tony stark gaining nebula’s trust, playing games in space with her, working with her, being completely open with her, giving her space to grow as a person and her developing genuine trust with someone, an actual friendship, an unbreakable bond that led her the rest of the movie, tony did that.

he gave her last piece of food they had, completely unselfish act, and her giving it back because he needed it more, tony did that.

nebula opening up to the team, becoming trustworthy and equal, not falling back into her old ways, never trusting or falling under thanos’ abusive influence and desire to make him proud, tony did that.

after years of physical and mental abuse beyond imaginable, he was the person that made her trust someone beside gamora. he led her to believe humans can be worthy companions, friends, family. by playing silly games while stranded in space he showed her she is much more than a weapon and that others can see that.

That whole scene was genuinely so beautiful and terrific and shows the kind of compassionate, empathetic, empowering person Tony is. Especially when Tony tells Nebula, “you won,” after their little game and the way her face slackens in shock because she’s never heard those words directed at her before, and never without horrific consequences. After all, every time she lost, she lost a literal part of herself when Thanos took it away. So that. That was powerful.

Okay, but imagine that in the future, the MCU Avengers do go multiverse and need to “borrow” Steve and Tony from some other ‘verse to fight the Big Giant Threat, so they pull them from 616, and MCU Avengers are like, “Steve, Tony, thank God you’re here!’ and Steve is like…”Tony?  What do you mean?  Stark’s our benefactor, sure, but his bodyguard is Iron Man,” and meanwhile poor 616 Tony is just like wildly waving his hands in a shushing motion.
