“On February 14, 1779 Captain James Cook of the british royal navy was killed by natives in Kealakekua Bay, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Cook was a true savage, who sailed across the world bringing murder, rape, disease, and colonialism to native peoples all over the Pacific.
When he was killed, Cook was trying to kidnap the Hawaiian Aliʻi (tribal chief) Kalaniʻōpuʻu in response to an unknown person stealing a small boat. In the process, he had threatened to open fire on the islanders.
At this point, the Hawaiians decided
they had enough of Cook’s bullshit, threatened with mass murder and the kidnapping of one of their tribal leaders, the Hawaiian islanders finally gave this piece of shit what he deserved: a beatdown on the beach, and a knife to the chest. This put an end to a lifetime of predatory behavior and conquest of lands in the service to the british empire.

For everyone that doesn’t know, there has been a school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC. There are 25 injured and 10 dead so far, one of which is the assumed shooter who shot herself.
The shooting occurred on the shared campus of the High School, Elementary School, Daycare, and Community College. The majority of the victims were students at the high school, though 2 were found at a second location which is currently being searched further.
I do not know much else, only what’s being broadcast on CBC, but Tumbler Ridge is a small community of less than 3000 people as of 2021. This would hit hard and be a major tragedy anywhere, but for such a small, close community to lose so many people is horrific. Rest in peace to the victims of this tragedy.
Update - for fucks sale stop blaming this on the fact that the shooter is a trans woman. Start blaming it on the fact that she still somehow had access to guns while having a history of mental illness, having had guns seized from her family home prior to this, and having a license that was a year out of date.
Start blaming this on her, the lack of mental health support and care, the lack of healthcare that could have prevented this, and incompetence from the RCMP and the law in general when it comes to guns. Nobody without a full mental health check or up to date gun license should be allowed a gun. No minor should be allowed to buy or access guns outside of a shooting range.
This is a provincial and federal issue. Do not blame a marginalized community for this tragedy, blame the perpetrator and the system that allowed her to do this.
If you want to help, here’s some things you can do regardless of where you are -
It is quite possible that many of the survivors will have to leave the town in order to seek medical and mental help after this tragedy, as Tumbler Ridge has few doctors and I’m not even sure it has a hospital. In addition, many of the major employers have shut down in the last decade or have moved out of town.
