They kept asking me, ‘What does the poem mean? What does the poem mean?’ And it was frustrating me because poems don’t mean. They suggest. They enact. They provoke.

I think I’ve fallen platonically in love with my best friend. It’s such a strange and good feeling to love someone in such a mutual relationship but not get jealous or bitter about it. Every time she talks about something that makes her happy, I’m happy too. She isn’t perfect and neither am I and we sometimes argue but ultimately she always knows what to say to comfort me. I’m always so proud of her, and I never want to compare myself to her or devalue her in any way. and as gay as I am, I don’t feel the need to have romantic feelings for her. We are living together next year, and I think it’ll be good.
The love expressed between women is particular and powerful because we have had to love in order to live; love has been our survival.

A Head
why do we have a head
because we need to kiss
I know no one who has embraced a love ethic whose life has not become joyous and more fulfilling. The widespread assumption that ethical behaviour takes the fun out of life is false. In actuality, living ethically ensures that relationships in our lives, including encounters with strangers, nurture our spiritual growth. Behaving unethically, with no thought to the consequences of our actions, is a bit like eating tons of junk food. While it may taste good, in the end the body is never really adequately nourished and remains in a constant state of lack and longing. Our souls feel this lack when we act unethically, behaving in ways that diminish our spirits and dehumanise others.
bell hooks, All About Love: New Visions
“Attention: deep listening. People are dying in spirit for lack of it. In academic culture, most listening is critical listening. We tend to pay attention only long enough to develop a counterargument; we critique the student’s or the colleague’s ideas; we mentally grade and pigeonhole each other. In society at large, people often listen with an agenda, to sell or petition or seduce. Seldom is there a deep, open-hearted nonjudgmental reception of the other. And so we all talk louder and more stridently and with a terrible desperation. By contrast, if someone truly listens to me, my spirit begins to expand.”

My life is a mess but at least I’ve never owned a pair of huaraches
i haven’t seen anyone talking about this on tumblr so I’m making a post about it.
a few days ago this 18 year old guy named julien clement wore a shirt that says “IF YOU ARE GAY DON’T APPROACH ME I’LL KILL YOU” in ottawa, the capital of canada, my hometown. he literally wants to murder gay people in cold blood.
julien clement and yan miller have openly stated they feel no remorse for wearing these shirts and have a homophobic gang called ATG which has around 20 members.
as someone who’s been struggling really hard to live openly as queer/bisexual, this terrifies me to my core. i don’t want to be scared for my life when i go to visit my friends and family.
i’m not saying dox them but please spread this around because canadian stuff really never gets much attention on tumblr, and these guys are potentially dangerous!!
police haven’t done anything yet
