Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*

āThis argument came in Googleās Monday (June 8) motion to dismiss copyright infringement litigation filed earlier this year by a group of independent artists, songwriters and producers.
The lawsuit claims that Lyria 3, the AI music model launched by Google in February, was trained on songs ripped from YouTube without compensating artists.ā
āThe case is among dozens that have accused AI companies of illegally training their models on copyrighted sound, text and images in recent years.
In most of these lawsuits ā including ones brought by the major record labels against AI music generators Suno and Udio ā tech companies have argued that the so-called fair use principle of copyright law allows them to create transformative works without licensing the training data.ā
Instead of making a fair use argument, Google is saying āthey actually do have a license to train AI with the songs uploaded to YouTube by these indie artists.ā
Google says thereās no evidence for Google using their specific works, but also that they have the right to use
the motion cites a clause in YouTubeās terms of service that states, āBy providing content to the service, you grant to YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to use that content (including to reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works, display and perform it) in connection with the service and YouTubeās (and its successorsā and affiliatesā) business.ā
āif Googleās argument is accepted by the court, the company would be legally permitted to train AI models on and otherwise utilize that content for āderivative works.ā However,
the situation might be different for music distributed through YouTube pursuant to licensing agreements with labels and publishers.ā
Music usually has licensing that protects them from copyright issues
