@eatyourpapitas
"this is an inaccurate adaptation" okay but is it good "this didn't happen in the book" does it make sense in the context of the new work though "they totally changed the plot" and is the new one good or bad "it's completely different" not what I asked "they changed all the stuff I like" then I get why you wouldn't be into it but I'm asking about its own artistic merits "this character is meant to be blonde" I couldn't give less of a fuck
the worst sin is "it's boring" and soooo many adaptations can't clear that bar
Here's how we can get a mean old grognard like Natalie to move away from D&D: Recommend me a TTRPG system that (1) doesn't have much in the way of lore or a setting at all, (2) is more complex than Powered By The Apocalypse, and (3) is less complex than GURPS. That'll do it.
To be honest, I dislike most of the TTRPG writing I've seen. I think myself and the average gameswright have divergent, perhaps irreconcilable opinions as to what constitutes compelling worldbuilding and storytelling. You must understand that that thing homebrewers do where they're like "It's D&D but in a setting for which D&D is utterly unsuitable" is how I run Every Game in Every System, and I will not stop. D&D is in this way a great convenience because, while I am Not a fan of the Forgotten Realms, I am sufficiently familiar with the setting that I can easily and speedily get rid of anything I don't like. And I'm hesitant to try out all of these new systems because the thought of going through All That Mess again and again forever is quite daunting. The meaningful (to me) differences between individual systems are entirely mechanical, because we were never going to play in the book's world to begin with.
Just gimme the numbers. Me and the players can source everything else, we just need the numbers.
FUCKING EXACTLY
I cannot tell you how many times I've orbited a discuscussion in which people talk about moving away from DND and the alternative games are extremely on the rails, with very little perceivable flexibility to edit or expand. Like, a game explicitly centering on vampires ONLY with mechanics for vampire characters ONLY doesn't leave much room to create non-vampire characters.
The beauty of DND is that I actually do not know a single person that plays DND from the text. Everyone I've ever known or ever met has used the rules and mechanics as a jumping off point to create something that is very explicitly not DND.
But that's not a feature of D&D, that's a side effect of people being unwilling to play games other than D&D. There is nothing about D&D that makes it prime homebrew territory other than the fact that because more people play it you are more likely to have experienced or at least heard of a good D&D homebrew. I promise you can homebrew other games just fine!
It's like... it's like you're describing being imprisoned in a room with ugly yellow and brown checkerboard walls that you eventually covered with your own designs because you were bored and couldn't leave the room for twenty entire years. Then someone comes by and says "hey I broke the lock on your door, do you want to check out some of these other rooms?" and they show you a lavender room with a beautiful beach sunset painting and an art nouveau room and a room with Roman columns and a room with William Morris wallpaper and also a lot of rooms that are just pretty gradients or a handsome pthalo green or a relaxing pale yellow. many of them are white with white trim. but none of those rooms have your personal designs you added due to being locked inside the ugly checkerboard room for twenty consecutive years, so you go "nahh i think I'll stay in the ugly checkboard room where i can draw on the walls whatever i want" even though iF YOU WERE LOCKED IN A DIFFERENT ROOM FOR TWENTY CONSECUTIVE YEARS YOU'D DRAW ON THE WALLS IN THERE TOO!!!
i might get flamed but I keep finding dnd to be too complex and restrictive and that's why I prefer fate for more narratively rich and fun games
DELTARUNE SPOILERS
FUCK OFF
OH!!
OH!!!!
THE LAMPS!
Those are the suns! 7 suns! Thats why theres light in the darkworld, thats because of how important those 7 lights are to Asgore's flowers!

we can’t keep letting him get away with this
yeah
they call you mad for saying this
Uncles and Nephews can perform especially powerful attacks together. Experiment with different uncles and nephews to discover their unique abilities.
this is what LMFAO did with party rock anthem
There is a really funny synergy between two deltarune theories nobody is considering
bonus:
For some reason this song has a dark undertone that always creeps me out…….I cant explain it. Maybe its just psychological from all the grinding i did to level up Final Form in this world. *shivers*
i love this track so much because it’s just such a weirdo melody that no other game I can think of COULD even have. It’s hard to imagine any other game composer who would think to use these pitches–there’s not even really a completely functional key or mode that fits this composition, but it’s grounded with the low Ds as the pedal tone that sort of anchors the listener. The rhythm being this incessant onslaught of 8th notes also serve to anchor the listener while the wacko pitches serve their duty as the real disorienting element of the track. Being unable to predict which pitches come next makes Yen Sid’s tower literally unsettling in the soundspace– it’s all NARRATIVE, BABEY.
And the instrumentation!! Honkeytonk piano for kind of a saloon vibe, high grand piano twinkles echoes up top for a spacey vibe. It’s so anachronistic in its instrumentation. KH2’s music is so thoughtful, and this is just one more example of how the compositional choices match the setting and scenario. “Magical Mystery” walked so “Master of Masters” could run. god, shimomura’s mind is unreal
let the bodies hit the floor is such a scary song. usually bodies hitting the floor isn’t a good thing but this guy wants it to happen anyway.
and yet he insists there’s nothing wrong with him. haunting
Hm, seems like this blog could be shadowbanned now. Can't change my avatar, I don't think this blog shows up in searches anymore, stuff in my activity notifications don't show any images, and this blog is inaccessible outside of the main dashboard with seemingly no way to reach the archive. Its been fun and I'll still keep posting to this account every so often but tbh this blog did exactly what it was meant to do in its current iteration, which was to be a shield and take the fall for the main blog so that one wouldn't become shadowbanned again. Feels like the end of an era because I've already appealed this blog once in the past and I'm unsure if they'll un-shadowban it a second time. Tumblr really fell off, heck the internet as a whole since 2018 really fell off- and its sad.
Another one bites the dust.
It truly is sad to see what this site has become. It used to be so full of life and Freedom of creation...
