“Your mom gave me even more bridal magazines when I saw her earlier,” Elle held out the offending articles as she took a seat next to him on the couch. “She’s desperate to know when we’re going to set a date. I almost think Ella’s more invested in us getting married than we are.” It wasn’t exactly true. Elle wanted nothing more than to finally get married, but Kiran’s deployment and then his injury had meant that they hadn’t really gotten around to planning as much as she would’ve liked. “I mean my mom’s just as bad. She wants to come and visit soon - says we can start looking at venues,” Elle explained, looking up at Kiran from where she was resting her head on his shoulder.

Eddie turned and smiled at the comment though it didn’t reach his eyes.  “I have heard of that many times.  Is she still a puppy?”

“Very much so. She’s only twelve weeks old. Absolutely adorable, but we’re still finding our feet.”

“I’m with you there. She’s only a baby. She’s just been taken away from her mother - how can I expect her to sleep in a cold crate? She’s much better curled up between Kiran and I.”

“oh, believe me.  almost every day my cat, pepper, keeps me up late and every night i wanna scream.  then i wake up the next morning and she’s all cute and curled up on the pillow next to me and it’s like damn how can you be mad at that face?” 

“That’s cute though - makes it worthwhile. I feel like Winnie’s a little more considerate. She seems to calm down the minute that she gets into our bed. Although she doesn’t go for a pillow; she likes to be between Kiran and I.”

“I don’t think anything makes you immune, anything at all,” she laughed, thinking of both doe eyed little kids and her own yellow lab who had won her over immediately. “S’she doin’ the right thing and makin’ sure to hog all of the space? S’the only way mine sleeps.”

“I feel like you’re probably right there. That little face could solve all the world’s problems,” Elle admitted with a laugh. “Well I mean she’s only small right now, so it’s not so bad. She’s definitely claimed her space between Kiran and I though. How old is yours?”

“Wait seriously?” More shocked about the pup having not touched her shoes than anything, Amelia found her mind traveling into her desires of wanting a puppy. “I’m like totally gonna have to talk to Ethan about this. I would like so totally love to have a dog.” for now, she didn’t even want to consider thinking about sharing her dog with anyone besides Ethan given the awkward altercation she’d had with her other roommate not too long ago.

“I mean I wish I can help you with picking the right puppy, but honestly it’s Kiran you need for that. He just surprised me with Winnie waiting out on our porch,” Elle explained, shrugging her shoulders. “I’ve always wanted a dog, but I didn’t realise how much I was missing out on until we got her.”

“God, and this is why I’m never gonna have kids.” Harry grinned, shaking out her curls. “But I think I’d be a great dog mom. Gotta figure out my own shit before I try and take care of another life but… sleeping with a dog in my bed sounds fantastic, really.”

“I mean I’d like to say it’s not that bad, but I have absolutely no clue. The kids I have are the 30 that I teach - and I only get to keep them for a year,” she shrugged, giving a small laugh. “I can’t deny that it’s pretty great. If you ever want to dog-sit, I’m sure we can arrange that sometime.”

“Yeah, I know how’s that. Not that I ever tried to keep Cap and the cats away from the bed, anyway.” Ace shrugged as he laughed. “Just let them, they do no harm. Now, don’t start worrying about the babies part yet, Elle, it’s… sad.” He joked. 

“I feel like it would be futile to even bother trying to stop it, and kind of mean too,” Elle agreed, her smile growing. “Hey, you got that much of a problem with becoming Uncle Ace?.. I mean I don’t think you have anything to worry about just yet though.”

Try having to say no to this,” Sol concurs, holding out the aged shih tzu he had been carrying in his arms away from his chest, as though goofy eyes and greying ears was the cutest thing anyone ever did see. Kind of was, if you asked him. As if on cue, Solo wagged his tail while Sol reeled him back in so he didn’t look like he was recreating the Pride Rock scene from the original Lion King in the street. 

“This guy rules the roost, he has my heart broken. What’s your dog called?” 

Elle couldn’t help but smile at the scene in front of her. She’d never met a dog-owner who didn’t want to gush about their pet, and she supposed that she was quickly becoming one of those. “He’s gorgeous. What his name,” she asked, reaching out to pet him. “She’s called Winnie. She’s twelve weeks old.”

“Oh my god…that would be so cute to see,” Taylor cooed. “Bo Duke did the same thing when he was a puppy, and I tried to resist him so hard, but once he gives me the puppy dog eyes…” she laughed and shook her head just thinking about it. “I was putty in his paws. And he still does it whenever he wanted to sleep on my bed.”

“Oh Taylor she’s so cute, honestly. It’s like having the most gorgeous snoozing hot water bottle,” Elle explained, smiling at the thought. “I don’t doubt that at all. Winnie’s even got Kiran under her paw - clearly not even the Marine is immune from the charm of a puppy.” She was sure Winnie would miss him when he eventually deployed again, but she didn’t want to dwell on that thought. “You should bring Bo over for a playdate when she’s a little bigger. Imagine them together.”

“It’s really hard to be honest.” Jolene remembered fondly of trying to wean her own kids from sleeping in her and Ivan’s bed as they were growing up. “It gets easier when there are more and more and you can’t fit all five of you in bed,” she joked. “How old is the puppy?”

“I feel like I’d be the ultimate pushover. I need you to teach me your ways before I even consider having children.” Despite what she said, Elle was able to keep control of a classroom - but she imagined her own children to be a whole different ball game. “She’s twelve weeks old. So pretty tiny still.”

I remember when I first rescued Kida I thought that any time she started whining that I was doing something wrong, that I wasn’t cut out to be a dog parents because I didn’t know how to make it stop unless it was with hugs and treats. I’ve had her for a year now and she’s the most pampered dog to the point that half my living room is her own personal penthouse.”

“I mean it sounds like she has a pretty wonderful life, though. If she’s happy and healthy then that’s the main thing, right?” Elle assured her. “I’m trying not to give in too much, but I can’t resist her. Think I’ll leave the training to Kiran.”

“And that’s exactly why I ain’t ever goin’ to get a dog. I wouldn’t be able to resist anythin’ that they do and they’d basically have me ‘round their finger the moment it was in my posession. Not that Blossom doesn’t do that already but she’s a ferret so it’s easier to ignore. As… mean as that sounds.”

“Not at all? I mean I feel like I’m going to need more training than she is. I just can’t resist her,” Elle shrugged. “A ferret? I can’t say I know anything about ferrets. Less needy, I’m guessing?”

To say Austin was excited that Elle and Kiran had gotten a puppy. Even more because he knew Kiran was considered a job at the kennel but he wasn’t about to be the one to break that news to Elle. “Well I mean if you really want to break that habit I might be able to teach Kiran a thing or two to get that to stop. If you really want to of course.” Austin said with a knowing grin. “Just say the word and I’ll make it happen.”

“Hey, I’m not letting either of you make my baby girl sleep in a crate. She’s staying in the bed,” Elle insisted, although she was semi-joking. “You can teach him to train her to do anything else though, so long as you treat her nicely.” It wasn’t like she had any doubts that he would ever treat any dog with anything other than love. “Did you help him pick her out? Gave me the surprise of my life.”

“Its a struggle,” Hannah confessed with a chuckle. “I mean Tanner and I have been fighting Tommy on getting him back in his own bed. You are really in for it hunny. They are hard to resist in all their forms. I see having a puppy is going well though.”

“I don’t know how you do it, Han. Although do you even have space in your bed for your whole clan?... How do you manage to get time alone?” Elle questioned, raising an eyebrow. “Oh it’s been great - she’s actually quite well behaved. Perhaps you should bring the kids over to meet her sometime?”

“I thought being a teacher would make me immune to puppy-dog eyes, but it turns out it’s very hard to say no to a whining golden retriever - and so she sleeps on our bed now... I don’t know how parents do it.” @frostfordstart​
