“So, explain this to me again - exactly what happened?”
“They found a body in the Lombardi club. Related to the Ivanovs, apparently.”
“Okay, not a bad party…Not a bad party at all,” Simone murmured out loud, her eyes rolling over the set up of the indoor penthouse. She’d already checked out the scenes on the rooftop and in the Empire room and she had to give it to the Montgomery clan–they certainly knew how to throw a party. She should’ve thought of 230 Fifth. Another day, another party, she supposed.
“Not bad, but not as good as yours, I imagine,” Elijah replied, approaching from behind. He refrained from adding what he was really thinking, which was: maybe this one won’t end with a dead body. Instead, he continued, “Of course, it’s hard to live up to the Great Lombardis.”
He was here for diplomacy, for the Lombardi family to see that there was no suspicion on his part -- to lead them off track. But with the crowds of people, it was difficult to pick people out, and with the blaring music, it was difficult to hear anyone, even the loud, obnoxious voice of Simone Lombardi. It wasn’t until he stopped looking altogether that he found her.
“Interesting choice of restroom,” he noted, nodding towards the sign that read “MEN” on the door.Â

From his spot beside the man, he kept his eyes on the young girl he was there protecting. Honestly she was the whole reason he was there, if she didn’t ask him he would have stayed at home drinking by himself until his boss needed him for something. “Can’t say I’ve been to many of these.” he muttered taking another drag of his cigarette. “Though this is just what I expected. Cheesy pop songs, half naked girls and expensive booze.”
Elijah shrugged. “I wouldn’t consider tyga to be pop, but I wouldn’t consider him to be good, either.” He paused to follow the other man’s eyes to a young girl, and wondered briefly if he was with her. It seemed improbable. He was too old, and didn’t seem like the type, though Elijah was never one to make quick judgements. Instead of pondering the subject further, he merely replied, “You could always leave. Y’know, go home and get some sleep.” He didn’t add that the man looked like he could use some.
Shannon’s nose crinkled as he spoke, her eyes gazing across the bodies on the dance floor. She wasn’t exactly a frequent visitor to Simone’s little events, she still wasn’t quite sure how she’d received an invitation to this one. At first she’d flat out refused to attend but her father had been convincing, so here she stood. “What a lovely little get together.” She replied, the distaste clear in her voice. “STDs and future fatherless children, I guess everyone takes home something from a Lombari party. I think I might skip those particular parting gifts.”
“Mm,” was all he gave as means of agreement. He was silent for a moment, watching as two girls stumbled out the bathroom with telltale sniffling, and trying to decide what the best course of action would be. He hadn’t yet met with a Lombardi which was, after all, the goal of this mission, so he couldn’t leave yet. But a break was very much desirable. So, facing her once again, Elijah spoke.
“I need a breath of fresh air. There’s a side entrance into the alley off the bathroom. You’re welcome to join me, if you want to.”
Shannon had promised her father she wouldn’t cause any trouble tonight, a promise that was proving rather hard to keep as the D-list reality tv star kept trying to pick her up despite the unimpressed look on her face throughout the entire conversation. Her eye’s were trained on his chin as her fists clenched at the thought of dislodging it. As he turned to order another drink the Ivanov daughter took her chance and fled, dissapearing into the crowd and pushing her way to the other side, her eyes rolling at the show the majority on the floor were putting on. Sighing, she took a sip of her drink as she settled against the wall, her face turning to look at the boy beside her. “Perhaps next time the servers should carry around little platters on condoms instead of the food no one has seemed to touch.” She mused.
“That would be ineffective,” Elijah replied at once with a swift shake of the head. “These people--” he gave a broad sweeping gesture across the dance floor, “--wouldn’t take the time to put them on.” It wasn’t a joke, just a fact. “I imagine that’ll be the case in a few hours, anyway. STDs run rampant.”
With a shrug he put the pack back into his pocket. More for him. “Can’t do my job if I’m drugged up.” He called out, explaining, over the music. Sure there were drugs in his system but they were ones that kept his back pain at bay and not at all like the ones the teens and young adults around them were on. Trae felt like he should introduce himself to the newest boss but kept his mouth shut, after all tonight was supposed to be a night of fun, not politics. “If you are so miserable, why are yeah here?”
Diplomacy was the real answer, the answer Elijah would’ve given if he had known, and trusted, the man. But given that they had only just met, he decided on another: “Thought I’d check out the Lombardi fun for myself. I have to say that I’m not...” Disappointed? That’d be a lie. “Surprised.”
Bringing the cigarette up to his lips he lent against the wall before he bright his lighter up to his lips and lit the so called cancer stick. Being around so many people like this caused a bit of anxiety to well up inside of him but he knew that being here was more important that being at home hiding from the world. Appearance and all that bullshit. “Want one?” He asked the other male holding out his pack of cigarettes to him since it was obvious he wanted to be there as much as Trae did. Â
With the music blaring, Elijah couldn’t hear the other man’s words, but shook his head when he held out the pack of cigarettes. “I’m not one for smoking.” He paused, glancing back over to the orgiastic display before him, before turning fully to the man. “Appreciate the offer, though -- it’s always nice to know that someone here isn’t so drugged up that they can’t offer consolation.”
Upon returning from the bathroom and finding his seat at the bar taken, Elijah settled on standing in the corner, smiling politely at the occasional actress as she walked by, and sipping a whiskey on the rocks. It was a courtesy to attend, but truth be told, he preferred a quiet night at home with his cats to watching fifty people virtual fuck on the dance floor five feet away. He was wondering to himself if the Lombardi’s were capable of throwing a part without a massive orgy when he heard footsteps approach and turned to face them.
