Spot: My cat is the only valid member of my family. The roomba is valid too, I guess, but’s it’s on thin ice.
Albert: What did the roomba do?
Spot: Tried to eat my fucking sock
Race, dejectedly: What about me
Spot: You actually ate my fucking sock
Katherine: Your rooms a mess
Jack: You should see my life
hi i’m here to tell you that santa fe is about feeling not only trapped, but blockaded from what life should be, and isn’t, because of obstacles and disadvantages unfairly thrown jack’s way despite all jack has been through and worked for.
i’m here to tell you that ‘santa fe’, this idea that jack has of what life could be, represents equality. it represents what jack cannot have, what he is barred from because of a system of poverty and racism and socioeconomic stress that he is unable to change for himself, what jack would give anything for, would turn his back on his brothers for. it is a life or death need.
and i’m here to tell you this relates right into what is happening right now, and you can literally fuck off if you don’t think so.
people of color are fighting for their right to live despite all they have done for this country, despite this country being built on their backs, on their work, and on their oftentimes poverty.
equality exists. it is a real tangible thing for privileged people. it’s off somewhere in the distance, seemingly just a train ride away…
until something else happens again and we are reminded. we are reminded that it is still a dream. that we are still trapped where there isn’t a real future, even when some of us are so young, that we have broken our backs for centuries for others’ sakes. that people of color are still denied their metaphorical pay by, yes, fat old men.
but we are nothing without that dream. that dream drives us, it has fueled our every move, our every protest, our every truth spoken as loud as we can. that dream holds our freedom, our fresh air without fear of tear gas, and no more laughing in our face of those trying to make us believe it can’t be real.
and we are nothing if we do not stand together, if we do not realize that this is not a fight to be won on one’s own. we do not step over each other for just one person to achieve a small sliver of that equality. no. we stand together- we are changing the whole game, and the world knows.
santa fe is a real place, just like equality is a real goal. and someday, we will make that train together.

Hey, I know most people who read my stuff on Ao3 don’t follow me on here, but I just wanted to let you guys know that “You’ve Got Mail!” is NOT abandoned, my real life is just in a super busy place right now and I need to focus.
I got cast in one of my all-time favorite musicals, Into the Woods (!!!!!), and so that is taking everything right now.
I will finish the story, but I won’t be back for a few months.

The other day I had a really good idea for a story:
A high school Shakespeare club angrily splits into two groups when they can’t agree on the correct interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. One group thinks it’s a cautionary tale about the stupidity of youth and shallow lust; the other group think it’s a beautiful tragedy about poisonous hatred conquered by love. Reconciliation seems impossible-
-then a person from one group falls in love with a person from the other
#it would be better if somehow EVERY OTHER SHAKESPEARE WAS HAPPENING AT ONCE#like you got a benedict and beatice b-story#and then somebody see’s their dad’s ghost#and there’s cross-dressing#and three upperclassmen tell macbeth he will be drama club president
oh my god I need this nobody dies but SEVEN PEOPLE ARE EXPELLED
Exit stage left, pursued by the school mascot
Hey I’m not saying Hallmark movie au but I am saying Jack running a little B&B farm/ranch type of thing and Davey is a Big City Business Man who has to come for a work retreat but uh-oh the owner of this dusty, dirty little ranch he expected to hate is nice and funny and has strange names for all his cows and horses and is the one who cooks them breakfast and dinner every night and sings while he does it and finds Davey outside after not being able to sleep one night and waxes poetic about the stars and moon and maybe Davey is realizing that there’s more to life than being a successful Big City Business Man and the more is Jack and his strangely philosophical views on happiness and simplicity and family
Maybe the real Santa Fe is the friends we made along the way...
I am always soft for Davey Jacobs
Today sure is a good day to love and appreciate Davey Jacobs
