molly's audition combo dump just reminded me that studios need to start putting turn sequences back in their group choreo because the kids kill them and they add such a fun element to the dances

Turns and acro ARE also dance!! Movement only choreo is dance, however it only allows one element to be included. Bring back groups with tricks and turns, with movement based sections! It allows so many different kids time for their speciality to show and allows increased difficulty (having it all from tricks, to turns, to technique, to musicality)!

🚨BREAKING: my sources at the las vegas staples have informed me that our mini female best dancer winner is savannah kristich!!!

Now that nattys season has begun, here are a few reminders:

- These are all kids so be kind!

- It’s not a good look for us full grown adults to be raging about how kids we don’t even know performed

- don’t post anything negative on social media, most dancers are on TikTok and instagram (& their parent could be here on tumblr) and can see it

- Nationals is super scary, so mistakes happen, we’re all human

- these kids have a ton of pressure on them already, so be mindful of what you post (even if ur trying to be nice, saying something like “if you don’t win im quitting” could make someone feel pressured)

- if you think someone else should’ve won, that’s fine but you really don’t need to say it publicly

- so much more than just the dance offs are considered in nationals so just because you think some people should’ve placed higher in the dance offs, doesn’t mean there’s some sort of bias

- you can lift someone up without tearing someone else down

- everyone has worked the butts off the entire season for this so no matter who wins, they truly deserve it

- be ready for the crazy dance mom posts hehe

i just think that if you are in any artistic sphere in this day and age, and you have certain views, then you’re going against so many creatives and are actively campaigning against their livelihoods and rights and respect that has taken way too long to have been given in the first place. i took a dance history course in uni, and learning about the cultural roots of american dance styles and trends since the 1800s was extremely eye opening to me in ways that challenged the ideals that i and my classmates were raised on with our commonly studio-centered and ballet focused training. especially now when so much is being done to undermine the arts, it is important to know where people are standing on the matter and ultimately whether they respect their creatives or not. i think the ballet world as a whole still has a far way to go, but it can’t be excused in the year 2025

unpopular opinion but I don’t give a fuck if a choreographer always has the same dancer as the lead or in the front and centre spot. If that’s who they think executes the choreography the best every time, then they should be the lead every time. I think recreational dance is the space for everyone to have a turn at being the star. But at this level of competitive dance? I don’t care if a choreographer wants to rely who they think is their strongest dancer to bring their vision to life they way they want.
