A bunch of french youtubers made a small parody of One Direction at the end of their videos about “honest video clips” (you can see it here x)

so….. niall likes to fidget a lot. as we all know.

and like the thing is, fidgeting reveals and excess of energy. it could mean a lot of things and i’m not gonna decide for niall which one applies to him. People under stress will fidget, people who are nervous will fidget and people who have a natural action of fidgeting will fidget.

the thing not all people will do, is transport that fidgeting onto other people. but niall…..niall DOES SOMETIMES is the thing. he’ll just-

zayn’s just there and niall doesn’t look like he’s thinking about it just like he isn’t when the fidgeting is restricted to his own body

does that mean he perceives zayn as merely an extension of himself ??? another body but a connected soul?

and zayn always lets him. does zayn even notice? does he ever wonder about it? does zayn absorb that restless energy for niall because he knows he can’t do it himself. finds a home for it?!

coming from a fan of one direction that barely got interested in larry not to long ago, but why do many larry fans say that they blame modest for their closeting? I mean, why can't modest just let them date in public?

I wouldn’t say that Modest! is the only party to blame here. Personally, I believe Columbia/Sony created the original plan and platform and left the management of the day-to-day affairs to Modest!. I don’t think anyone expected One Direction to get as big as they did. Modest! was ill prepared to handle a client of that size. I won’t absolve them of their actions, and there is visible personal animosity between the boys and M!M, but it’s likely that Sony was the one who put forth the guidelines for the closet and set it up, but left the minor affairs to M!M.

At the time One Direction was founded, it’s likely that any management company or record label would have gone with a closet. They’re a boyband, and boybands sell with the hysteria of teenage girls. The thought is that they’d rather have 5 straight, attractive, single boys to attract the largest audience. They gave each boy a different look and public persona to reach the widest possible audience and to get fans to deeply connect with one of the five, hence your “Harry girls,” “Niall girls,” etc. etc. It sold, and it sold very well. Still, up until the boys started to break America, it was very much a glass closet situation for Louis and Harry. Breaking into America at the time that they did was different than how it is now. America has had a massive change of public perception of gay marriage and the gay community over the past couple of years. Now, it’s looking like the United States Supreme Court will rule in favor of gay marriage, when it was a state-by-state brutal battle before. It’s different now than it was then, and it was easier to break America with the aid of Taylor Swift, and the cookie cutter ‘boy next door’ image they had for the boys at the time they did so. That’s what it boiled down to - money and managing risk. It would have been riskier to let them be out, and that wasn’t a risk that 1DHQ was willing to take. Not when the revenue stream from Haylor and a loosely defined homophobic American market was so large.

Now, things are different. Many celebrities have come out over the past couple of years, and have been met with widespread public support. Like I said earlier, the US Supreme Court will likely rule in favor of gay marriage very, very soon (they’re drafting the opinion right now) which is HUGE!!! At this point in time, there are fewer risks than there were back then. They’ll be met with widespread public support, and it’d be a huge push for a rebrand into an older audience. Personally, I think it’d be a phenomenal business move, and I think 1DHQ would make a pretty penny off a CO. Back in 2011/2012, it wouldn’t have been as much of a sure thing. That’s what it boils down to, love - the potential for revenue and managing risk.
