics) that the campaign at the Phillipines' call centre was shut down. People with the same job as us, but with an overseas accent instead of a Canadian one, lost their source of income and our manager expected us to high-five.

So yeah. This changes that game.
