DD15HW1 Find Media

The first picture I found was someone putting in the last piece of the puzzle. That is what we are doing today, with our final project; completing that last piece of the puzzle (this class).

The second picture I found was business people running and finishing across a finish line. I liked this picture because it showed people in business attire completing what seems to be an exhausting race. The business attire ties well into this class since it is Business Writing, and finishing the race is like finishing this class.

The third picture I found was a ladder of success picture. I like this one because at the beginning of this course, I saw all the assignments and due dates and I thought it would be horrible. That was like being at the bottom of the ladder. However, little by little, after more homework were being done, the class started passing by and success and completion were on its way.

The final picture I found is a picture of roadsigns. Each sign has something negative on it, and then one sign has the word success on it. I liked this because I felt that it fi with out class in the way that this class was very challenging, and you can either choose to go down the path of giving up, or you can choose to complete this course.

DD14HW7 Reformat Tumblr

The first layout I tried was with the white background, and change the fonts to green and purple and then changed the picture to a circle shape I didn’t like it at all because it hurt my eyes. We spend so much time on our tumblr that the white would give me a headache.

The second layout I tried was a very girly pallets one, with a grid way of posting the posts. I liked it, the colors were cute and the background was darker, however I did not like the grid layout of the posts. I like focusing on one post at a time so this layout would not work, but the colors were ok.

The layout I am going with for my final submission is my original layout. I like the black background, and the single post in a column layout for the posts. These both make it easier to read, at least for me. I also like the colors, and I think it is very clean and easy to navigate while also showing a few things about me like a picture of myself and a couple of my favorite colors that weren’t too bright. Usually my gut instinct is right and here that was the case!

Today we have almost completed our project 2 draft. I continued editing the body and front matter. We couldn’t find cases 3 and 4, therefore we used the cases 3 and 4 from the TC book to do our discussions.

DD11HW5 Learning Reflection

Today we had to turn in the final draft. As I have said before, this group project has been extremely difficult. Usually when I have a group project assigned in on of my classes, I get happy because it is less work. However, I feel like this group project is more work than the individual Project#1. I only say this because although my team is great , it is very difficult to find a time that works for all of us for all of us to do the project. For example, we never know which part we should be working on next because since we all have different schedules it will be hours before hearing from anyone. When I was doing my peer review of the annotated bibliography, the synthesized research, and the front matter, I think our project is going pretty well from what I concluded. However, there were definitely some common errors made, and we definitely need to beef up our reports like Professor Hill always says. Going in depth would not hurt us at all on some topics.

DD10HW8 Learning Reflection

Today we are continuing to work on our project #2 draft. Gratefully, Professor Hill extended our project, so we have more time to work on it and talk with our group about it. Unfortunately, our group communication is a little shaky. For one, it is an online class, so that is difficult in itself, and 2, each person is not only a student but a part time worker (at least) as well. We all have different work schedules, and while some people are working others are not. This has made it difficult since the emails we send to each other are very intense and fast at some parts of the day, and then other parts it takes hours for a response. Because of this, it is also hard to know what each of us need to do for the project since there is such a big time difference between responses. This week in Chapter 10 we learned about teamwork, which I believe perfectly ties into this whole project. Like the book said, the best way to achieve success and to make this a successful project and to get a good grade is if we have strong communication. That is one thing we will definitely have to work on going forwards, but I think so far our project isn’t half bad,

Topic 20: Literally (Metaphors/Analogies)

I am very guilty of using the world literally in a lot of my work. It might be because I am from a small laid back beach town in California, or am around too many Valley Girls at U of A, but I literally use literally a lot and sometimes it comes off in my writing. It is never good to use metaphors or analogies in your writing, especially with research papers or professional documents, and whenever you say literally, it could be seen as an exaggeration.

DD10HW2 Analyze Ethical Situations

Since our group is doing our project on business with Japan, is its very important that we know the customary Japan etiquette. It is actually very interesting. One thing to be noted is whenever the Japanese of business meetings, whether with other Japanese companies or companies from around the world, they always exchange gifts. In the end, you could have the best business idea but if you don’t follow/learn their etiquette it could potentially ruin a business deal. In my future profession, I want to be a financial advisor. Even though I want to do financial advising in the United States only, sometimes there could be clients who move around the world and still want to do business with you. Or clients who travel a lot, it is important to stay professional no matter what. Stock broking/wealth management has a bad rep sometimes because of the reputation of wall street and movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street. Dealing with money and other people’s money is very tricky, because the goal is to not screw over your client, which in turn screws over yourself. Also, it is not good to screw over your client and then benefit yourself, so the goal is to benefit both parties, and that takes a lot of carols to decide what is wrong and what is right to do.

Today we just worked more on our project and got it more squared away. We did the pro tips page, and then we also added a bunch of images to the images page, both on google docs. Today we learned about technical descriptions (chapter 20) and instructions (chapter 21) these are both key in international business, because most of the time business is done through online or the phone, so instructions and memos have to be clean and understandable.

Topic 17: Could/Would/Should of

A lot of people including myself make this mistake. Although it is informal, it is incorrect to say should of, could of, or would of.

The correct way to say these are would have, should have, and could have.

Topic 18: My/Myself/and I

When referring to yourself and someone else, put their name first in the sentence. Choose “me” or “I” by removing their name and seeing which sounds right. For example, with the sentence “John and I are off to the circus”, you wouldn’t say “me is off to the circus” if it was just you; you’d say “I am off to the circus”. Therefore when talking about going with someone else, you say “John and I”. You only use “myself” if you’ve already used “I”, making you the subject of the sentence.

Corroborating sources: Japanese companies and business books.

This article is a good source because it talks about the country Japan which we are doing our project on. It mentions how Japan has a good, old economy and it has 8 of the top 10 oldest businesses in the world. It also goes into more depth on how Japan has a good economy that supports this, so it will be important to use this as background information for Japan for our report.
