Whoo, super long nose tutorial! Iâm sure thereâs heaps I didnât mention in this but this is generally how I approach it - the main thing is to check out references and try and draw different noses, itâll help you create more diverse characters and have fun with it without being afraid of drawing the nose (since itâs genuinely one of my favourite things to draw).

I have no Idea how many people know this but its a life saver
Start off with a crappy scanned/phone taken picture like so
Mess around with the SAI Filters, I usually go color deepen all the way to the left then mess with brightness and contrast until I find a good balance I like, then to top it off with a copied layer on multiply to make the lines darker
Click what I boxed off and the magic has already happened
you now are left with a clean lineart layer that you can color underneath to your liking : 0 Hell you can even color your lines however you want as well for a colored lineart
ok i wasnât going to reblog this first but honestly this is such a life/time saver. you can get a neat lineart in minutes instead of using a hour (or more) on âcopyingâ the lineart digitally. share this as much as you can. especially since itâs on sai which is what most aspiring artists on this site useâŠ

As someone with multiple bilingual friends where English is not the first language, may I present to you a list of actual incidents I have witnessed:
Forgot a word in Spanish, while speaking Spanish to me, but remembered it in English. Became weirdly quiet as they seemed to lose their entire sense of identity.
Used a literal translation of a Russian idiomatic expression while speaking English. He actually does this quite regularly, because he somehow genuinely forgets which idioms belong to which language. It usually takes a minute of everyone staring at him in confused silence before he says ââŠ.AhâŠ.. that must be a Russian one thenâŠ.â
Had to count backwards for something. Could not count backwards in English. Counted backwards in French under her breath until she got to the number she needed, and then translated it into English.
Meant to inform her (French) parents that bread in America is baked with a lot of preservatives. Her brain was still halfway in English Mode so she used the word âprĂ©servatifes.â Ended up shocking her parents with the knowledge that apparently, bread in America is full of condoms.
Defined a slang term for meâŠâŠ. with another slang term. In the same language. Which I do not speak.
Was talking to both me and his mother in English when his mother had to revert to Russian to ask him a question about a word. He said âI donât knowâ and turned to me and asked âIs there an English equivalent for ĐŃĐŒĐžĐ·ĐŒĐ°ŃĐžŃĐ”ŃĐșĐžĐč?â and it took him a solid minute to realize there was no way I would be able to answer that. Meanwhile his mom quietly chuckled behind his back.
Said an expression in English but with Spanish grammar, which turned âHow stressful!â into âWhat stressing!â
Bilingual characters are great but if youâre going to use a linguistic blunder, you have to really understand what they actually blunder over. And itâs usually 10x funnier than âOoops itâs hard to switch back.â
And if thereâs two multilingual people who have overlapping languages: we absolutely will switch languages in the middle of a sentence, sometimes more than once. It just depends on which language has the handier term, or has the right connotation youâre trying to convey. It makes it hell for someone who doesnât know both languages to follow the conversation, especially with words that sound similar but with completely different meanings (ex. embarrassed vs embarazada).
after Iâve been speaking Spanish to a customer at work, I donât so much accidentally talk to the next person in Spanish as trip over my words in English while my brain flounders in this odd linguistic void trying to figure out which way is up
Also if a bilingual person is talking with somebody in a language and somebody else asks them something in another one and they answer quite fast they might do it in the wrong language
And bilingual people donât accidentally âswitchâ to their native language by randomly throwing full sentences in the conversation, what often happens is:
*brain explodes*
If you have no idea what to draw...
its like having all the money you wanted ,but you dont know what to buy. Making this to look at when I get stuck with lame ideas. These are all suggestions from my followers:
Taking a break: Â No option for me but it surely can be good for other overworked peeps
Exploring new art forms: depending on your art style, surrealism would be something Iâve never tried before.
Shape game: Either sketching blindly and connecting the dots or sketching random shapes  and fill them with faces or whatever comes to your mind.
Draw something you never drew before:  âŠa good pictureâŠ
Draw a shark: Â How to draw a shark by Will TerrellÂ
Read books:Â Let your mind to the picture first and then your hand.
Poses:  Action poses - freestyle dancing - fight styles - (dancing people in general)- life drawing - online 3D model
Redoing Artwork: Either your old stuff or from your favorite artists, your way.
Reverse storyboarding: take your fav movie and sketch the the shots after every camera change.
Screencaps: study them, draw them, look at composition
Characters: Let your OCâs do extreme expressions, let them do things (driving, cleaning, running, etc)
Concepts: How people could look like on other planets. Look at Character Design
Planing an art project: A comic in my case, thinking about environments and characters etc.
Drawing upside down: ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
Fanart: Illustrate your favorite book, series,Manga ,etc
Sideblog: Gathering all the references for all your needs
Understood ? Practice dude.

Ok, Iâm glad someone elaborated on this more.
Yes, practice is important. But you gotta know what youâre doing first.
And if you have trouble with something? Ask.
A lot of artists on Tumblr are willing to help out. Just be polite about it, of course.
Then, once you have a grip on what youâre doingâŠ.then you just gotta keep drawing.
And you will make mistakes. As you go, youâll start noticing even more mistakes. This is a GOOD thing. The first step to improvement is noticing somethingâs wrong. The next step is figuring out exactly whatâs wrong. The step after that is figuring out how to fix it. And so on. And if you need help in any of those stages, ask someone! Again, politely. Please donât harass people.
i keep forgetting to update this tumblr blog I may turn my oc blog into an oc doodle blog as well??? And Jus archive this account :0c So yea Iâll do that at some point, so please follow @cursedocs for future doodles, and I have a twitter with the same name for oc shenans and doodles

Some tips on painting from B&W to color
As promised! Using this last painting.
1. Tweak your levels
You do not want your darkest darks to be too low on the value scale: you will be colorizing shadows, and likely glazing over them to darken them. To avoid a muddy mess, make sure that the darkest darks on your HSV/HSB (hue-saturation-value) color sliders are at MOST a 9. Photoshop has a Levels feature that lets you do that quickly.
2. Start with a colored base
Sometimes I use a gradient map (which can color lights/mid values/shadows at once), but the idea is the same â you want to color on top of a picture that has NO grey in it. Pick a neutral color thatâs closest to your shadows â for example, here I wanted to have a warmer skintone, so I made the shadows cool.
3. Glaze CAREFULLY
Here is an example of what not to do â do not pile adjustments layers on top of one another in hopes that some of them will give you a good result. Lower your opacity and learn what layer modes do! Overlay will hit your lights, Multiply will hit your shadows, and Hard Light (my favourite) will show up exactly like a colored light source would.
Slow down. This is kind of like glazing an oil painting. Pull down your saturation and leave the Jersey Shore orange for the last steps of a painting.
4. Turn on hue jitter
Real skin is transluscent and highly reactive to the environment it is in. If you look at any realist painting, you will see glazes and glazes and glazes of color packed into a single square inch of canvas. You can imitate this by playing with your brushâs HUE JITTER setting, which will make the color you pick jump around the color wheel a little. This is especially helpful when glazing shadows.
5. Use neutrals to unify your painting
Greys are great. Greys are AMAZING when you want skin to pop, and this is why the majority of classical portraiture sports a neutral background. I just went over the whole piece and punched a bit of grey-green into the background and shadows to âkillâ the oversaturated color. The painting immediately started to come together.
6. Remember that this is not a coloring book
The great thing about digital painting is that your CANVAS is your palette â and this method allows you to build one. It helps establish major structures so you can focus on color and light, but chances are you will end up repainting large parts of it anyway. Donât be afraid to!
Click me for the brushes used in the tutorial A few peeps were wondering how I drew attacks in my nuzlocke comic, so I made a quick/kinda sloppy tutorial about it! Tbh itâs just me spamming luminosity and overlay layers haha ;yyy Hope this somewhat helps!
