In the Second World War, Japan was defeated by America. Following this, in April 1945, American troops entered Japan. **General Douglas MacArthur was appointed the Supreme Commander of Japan on behalf of America, and he remained there until 1951. According to the will of General MacArthur, a new constitution for Japan was drafted, which was approved by the Japanese Assembly on November 3, 1946. Under this constitution, the status of the Emperor of Japan was reduced to a mere **"Symbol of the State."** Under Article 9 of the constitution, the Japanese people pledged that they would never maintain land, sea, or air forces, nor would any other war potential be maintained.

On the surface, this system seemed equivalent to the permanent national death of Japan. However, the leaders of Japan acted with great foresight and accepted it completely. This was because they saw that although this constitution closed the path for Japan in terms of military and political dominance, the path of progress through science and industry remained wide open. The Japanese nation retreated from the fields of war and politics and began utilizing the remaining opportunities in the fields of education and industry. To the extent that only forty years later, historians had to write these words about Japan:
