Selina honey, I understand things with Bruce aren't ideal, but I don't think rebounding on another bat is gonna help.
No spoilers, just themes.
With the finale out now I think a central theme that I've recognized and really adore is "all of these characters are more complex than an audience would appreciate." They are all being squished into a child-friendly set of archetypes, be that by Caine, Jax, or metatextually, the fandom. Caine doesn't want them complaining, swearing or having sex, they just have to go on endless, mindless, youtube-monetizable adventures. He's the ringmaster, he puts them in a bright poppy's playtime ass stage and demands for funny to happen. Meanwhile, Jax doesn't want to address the dire reality of their situation and copes by playing along, treating himself and all the characters as flat archetypes with no internality, so that the elephants in the room can safely be ignored. The fandom, meanwhile, is quietly guilty of all the same things. "Why isn't my favorite character acting in accordance with my headcanon? Which characters are flatly evil so we can hate them? Will they achieve my perfect happy ending? Because if not I'll be mad about it."
It doesn't work. Because they're more complex than that. They're people, they need more, they have emotions and traumas and wants and needs. Ragatha isn't always cheerful, she's not just the mom friend, and she's not some manipulator either. She's a person, trying her best, and very often failing. Pomni isn't always anxious, she's a natural leader and she wants the best for everyone, but she's not perfect either. She's a person, trying her best, and very often failing. And Jax isn't just a villain, he's a very complicated ball of traumas whose consistent first instinct is to push everyone away, hurting others so that he won't get hurt himself. He's a person, trying his best, and very often failing. She might even be a girl. Zooble isn't just a grump, Gangle isn't just a wimp, Kinger isn't just crazy. They're humans. And humans aren't always good. They're messy, screwed up, complicated things. They're things that can't be flattened down to archetypes, no matter how much Caine, Jax, or the fandom wants it.
The fandom wanted a bunch of cookie cutter adventures with good guys and bad guys, but what we got is just a bunch of people, stuck together, their traumas rubbing up against eachother until something catches fire and explodes. And I think that's way more interesting. I'm glad the show is that. I understand not everyone feels that way, though. A lot of people wanted something less nuanced. But I don't think the show not matching your expectations is the show's fault. I think people just need to come at it with the right mindset. Meet the story where it's at.
People are always more complicated than an audience wants them to be.
Happy pride month to my favorite lesbians
How do we criticize Israel without slipping into antisemitism?
Easy: Always say "Israeli" and not "Jewish." Israel is as intrinsically linked with Judaism as my ass is with the dark side of Europa.
Israelis will call you antisemitic anyway because that's how emotional blackmail works, but frankly being viewed negatively by a Nazi state is a good thing. The last thing you'd want is for this guy to praise you
The only thing Israel won't call antisemitic is antisemitism.
Sooo this happened on tiktok

There was a discourse over "bring Back bullying" on the internet. If you heard of it, what do you think about it?
Bullying never left, and if you say shit like that you should be made to bite the curb

Our Karma
The way adult fandom people hold indie online creators and cartoons to a much higher standard than their actual local politicians. You could be putting that energy into terrorizing and protesting conservatives at your town hall and actually make a good material impact on the world but instead you're background checking everything the trans woman who made the amazing digital circus has ever said
The point isn't "stop criticizing indie artists" or "defend your favorite show under this post". I don't even watch Digital Circus and no one is above criticism. Literally every indie show is getting torn to shreds on twitter right now and I'm not saying this to defend anyone I don't know. The point is "someone who actually has the power to kill us all and get away with it deserves way more ire and accountability than a cartoonist and I expect grown adults to understand this"
femboyphobic
I dont know the full context of this scene but isnt Bridget here just saying that clothes can reflect the personality and tastes of the one wearing them? Is that not an innocuous and objectively correct statement? You have to be intentionally bad faith to read this as her being malicious or transphobic.
"Femboyphobic" ......
Why does it seem like the far right will persevere through any loss, but the left loses one primary and they're like "we're fucked! We're cooked!"
Well the far right is determined to get a fascist dictatorship. They're not just going to take a loss and go home. They're gonna keep going until you kill them.
The left, meanwhile, has a lot of white people who would do just fine under fascism and so are content to throw in the towel the instant it gets hard. They don't get what they want, and they throw a fit.
White men will be fine whatever the system is, so in a lot of cases on election day they just want to stay home and play video games.
Like I said: People who refuse to vote do so out of laziness and for no other reason.
I genuinely think Mouthwashing fandom is a good example on how real life misogyny is very wired on people brains and influenced how they engage with fictional misogyny.
You have a story about a woman being assaulted and telling a man she trusted but being dismissed because he is friends with the attacker, and people fixate on shipping her with either of those men.
You have a story about how men that downplay their male friends violence, assume neutrality is the safer option, unintentionally help create an environment that's unsafe to vulnerable people, at a risk becoming a victim themselves. And people make it about toxic yaoi.
You have a character kill herself because she didn't want birth the child of her abuser. And people make AUs where she happily keep the baby.
Misogyny isn't just "I hate women", it's also downplaying their trauma, defending those who caused it, and reducing them to mothers or wives against their wishes under this idea of what womanhood is about.
I don't think we can separate fandom misogyny from it's real world influence, not yet.
