Very much the movie of all time. Fantastic, heart-wrenching storytelling. The spectacle of everything is gorgeous. The sound design is very Christopher Nolan, yes, but itās absolutely impactful.
I like the twist that humanityās destiny is not just to move beyond the solar system, not just to inhabit the stars, but to ascend beyond the confines of physical reality and inhabit something greater.
Gonna spoil it but this movie is 12 years old so whatever:
The use of a concerned father on the frontier of human advancement who is trying to look after and guide his daughter from afar as a metaphor for what that ascendant version of humanity is allowing him to do, the universe guiding him to guide her, and the realization that he has, that thatās what is happening as he completes the circuit is probably the coolest fucking instance of mind-bendy sci-fi storytelling Iāve ever seen.
The thing is nobody at pride is evaluating you to determine if youāre queer enough to be there because theyāre too busy thinking āitās so hot outā and āwhy is this lemonade 12 dollars?ā
I found your music through your song "Therianthropy", then found out I have already been following you on tumblr since like 2015! Small world! Anyway, Iām wondering if you yourself are a therian or ever considered yourself one?

Second,
Iāve been a furry for the majority of my life at this point, and i havenāt changed my fursona because i feel an immense amount of symbolic significance with jackals. Thereās a lot of things about them i relate to that i feel constantly validates my choice to represent myself that way. Looking back I donāt know how much of a choice it was or if it was just something that I arrived at. If samsara is real i wouldnāt doubt itās what I am either in my next life, or was in the one i had before this.
I donāt consider myself a Therian because from what I have gotten from the community, it represents a somewhat different kind of connection and experience than what I have, and much of the language of the community is something I donāt particularly resonate with.
Though, if there were other specific terms for the type of spiritualist-naturalist-furry I was and a way to distinguish it, I probably wouldnāt use that term either. Hereās why:
I think the furry community is an expansive and wonderfully subversive scene with one of the most simple common interests of any fandom: affinity with animals, esp stylized cartoon animals. The thing that makes it such a cool community is the fact that there are a zillion different ways to arrive at that community, a zillion differeny ways you can have participation or connection to it, and across these several sub-communities you can still make friends and feel like youāre a part of the same common thing.
People can even give different weight to the different reasons their furry self is significant to them, but the commonality is the strong significance. It is close to a spiritual thing for most furries, people just give it different vocab. We can relate to each other and feel like weāre part of a group with very little.
I like relating to so many people like that. I donāt want to distinguish myself as being somehow deeper, more spiritual, more connected, more attuned, more animalistic, etc etc, than other furries. I donāt want to create an in-group out-group dichotomy in my head like that. I feel a little put off when I see others trying to exceptionalize their in-group by saying no, their connection is more spiritual, more "real" than others.
I have a strong aversion to things that look like organized religion and organized spiritual systems overlayed onto real life. Theyāre very fun to think of fictionally and worldbuilding-wise, sure, but when it comes to my own spiritual beliefs, i do not like feeling like i need to declare my assimilation to a belief system when answering questions like this. I have bad experiences with that dynamic and and just principally donāt like to incorporate things like that into my outward identity. People can find whatever communities they want that make them happy and whatever spiritual language speaks to them and gives them the will to live, to grow, to heal, to be better. And it may look different to the way your own community talks about it.
Spiritually, I tend to operate more individually more than I need to follow a pack. Thatās kind of just what having a soul shaped like a jackal looks like.

P.S. The song is about leaving people behind and accepting some peopleās opinions of you will change into something monstrous as you do. "Therian" did not have as widespread a use at that time. "Otherkin" was the dominant term back then.

Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didnāt *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their āMurica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. Heās over here asking when weāre going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who werenāt helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jacksonās record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.

He was what Iād been searching for.ā In another version of the story, Clemons says āHe looked at me, and I looked at him, and we fell in love.ā

We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!
