sometimes  i  think  about  north  &&  art  ,    just  because  of  how  important  it  is  to  markus  &&  how  human  it  is  .

north  would  probably  really  like  dancing  ,    her  model  as  a    ‘  traci  ’    has  an  innate  boundary  check  ,    as  well  as  a  sense  of  balance  &&  rhythm  .    so  even  doing  it  for  fun  she’d  be  really  ,    really  good  at  it  .

the  second  is  more  personality  based  rather  than  encoded  ,    but  she’d  probably  like  forms  of  sculpting  &&  found  object  art  --    just  something  to  do  with  jittery  finger  tips  that  doesn’t  require  a  plan  or  any  particular  grace  .    violent  &&  noisy  art  of  bent  metal  &&  spray  paint  would  suit  her  just  as  well  .

something  that  really  bothered  me  about  that  rooftop  scene  between  markus  &  north  (  more  than  the  romance  /  f/ujoshis  don’t  interact  )  ,  it  was  what  she  said  when  asked  about  her  deviation  “ ...  and  without  knowing  why  ,  i  realized  i  couldn’t  take  it  anymore  .  i  strangled  him  &  i  ran  away  .  ”  that  beginning  section  ‘  and  without  knowing  why  ’  felt  the  result  of  misogynistic  writing  ---  other  androids  we’ve  been  presented  with  deviated  &  could  feel  why  ,  something  new  .  something  different  ,  something  expressively  hurtful  &  painful  .

todd  was  going  to  kill  alice  ,  markus  was  watching  his  father  die  next  to  him  because  he  wasn’t  allowed  to  fight  back  against  leo  ,  etc  .  north  didn’t  just  snap  one  day  without  knowing  why  ,  it  doesn’t  make  sense  to  how  we  understand  deviation  .  &  then  i  realized  ---  everything  she  said  is  vague  &  only  after  multiple  attempts  from  markus  to  get  her  to  talk  about  a  painful  ,  uncomfortable  trauma  in  her  life  --  that  is  so  different  from  the  experiences  of  the  people  she  surrounds  herself  with  .  

so  ?  she  did  ,  but  painted  the  story  with  brush  &  ink  ,  tempering  blood  &  pain  for  ears  who’ve  never  really  known  it  :  i  didn’t  know  why  ,  i  strangled  him  and  i  ran  away  .  (  i  would  like  to  comment  that  NO  ONE  has  ever  connected  north  to  the  man  she  murdered  ,  on  her  record  in  the  dpd  she  is  only  listed  as  missing  not  a  homicide  case  )  .  there  is  more  to  that  story  ,  much  more  --  but  even  in  that  moment  of  intimacy  ,  she  told  markus  just  enough  to  get  him  to  stop  asking  .  &  when  it  comes  to  telling  him  she  didn’t  know  why  ?  she  lied  .  ‘ there  ,  now  you  know  everything ’

How does one tame a fire? The answer lingers upon the tip of his tongue, but swiftly, he comes to swallow it: Markus, mind you, hasn’t some desire to smother North. All the same, the concern that curves his brow – sloping it, really, adding more fine lines to wreathe those ocean eyes – comes terribly close to stifling. He wants to reach out and tell her I’ve got it. An android, however, cannot give commands to flames.

So, instead, he rises to his feet, and gaze heavy like that creeping of night, moves to follow as she ambles for the crates. I’m fine? He frowns as her wound sputters in the deafening silence. She can’t think him a fool. “I’ll feel better knowing you haven’t hurt yourself again somehow,” he supplies diplomatically. To the surprise of none, it bleeds in sincerity also. “This isn’t a one time thing, North.” Trust him: he’s noticed each limp.

the  fingers  of  north’s  working  hand  fumble  through  plastic  tubs  ;  filled  over  with  discarded  parts  (  both  found  &  taken  from  their  deceased  )  .  she’s  used  to  performing  small  repairs  ,  though  not  with  an  audience  breathing  down  the  tangled  cables  in  her  neck  .   it  doesn’t  take  long  for  her  to  find  compatible  components  for  her  torn  wiring  ---  plucking  them  from  hollow  plastic  .  brown  eyes  avoid  the  mismatched  sea  of  worry  ,  trained  on  the  task  at  hand  until  fingers  are  moving  again  .

            ❛❛      the  rest  of  the  damage  is  just  cosmetic  ,  i’ll---  .     ❜❜               a  pause  .  ‘  this  isn’t  a  one  time  thing  ’  .  she  glances  down  towards  covered  body  before  glancing  up  to  him  ,  slowly  ,  shaking  her  head  .            ❛❛      it’s  a  great  big  world  out  there  ,  markus  ,  there  are  a  lot  of  ways  an  android  can  break  an  arm  .     ❜❜

a    strung  out    trigger–happy  detective  ,  red  ice  &  cut  up  finger  tips  against  ‘  a  plastic  doll  ’  dripping  thirium  from  a  wound  in  its  chest  .  they  won  ,  they  were  getting  a  freedom  (  little  by  little  )  ,  but  some  people  were  as  pissed  as  ever  .  it  could  have  been  markus  ,  bullet  buried  in  bio  components  &  flickering  —  but  no  ,  unluckily  for  gavin  it  was  north  ,  with  no  pacifism  to  be  found  in  a  coiled  body  ready  to  fight  and  kill  .

her  face  was  recognizable  now  ;  not  as  a  plain  ,  ‘  traci  ’  wr400  model  ,  but  as  north  ,  the  matriarch  of  a  people  –  each  longing  to  be  free  .  the  more  controversial  of  the  mouth  pieces  of  jericho  ,  to  be  certain  .  ‘  i’m  gonna  blow  your  brains  out  right  here  ,  barbie  &  no  one’s  gonna  fucking  care  .  ’  no  one  needed  to  .  a  race  against  the  clock  ,  she  had  no  clue  if  it  would  work  —  no  time  for  analysis  ,  she  sprints  to  one  side  ,  tears  gun  from  human  finger  tips  in  a  shitty  ally  .  the  gun  shot     R A N G    loud  against  brick  walls  that  encased  an  execution  ,  as  gavin  fell  to  the  ground  in  a  wet  ,  messy  thud  .  

no  pomp  or  circumstance  given  to  a  human  corpse  ;  thrown  out  like  rotting  trash  ,  in  a  nearby  dumpster  .  it  can’t  affect  human  relations  ,  if  humanity  never  learns  of  the  digression  (  an  android  killing  a  human  ?    gasp  !    as  if  hundreds  of  her  kind  ,  half  alive  &  fading  –  weren’t  wandering  the  dump  even  after  their  ‘  liberation  ’  )  .  north  tends  to  her   own  dripping  wound  ,  a  breath  escaping  through  red  lips  ,            ❛❛       dammit  .     ❜❜

(♕)——markus scratched under his chin, a sure sign of his nervousness. it wasn’t as if there was an actual itch there, of course, but there was… palpable apprehension. “north i-…” no. what did he have to apologise for? everything was, for now, at least, going smoothly. “look. can we talk? i’ll give you some space if you need. i know you and i haven’t…” the words caught in his throat and markus shifted his mismatched gaze to his boots. haven’t always gotten along. 

(♕)——it was a friday night. snow fell in flakes the size of quarters, settling in the collar of his coat and around their feet. he watched a few of those flakes blend with the rest of the snow cover on the path. “we haven’t always gotten along.” markus finally spoke again. “but i’d like that to change. i’d like to get to know you. as friends, if nothing else. i trust you with my life.”

they  all  followed  him  ;  simon  ,  josh  ,  lucy  --  &  why  wouldn’t  they  ?  he’d  been  nothing  short  of  a  perfect  leader  (  you’re  the  one  we’ve  been  waiting  for  )  strained  words  on  dry  plastic  lips  .  ra9  save  them  ;  as  much  as  north  wanted  ,  wanted  to  believe  them  .  to  join  the  crowd  in  their  endless  hope  &  enthusiasm  ,  this  feeling  of  dread  that  twisted  in  her  circuits  would  not  cease  .  it’s  a  trick  ,  the  humans  aren’t  changing  --  they’re  preparing  for  an  even  worse  attack  .

the  android  was  still  upon  a  milk  crate  ,  legs  crossed  &  eyes  trained  on  collected  snow  fall  --  she  didn’t  grant  markus  much  ,  nothing  beyond  an  askance  glance  in  the  direction  of  his  voice  ,  back  still  turned  to  him  .            ❛❛      i  would  never  do  anything  to  hurt  the  revolution  ,  markus  ,  if  you  need  me  ,  i  have  your  back  .      ❜❜
