On Thursday, Whole Foods suggested to its almost 5 million followers they start cooking collard greens, with a puzzling image choice. Twitter had a few words (and a lot of memes) for Whole Foods, about not only the perhaps “gentrification” of collard greens — but what they put in it.

my #1 piece of college advice for you youngsters would be to always keep a phone charger, snacks, and an umbrella in your backpack at all times

Buy a reusable water bottle / container. Especially if you walk around a lot.

Buy a watch because you can’t always look at your phone believe it or not.

Bonus if it has alarms (preferably quieter ones) so you can keep track of your time.

ALWAYS. KEEP. YOUR CHANGE. Especially silver coins! Adds up fast.

Talk to the people sitting next to you in class. Exchange phone numbers or something. Keep friendly. If you ever miss class, let them know and ask if they can share their notes. Always have at least 2 people in case 1 isn’t there.

MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOUR PROFESSORS. Seriously, they can help you get where you want to go in life by giving you good references and making your life easier.

I disagree with “don’t skip class”…this is a really variable thing. If attendance isn’t worth much for your final grade and you know you don’t learn well from just listening to lectures, go ahead and skip every now and then. (For discussion-based courses or courses where there could be pop quizzes or a lot of in-class work, this does not apply - go to class!)

Other advice:

- If you have severe anxiety, please speak to your professors. They may give you other options for making up participation points if you have difficulty talking during class discussions. Not every professor will be willing to work with you, but you won’t know until you ask (and yes - you can ask by email, though in person is better).

- Honestly, if you have any mental health concerns, it’s probably a good idea to at least try talking to your school’s counselors and/or disability office. They may not help you, but you won’t know until you ask. (they can help you get accommodations - taking tests in the testing center rather than in class, getting additional time on exams, helping you communicate your needs to your professors, etc)

- If your school has a gym/rec center, make use of it. Trust me, college will make you want to stay inside and not leave your bed/couch on any days off…it’s not good. If you are physically able, make a point of going to the rec center or gym at least once a week. Even if you only spend 20 minutes on a treadmill, going there did at least 2 things for you: 1) it made you leave your house/apartment/dorm and get at least a little fresh air, 2) it got you moving and that gets oxygen to your brain and helps keep your energy and mood up and can really help with studying and memory.

- Take care of yourself. Not just physically, but mentally. Most schools have a counseling center that is free to students - use it. If you feel like you’re getting super stressed, talk to someone. If you’re lonely or homesick, talk to someone. If you’re struggling with depression, talk to someone. If you feel like hurting yourself PLEASE talk to someone. Self-harm is not stigmatized nearly as much in college and you’re an adult, so your parents will not be notified unless you are actively threatening suicide.

- All-nighters seem like a good plan, but whatever studying you do will be less effective and you won’t remember as much if you haven’t slept. The only time you should risk staying up all night is for projects and papers…if you are studying for an exam or quiz, GO TO SLEEP.

- Join a club or group. Start with just one so you don’t get overwhelmed. Clubs/groups are a great way to make friends and can be awesome for stress-relief. There are frequently clubs for each major, so if you know what you’re going to study I suggest looking at that first…but things like Glee/show choir, fandom clubs, and religious clubs (if you’re religious) can all be really amazing.

- Don’t panic about the Freshman 15. You might gain a bit of weight if you’re on your own for the first time and dealing with a lot of stress, it’s not the end of the world. If you obsess, you’re opening yourself up to a) extra stress and b) possibly developing a really unhealthy relationship with food. Focus on nutrition and health instead of weight. The last thing you need in college is a brand spankin’ new eating disorder…and unfortunately that’s something that happens fairly regularly. So manage your stress and don’t freak out about your weight - you’ll be happier and more successful if you can do that!

These people commonly put in their descriptions that they are “roleplay” blogs to try to cover their asses.  Unfortunately for them, they also have that little tendency to post pictures of all the merchandise they’ve stolen, list the stores they’ve stolen from, and provide tips on shoplifting.

Boosting (the term they use for selling stolen goods, meaning that THEY AREN’T EVEN ALWAYS STEALING FOR THEMSELVES)

There’s a good chance they will begin using new tags after this, but plenty of evidence can be found in the above tags.  They’ve also begun using the term “swap”.

Many of these people will likely change their urls (some have started using “thrift” in place of “lift”), change “lift” to “lft”, add an extra letter at the end of their url, or start deleting posts showing what they’ve stolen.  ARCHIVE THEM WITH THE INTERNET WAYBACK MACHINE, AND THEIR BLOGS AND POSTS CAN STILL BE ACCESSED AFTER THEY DELETE THEM.  Here’s how to do it!  And if I missed any in this list, feel free to add them!

Don’t let these spoiled little brats continue to make life difficult for people who actually work for a living.  There’s a huge difference between being forced to steal in order to live due to abject poverty, and being an entitled little brat that steals designer bags and other luxury items that aren’t necessary for survival.  They pretend to be the former, but we all know they’re the latter.  Nobody needs hundreds of dollars worth of expensive cosmetics and designer bags to survive.
