i just really fw the honestly pretty canonical idea that sarek is like. the Vulcan equivalent of uncomfortably (to others) obsessed with his wife and conducts himself with NO appropriate restraint.

The general consensus that Romulans lack the same psychic ability as their Vulcan cousins is wrong. It is suppressed, certainly, but it is an essentially open secret that a bonded pair of Romulans can, over time, develop very powerful, deep psychic bonds that would rival anything Vulcans have.

It is officially forbidden, and according to the Imperial doctrines it does not exist, though any Romulan can see it is true. The Empire denies it because it is something outside of their control, it isn't something they can listen in on. That is part of why the Tal'Shiar rose and cracked down on such a thing, even though their very members experience it. It is not the official line and officially doesn't exist but as in all life some things can never be truly regulated.

Couples sharing such intense bonds don't talk about it, because they know the risks of it being exposed or used as leverage against their partner.
