You need to be careful with how you respond to a fae. If they ask, “can I have your name” and you give it, then they’ll take it. If they ask can I have your attention and you say yes, they’ll take your ability to focus.
Lilia, a fae, asks to borrow Cater for a bit and he complies without skipping a beat. Then it’s like, oh damn—did I just sell my being away for an undisclosed period of time?
In medieval culture, an event like a royal christening is not a private party; it’s the public social event of the year. To not invite any person of rank to such an event is a deadly insult.
Maleficent is certainly someone you wouldn’t want at a party, but she’s also someone powerful enough that only a fool would ever dare treat her with such blatant disrespect. The only way the King and Queen could possibly have gotten away with not inviting Maleficent was to not invite any of the fairies at all; inviting the other fairies and excluding her is explicitly taking sides in the conflict between the fairy factions.
Which means they made themselves her sworn enemies, and she responded by treating them as such from then on. If you actually get into analyzing the social dynamics of the scene, it’s very clear that Maleficent was willing to show mercy at first by giving the King and Queen a chance to apologize for their disrespect to her. She doesn’t curse Aurora until after she gives them that chance and they throw it back in her face with further disrespect.
And yeah, if the King and Queen had done the properly respectful thing and invited her, Maleficent would have given Aurora a scary awesome present. Moreover so would the other fairies, because at that point both sides would be using it as an opportunity to show off and one-up each other. What they gave her before Maleficent showed up was basically just trivial party favors by fairy standards.

hi, anon! heh... i would be more than happy to talk about silidia moments in the cards and story 😎✨ while i can't say if there's a specific moment or reason that gets people interested in silidia, these are some interactions that i personally think make them quite an endearing pair. i will try to organize it by canon, bonus content, indirect moments/silly personal reasons why i like them. my wild ramblings commentary which i will put in purple and italics isn't necessary to read, i'll provide links if anyone just wants to skip to the stories themselves). in-depth explanation and links below:

(silidia birthday duo! there are several moments in this vignette but a highlight i enjoy is how you can tell idia does admire silver even if it's kind of subtle with how he points out that he relates to silver. also how idia even asks silver for advice on how he can improve with PE which silver is so quick to invite him to join himself and sebek to practice when idia's wondering who he can do it with which is really sweet... twst give me more silver sebek idia moments please... adorable trio...)

Personal Thoughts on Silidia:
sorry this is so long already no pressure to read it all but i think what draws me to silidia is how they are able to connect, open up with each other, and feel comfortable doing so. it's the simple things where idia who mostly keeps to himself is happy to talk about his interests with silver who gladly listens to him in an earnest and thoughtful way.
while they're from different backgrounds, silver and idia really are quite similar. from their childhoods where they both mainly grew up with their families and not having much contact with the outside world, they both value their families and talk so fondly about them, both of their loved ones (ortho and lilia) wishing for idia and silver's happiness and for them to live their own lives even without them around, their shared sense of duty... i think their relationship has so much potential to explore these ideas and grow together as the two interact with each other more.
even in their differences, i like the idea of idia and silver learning from each other and improving themselves. idia is more familiar with technology and silver is more in tune with nature. maybe idia can go outside more because of silver lol and silver has expressed wanting to learn more about technology in order to improve his weak spot.
there's also like little things i enjoy about them, for example, how idia likes animals and silver is often surrounded by them...
possible book 6 and 7 spoilers ahead and i'm really reaching with this one lmao but i think it's neat how idia and silver both have curses and how in the films they are based on both involve curses being broken by the power of love :')
