Rosario Giron was supposed to come back home.
On July 10, 2025, Rosario left for work in the morning, like she usually does. She said goodbye to her husband, and to her three kids: Alexis (18), Melanie (14), and Mateo (7). She picked up a friend and headed off, like it was any other day. But, as she got to her workplace, she saw several ICE vehicles. Panicked, she tried to drive away, but instead crashed into one of the vehicles.
That morning, Melanie did not hug her mother goodbye.
Every morning, she would, but that day, it was different. She was upset with her---Rosario had told her to go clean up after their cats, and Melanie had begrudgingly done it, even though it left her frustrated. Melanie didn't know that that may have been the last time she saw her.
Rosario was detained by ICE on July 10. Just before, she managed to call her husband and explain the situation. He's been grief-stricken ever since, and almost debilitatingly so. He was unable to work.
On July 11, Rosario was sent to Iowa. Her husband struggled to find a lawyer, while Mateo was informed that his mom wasn't coming home. Rosario could call, but it would cost them, and they only had one person working to pay for the four of them, plus legal expenses.
On July 14, a GoFundMe was started in their names. Their local church community has contributed, but there's still a ways to go.
Bail is expensive, and there are other legal priorities as well. Four mouths to feed. A house. Hot water.
Rosario's family needs your help. With your donation, they can bring her home for as long as possible until she is, unavoidably, deported. At the very least, help Melanie give her that last goodbye hug. Help them get everything in order so that they can prepare for the worst. Families don't deserve to be torn apart. Every penny counts.
