We all remember what Emily was like when she first joined right? I imagine that she'd want to get the know the team more and when you have a young genius as a coworker, wouldn't you want to hang out with them to?
And Spencer's face when she asks him to hang out. He rarely gets asked that when he does get asked by someone on the team most of the time it involves drinks.
But you see, Emily is a really bad influence. The more he hangs out with her, the bitchyer he becomes. They'll go get coffee together on their day off and they'll just people watch. "Did you see the shoes they were wearing" "hideous. Blush is so not her color."
Hanging out with Emily is going to her house randomly because he feels alone and no matter what time he comes over she's always available. It's takeout and a sleepover. Falling asleep braiding her hair and she's sitting on the floor petting Sergio. It's playing video games and watching chick flicks not because he likes chick flicks, not because he's good at video games, but because it doesn't matter what they're doing together he knows it's going to be fun either way.
I think she gave him the shades that he has. "Now Morgan isn't the only one with badass shades ;)" they give each other small gifts randomly it's like "i don't wear jewelry." "You don't have to wear it-" "no I'm gonna wear it are you kidding me? Shut up."
Spencer finds her apartment so comforting it's a home away from home. He likes the carpet and the view and how it's not modern. The colors are warm. They hit the town and go to the gay bars. They find it hilarious when they walk around DC people think they're a couple. "Oh my god she really thought you were my husband" "i know right?!" "I can't. she thought i liked dick"
She's so blunt and inappropriate. They're the epitome of "so i was sitting there, barbeque sauce on my titties, and-". She's so happy that he's this totally different person while he's not at work. They go shopping together and she pushes for him to be more bold, to go out his comfort zone. She really helps him with his feminity. Something he's always struggled with from his dad telling him to be more normal and being bullied as a kid. She'll do some makeup on him "c'mon Reid. If you don't try it, how will you know you don't like it?" While she blasts rock songs and they dance around and trash the place.
For everyone else on the team, it took them awhile to get invited to Reid's. Emily however? She is invited so quickly. She thinks his place is weird but she's not surprised. They complain about their crushes together.
Feeling the cold metal against his fingers as he held the coin in pocket, Reid decided, this was it, the best time.
"Do you know that 16.5% of the American population has some sort of addiction?" Reid blurted out, breaking the silence of the jet. The team, was on the way back from Alaska, so they had plenty of time to kill, and plenty of time to talk. It was an even better moment to have this conversation as even Garcia was there.
"No Reid, can't say I did know that." Morgan responded, looking up from his iPod, searching for a good song to put on next.
"How many people is that honey? Roughly anyway." Garcia asked, quickly correcting herself on the open question, not really in the mood for a long winded response.
"About 20 million."
"Wow, that's quite a lot." Hotch chimed in.
"Well I know I don't have an addiction." Rossi smiled, leaning back into his chair. "Unless you count my love of old wines, but I don't consider myself an alcoholic."
"Closest thing I will ever come to an addiction would be Cheetos, but even I don't love them that much." JJ joked.
"I'll agree with Rossi, I like a good wine, but I'm not an alcoholic by any means." Emily agreed, then taking on a serious look, grasping her girlfriend's hand. "But JJ, we need to talk about the amount of Cheetos we have in the cupboard." She joked.
"Oh shut up." JJ laughed, swatting Emily's hand away.
"I don't think I've ever had an addiction either." Hotch said.
"Me either." Morgan added. "What about you, baby girl?"
"Only my love for you all." Garcia cooed.
"We love you too, Penny." Emily smiled.
"Then that leaves you, pretty boy." Morgan stated, directing their attention to his boyfriend.
As if on cue, everyone on the plane turned to face the youngest agent.
"Well-" Reid started, preparing himself for a very difficult conversation, only to be cut off by Emily.
"Let me guess, coffee?" She laughed.
"Ha ha, very funny, I don't drink that much coffee. Actually-"
"Uh, yes you do." Rossi interrupted.
"Spence, we've been on the plane for an hour and you're on your fifth cup." JJ laughed.
"I've had four." Reid weakly defended.
"Is that supposed to be reassuring, love?" Morgan teased.
"Face it honey bun, you have an addiction." Garcia smiled, ruffling his hair.
"Well it's better than my old one." Reid rushed out, finally getting to what his fact was leading up to.
With one sentence, the jet went silent.
"Reid, what other addiction?" Emily asked.
For just a moment, all Reid could feel was relief. They never knew, or at least Emily never knew.
Reid cleared his throat, it suddenly feeling very dry. "None of you know?" Reid hesitantly asked. Everyone shook their heads. "Hotch? Gideon never told you."
"Never told me what, Reid?" Hotch pressed, trying to keep his face neutral, but his micro expressions showing just how worried he was.
"I started this conversation because I wanted to show you all something, but if none of you knew in the first place, there's no point." Reid said quietly, letting the coin drop back into his pocket, where he'd been holding it.
"Reid love, whatever it is, you can tell us." Morgan reassured his boyfriend. "We won't love you any less."
"Yeah kid, we won't think of you any differently." Rossi soothingly added.
Here goes nothing. "Four months, 12 days, and 23 hours ago, was the five year anniversary of Tobias Hankle kidnapping me."
Everybody, including Rossi, even though he wasn't there for it, tensed.
Inhaling sharply, Emily nodded. "Go on."
"Over the course of two days, Hankle- he- Hotch?"
"Hankle tortured Reid, trying to get him to confess his sins. Though it wasn't just Tobias." Hotch picked up.
"Merda, there were multiple unsubs?"
"Yes, but also no. Tobias had dissociative identity disorder. His alters were that of his father, Charles, and Raphael, an archangel without emotions or mercy." Hotch explained. "Charles and Raphael beat him, whipped his foot, forced him to play Russian Roulette, forced him to pick who dies out of four seemingly random people, who they thought sinned in some way, and even killed him. Reid had fallen back in his chair and hit his head, which caused a seizure. Only for Tobias to bring him back with CPR. We saw some of it on a livestream, but not all. I think we only saw about 20 minutes of Reid's kidnapping."
"How did you find him." Rossi asked.
"Reid had been giving us hints throughout the whole thing." Emily replied.
Penelope looked like she was seconds away from covering her ears and pretending she wasn't there.
"Well it's good you saved him." Rossi said, thinking that was the end.
"We didn't." Morgan said, looking very ashamed.
"Reid had confessed to sending his mother to Bennington's so Charles forced Reid to dig his own grave. We had arrived where Reid was being held at that point, so Reid could see our flashlights, but he obviously couldn't just call out, so he tricked Charles into digging. He then got ahold of Charles' gun and shot it with it, knowing there was only one bullet. Luckily, he did."
"We got Reid not even a minute after, we didn't really rescue him, he rescued himself." JJ whispered.
"So what exactly did that monster do?" Rossi growled.
"Beat him, whipped him, psychologically tortured him, played Russian Roulette with him and made him dig his own grave." Hotch answered.
"And drugged me." Reid finally whispered.
Silence enveloped the jet.
"What?" Garcia whispered.
"He drugged me. The whole time I was held captive, I was higher than this jet." Reid sombrely said. "When I confessed my sin, I was too high to even know what I was saying. You thought I seized because I hit my head. While that is partly true, it was mainly because I overdosed. Tobias had an addiction to dilaudid, which was caused by his father's abuse, and he thought if I was high, it wouldn't be as bad. It wasn't as bad."
Reid let what he had said wash over the jet.
"Reid..." JJ whispered, tears in her eyes.
"The first time he did, it I was so scared, I begged him not to, the second time, I didn't have the strength to tell him no, because it really and truly made it easier." Reid shamefully said. "When you found me, I wanted a moment alone with Tobias. I stole the vials. When I got home, I shot up with the syringes I kept in my apartment for science."
"Spence... oh honey." Morgan whispered, wanting to hold his boyfriend's hand, but thinking against it as he saw Reid's leg bouncing with anxiety, and the last thing he wanted was for Reid to have a meltdown.
"I was addicted for four months and 12 days. It took me missing a plane and talking with my ex, Ethan, and Gideon for me to realise I needed to get clean. Ethan had told me that it was obvious that I was high, and that you all knew, but turns out, only Gideon knew."
"Reid, I'm so sorry, we all just thought you were going through ptsd." Garcia cried, tears flowing freely now.
"I was, but also high."
"I remember you took four days off after that, you said you needed a little more time." Hotch stated.
"I was detoxing. I detoxed alone, I thought I was going to die," he said, ignoring their guilty faces, "but ever since then, I've been sober. Today-" Deep breath. "Today marks my five year sobriety." He pulled out the medallion, showing it to his team. "I got it when we were in Alaska. I stopped by an NA to get it on the way to the airport."
"Oh Reid, we're so proud of you." Emily said, nodding at him.
"We are, kid." Rossi added.
"I'm going to make you so many cookies!" Garcia tearfully exclaimed. She seemed seconds away from hugging the poor 29 year old, being held back only by Hotch's hand on hers. Which was good, because a spontaneous hug would not have gone over well with the young genius.
"You really didn't know." Reid whispered to himself.
"Of course not. If any of us had known, we would have helped you in a heartbeat." Emily reassured him. "But I do have to ask, is that why you didn't like me back then?"
Reid wrinkled his nose and eyebrows in confusion. "I never disliked you. I just- I was going through some pretty serious withdrawals, not unlike heroin withdrawals."
"Ah," JJ said, "good to know you never hated my girlfriend."
"I could never hate Emmy."
"Aww, Reid, you are the only one who gets to call me Emmy. Is that clear everyone?" Emily joked.
"We're glad you told us." Hotch said, giving his best fatherly smile possible. "It makes more sense now why you never accepted narcotic painkillers when you were infected with anthrax and when you got shot."
"Oh baby genius, you must have been in so much pain." Garcia cried.
"It's ok Garcia, it's in the past. I'm really happy I told you all too, at least now you know, and when I'm ever injured in the future, you can make sure I don't have narcotics given to me. I've gone to narcotics anonymous meetings, so I'm doing good. But I did increase the amount of coffee I drank when I got sober." Reid pointed out. "I don't know if you noticed."
"We just thought it was because of the nightmares." JJ replied.
"Though, now that I think about it, it doesn't make sense as much anymore because I've lived with you for a while now, and you don't get them as much anymore."
"But it still makes sense, because you have a caffeine addiction." Emily laughed.
"I wouldn't call it an addiction per se, it partly was because of the nightmares, but it was mostly because whenever I had a craving, I'd get a cup of coffee, and over time, I just kept the habit of drinking so much. It still helps when I get a craving, even though they aren't as often now as they were in the first few months. It just kind of became a coping mechanism." Reid explained. "I guess I kicked an old addiction, with a better, but still not great, new one."
"Stick with the caffeine, kid." Rossi smiled.
Reid grinned, pocketing the medallion once more. He was glad he told them. They were his family. He felt light, like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Everything was fine.
"I'm sorry, is no one going to mention that Reid said when he's injured in the future we'd know not to allow him narcotics?" Emily said.

Okay I was gonna makes this into a blurb of some sort but instead I'm just going to spill my brainthoughts to you for a second!!
I think Spencer and Stephen both went to Caltech, and they met when Stephen was in undergrad and Spencer was working on his PhDs (because I think they're roughly the same age?)... Spencer liked to audit undergrad classes for fun and he happened to be in a couple of Stephen's so that's how they initially met, and then it turned out that Spencer's on-campus housing was right next to Stephen's dorm so they started seeing even more of each other.
One day Stephen's like, hey, my dad's going to be in town next week doing a lecture on his job at the FBI, you should totally go, so that's how Spencer first meets Jason Gideon. Not long after that Spencer and Stephen start hooking up, but it's casual and they don't tell Stephen's dad, they keep it kind of on the DL (it being the late 90s-ish and all).
But as time goes by they keep hooking up and eventually start a relationship and they're super happy together. They support each other and Jason keeps coming back and meeting with Spencer and Spencer realizes he wants to join the FBI and he still never tells Jason that he's dating (or even knows) Stephen. They date through all of Spencer's PhDs, until he's ready to move to Quantico.
When it's time for graduation, they know they're going separate ways and it's a mutual decision to split up. Spencer is joining the FBI academy and Stephen is doing...something in California. They end their relationship on a really positive note, though, and they remain friends.
On his first official day working at the BAU, Gideon shows him around and then asks, So, have you talked to my son recently? Turns out he'd known they were together the whole time and never said anything about it. Because he's an excellent profiler.
It's his way of checking up on Stephen, since they've become estranged.
Life gets in the way for everyone.
And then Spencer and Stephen meet again that day outside the cabin.
~ rossi has taken on the father role for basically the entire team, so the spare rooms in his mansion are each filled with extra clothes and books and whatever his kids need to relax after a stressful case
~ emily and spencer go see foreign films together
~ garcia and hotch geek out on musicals and the theater and they try to see plays together once a month
~ jj once got her go bag and her diaper bag confused when she was fresh from her first pregnancy and that's how when she went to grab her pyjamas their first night out she pulled out a diaper, and derek just lost. his. mind. we're talking falling out of his bed, can't breathe kind of laughter
~ garcia's apartment is the designated zone of comfort so after really bad cases the whole team stuffs themselves into her living room and they bake cookies and watch movies and fall asleep in a pile on her couch
~ they've stopped letting emily use the copier bc every time she uses it she manages to break it. one time it caught on fire, and the only explanation emily had for hotch later was "i'm psychic" and then she flicked him in the forehead
~ all of their kids call the other members of the team "aunt" and "uncle" and they're so damn spoiled (especially between garcia and rossi)
~ one time aaron got a call at 3 am from drunk emily asking if he could come confirm that she was in fact an fbi agent because ladies night went a little too hard and they're currently in a holding cell and the cops will only let them out if one of their fellow agents brings their badge in for proof. which is how aaron ends up at a small precinct in virginia in his pyjamas but with his badge, and when he walks in he sees that emily smudged her makeup, jj is practically covered in dirt and garcia is only wearing one of her heels. the drive back is not pleasant for anyone (emily starts singing showtunes at the top of her lungs and she is very off key)
~ they tried having a casino night department party and they collectively lost $475 to spencer bc they forgot he can count cards and generally grew up in vegas
~ when derek and emily share a room on cases they fall asleep to kurt vonnegut audiobooks
~ anderson is invited to almost every party/event, even if he can't make it they want to make him feel included
Ok, does anyone know what Criminal Minds fan fiction I'm looking for? Basically Reid and Morgan get into a car accident. When Morgan wakes up he's in a different reality where Reid never joined the bau and instead became a serial killer. Can anyone help me? I've been looking for it forever and I'm so ticked off that I never saved it to my reading list. I believe it's on Ao3 but there's a small chance it's on fanfiction.net. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
"What happened?" Worried Morgan looks to Spencer sitting on the floor of their bedroom, his head buries in the crotch of his arms that he had placed on his pulled up knees. "Angel?"
"I wanted it to look nice"
"What did you want to look nice?" Concerned Derek steps closer.
"My hair" Anxiously Spencer looks up and Derek can tell how he cut it, "I don't like it now."
"Oh baby why would you change it so much in the first place?" Derek reaches down to his hair letting his hand run through what was once shoulder length curls and is now barely covering his ears.
"I wanted to look better. People kept telling me to wash it more. You did."
"That was not what I meant."
"I hate it now." With tears in his eyes he looks at Derek.
"Come here." Derek pulls him into his arms, "Let me fix it"
"How are you gonna fix this?"
"We are gonna get a nice haircut into this, alright?"
"You can do that?"
"Yes I can." Spencer moves out of the hug while Derek takes his hand up to his hair again, "we are gonna cut the sides short and then leave some of your curls a little bit longer okay?"
"I am sorry"
"You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I look hideous now."
"You don't" Derek gets off from the ground offering a hand to him, "Come on up with you."
"You don't-"
"Get it? Yeah I do. We are gonna fix this and when you get a fresh new haircut it's gonna take a few days to get used to this and then it's gonna be okay." Hesitant Spencer grabs Morgan's hand and lets him pull him up, "Deep breath."
Spencer does while Derek wipes the tears of his cheek, "It's okay"
"Are you sure it's gonna look okay?"
"It will. It's just not what you are used too." He leads him down the stairs towards their guest-bathroom and grabs a high chair from the kitchen for him to sit on in front of the mirror before grabbing the razor causing Spencer to cover his ears the minute he plugs it in. "You gotta take your hands off or I am gonna cut you."
"To loud"
"Alright." Gently Derek pries his hand off his ear, "Can you handle earbuds while we cut your hair?"
"Yes" Once Spencer's hearing is protected Derek starts cutting the sides and brings the upper part to a fitting length while Spencer just looks down on the magic cube in his hands until Derek moves his head up by his chin. "Stop that"
"You gotta tell me if you like it"
"No!" Frustrated by his own decision he pushes Dereks hand away.
"It's okay." Calming Derek places a hand on Spencer's shoulder. "Take your time" After a moment Derek starts cleaning up the hair and tools, "You maybe want to take a shower"
"No"
"Please take a shower"
"No"
"Spencer" Morgan sighs knowing that the hair he has under his shirt won't take long till it annoys him much more than this. "I am gonna let in a bath okay?"
"I don't care." He does seem to care, because after a few minutes he can hear Spencer walking into their bedroom and getting undressed before stepping into their bathroom. "Careful it's hot." With a helping hand he helps Spencer settle down in the warm water that is still rising.
"You too?"
"If you want to."
"But no- you know." Spencer brings out looking down.
"Of course." Derek closes the door behind them, so they can keep the warm in the room and gets undressed to climb in behind him.
"I am sorry"
"You have nothing to be sorry for." Soothing Derek places his hand on Spencer's chest the other on his stomach and pulls him close, appreciating how he now does not immediately have his hair in his mouth. "For what's worth, I like this haircut a lot on you."
"I don't"
"I know" They spend quite some time in there before Spencer gets uncomfortable with the heat and the feeling of the warm air pressing down on them.
"What do you say we send a picture in the group chat? So no one says anything tomorrow."
"Please"
"Alright" Derek stands behind Spencer infront of the mirror in their bedroom and snaps a picture of them, Spencer having a soft smile on his face while the faint blush, from stepping out of the warm bathroom, still decorates his cheeks. "This okay?"
"I don't care."
He finds Spencer when he comes back from picking up dinner curled up in their bed, reading the messages on Morgan's phone.
Rossi:"Looks good,kid!"
JJ:"Someone took a huge step. It looks amazing, Spence!"
Hotch:"This looks more professional. I like it. Good choice, Reid!"
Garcia:"HOW ADORBALE?! You look even more like our baby genius now. I love it"
Emily:"Damn, handsome. You look fantastic! No chance to hide that sweet face of yours anymore."
When Hotch finishes shouting, Rossi stares at him for a few moments.
And then he says: “You were the one that almost destroyed this team by keeping Emily’s death a secret for all those months.”
And Hotch recoils like he’s been slapped. And he stares, mouth open, eyes shining with tears. And he looks horrified but he doesn’t say anything because he’s waiting for Rossi to take it back.
Rossi does not.
So Hotch, quietly and with a voice that sounds like a child says: “Do you honestly think I chose to do that? Do you really think I would’ve kept it a secret if I had any other choice? I begged for the chance to tell you, but the committee laughed in my face and said if I couldn’t be impartial they would replace me.”
Rossi just shrugs, like he expected Hotch to break that rule and get fired.
Reid pipes up from the doorway because he knows neither person would hurt him the way they would another member of the team. What does he say?
“You can’t blame Hotch for what happened because it’s not his fault. It never was.”
And Reid… well to hear it from Reid just shows how badly Rossi has fucked up
