These Bionicles Do Not Exist: II
Made with Looking Glass AI. I showed it a bunch of headshots of Bionicle characters wearing various Kanohi (and for some runs, also pics of Skakdi and Barraki heads)—these were the results that I liked and kept. Or for the ones in that 10th image, “liked” and kept, lol
Looking Glass AI v1.5 (and creator’s twitter and tumblr)
Album with all outputs as individual 512x512 pixel images
Album of all input images
I tried to generate a wider variety of outputs this round, by experimenting with different settings and using different subsets and extensions of the inputs. Overall, there was a tradeoff in variety of outputs vs. output image quality (realism, crispness, etc.)
For example, including Skakdi, Barraki, and Toa Inika headshots as inputs tended to make for messier outputs—the AI doesn’t seem to think they “look like” the Mata/Metru-era Kanohi, and doesn’t seem to Learn them as readily—but also seemed to give some results more diversity!
The results were affected similarly when I went out of my way to include more images of masks in rare/unusual/custom colors even when I only had grainy/off-angle photos of those masks
Which brings me to this last bit:
Help me generate better Masks by sending me Kanohi photos, please!
It’s very much encouraged to just send me pics, no need to check anything in advance (I’ll sort through anything sent!), but for reference:
visual list of Kanohi I need better/usable pics of (updated continually, but not at all exhaustive, especially for Kanohi in rare/custom colors)
google drive album of collected input images (updated continually, and will remain Public for other people to use in their AI projects!)
Basically, there are a lot of masks for which I haven’t been able to find “nice” (in-focus, direct head-on photo, etc.) images of Matoran/Toa/Turaga heads wearing the masks to use as inputs for the AI
For some, I’m provisionally using the best of a few options that aren’t quite right (at an angle; grainy or out of focus; etc.) This is especially the case for white Kanohi—a lot of photos of them are overexposed and on white backgrounds—but also applies to many other masks. For many Kanohi, I don’t have a usable image at all, especially for Kanohi in rare (or custom!!) colors
The higher-quality and higher-variety inputs I have to show the AI, the higher-quality and higher-variety outputs it can generate. More colors, more diverse shapes and visual textures, cleaner outputs, etc.
So, this is a standing plea: can you send me nice head-on photos of masks being worn by Matoran/Toa/Turaga heads? Either happening to know of a good photo somewhere online, or being willing to take such a photo yourself?
Any such photos will be added to the public google drive folder, and the photographer will be credited in the folder’s Credits document
(Thank you for reading and/or sharing!)
