my daughter has a smile to fix the world
really totally not significant at all that caul's most comforting memory - the sole tether that anchors her against euthanising herself permanently - is of a woman who sang her songs of "the better body that is yet to come". for a child with a disabling congenital birth defect, that would have been a formative lifeline. and the worst thing is, it's actually a pretty radical sentiment in a world where the ideologies governing it are based on the idea that "everything yearns to be what it once was". it just so happens to undermine its own intent to encourage progress by inflaming ableist sentiment through implication. so now that child carries that woman's severed head around like a security blanket against the horrors of living, and regularly kills herself to escape the indignities and limitations of her body. the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
fascinated by the fact that mr serrikane and sore morel--despite likely having been on different sides of the war and very clearly having different opinions towards the ruling government during the time of the story--are such similar figures in their families. both not quite in touch with reality, both prone to losing their temper, both disabled by the same war, both alienating their children with their behavior (especially their bigotry), both totally unable and unwilling to stop under any circumstances. no amount of pro vs. anti government will stop you from being a bigoted father whose hatred and unresolved trauma is killing your relationship with your family! patriarchs are still patriarchs no matter what their stance on the sitting government is! god, i'm so happy owhe exists. writing is BACK!!!!
A young citizen of the nation by the unfortunate name of Caul Serrikane is preparing to die. Again.
some owhe doodles that i shared in the tsv discord but forgot to post here (inkblot, lively, and past sore + dogged)
Figuring out designs...
I am happy with dogged's portrait, I think it captures how I pictured her quite well! But I feel that timmer should be a little more disheveled, I made them too neat and pretty
You’re an organ in the working body of this world, Mallory Glass. No amount of scornful looks and sour remarks is going to change that.
!! CW DROWNING, SPOILERS FOR THE LAST EPISODE OF TSV !!
animatic :> (audio is rain by jack stauber)
Do you think there was a moment, as Carpenter was hijacking a plane to fly without clearance through a military quarantine zone with a dying man who is also a bomb, where the Cairn Maiden thought to herself "damn maybe that tree isn't the place"
The promised bride looked into the water, and her true reflection stared back- Hallowed by the tide she was, and she now had a purpose.
i love when WOMEN escape stories. men…stay trapped forever
I will do anything to be free
Even escape?
I dont know. Can i do that
