Here from a reblog: I've posited that if an Eridian ever get sense-envy, Grace points out that since he can't feel magnetic fields he never instinctively knows which way is home, so it balances out.

I didn't know Eridians could sense magnetic fields, this is very cool! Grace shows Rocky all the instruments like compasses humans use to measure magnetic fields and just gets mercilessly bullied for not having it built in.

You know how slang changes as time goes on, words that were once innocent become wildly inappropriate within weeks? (looking at you, goon)

I bet there's an Eridian equivalent, their language seems just as advanced as ours, it surely evolves and develops as ours do. Rocky has been off-world for a long time, and so both he and Grace would have been using an outdated lexicon (as well as their weird pigeon English).

They finally get back to Erid and Rocky is all grumpy uncle what does Adrain mean Rocky can't say ♪♫ ♫♬♪♪ anymore, why does it refer to eating food, it never used to mean that.

Grace however, has bigger problems. Problems involving a roomful of pebbles that keep dissolving into giggles for no apparent reason. He's getting horrible deja vu for the first time he used the word cracking in a sentence in his 8th Grade class after that got popular and couldn't regain their attention for half an hour. Immaturity in the face of rude words is universal, so it seems.

Something something human hysterical strength giving Grace the ability to carry Rocky through the ship, to put him back through the airlock and save him. In the book, Grace describes him as about as heavy as a motorbike, he must have been running off adrenaline to manage it.

Rocky doesn't think to ask about it until weeks after when he's recovered.

"How did Grace put Rocky back in his own part of the ship question?"

"Oh, I carried you."

"But you tell me I am very heavy, you tell me I would crush human with my weight. How you do it?"

"Well, in intense situations, humans can lift much heavier things than usual. Its an adrenaline response, we block out the usual inhibitors that prevent it. It's known as hysterical strength. Humans have been known to lift cars off their loved ones, things like that. You were heavy, but I managed it."

(Rocky, incredulous) "Humans can shut off parts of brain to allow them to lift cars??"

"Uhh, yeah. I guess."

"All human race design is ♪♫♪♬♬, statement."

(Grace, teacher voice firmly in place) "Hey, what did we say about swearing?"

"Sorry."

"...Grace consider me one of his loved ones then, question?"

"Yeah, Rock. Yeah."

I lovelovelove the "Grace is a predator at heart and is built for speed and instincutal action, which scares the ever loving FUCK outta Rocky" posts, so I'm gonna expand upon it a bit.

- Eridian scientists and doctors doing their best to help him when they first get to Erid. A few weeks in, he's in and out of consciousness but doing better, a doctor (in a xenosuit obviously) comes in to check on him, sees he's asleep, so goes to examine him closely, because, you know, alien. Grace, who was only dozing, jerks away so fast it gives poor Dr Limestone a heart attack.

- the rest of the doctors make an agreement to give Grace plenty of warning before coming near him when he's half asleep again. Rocky explains that yes, Grace just is that quick, and he knows when things are going down.

- when the biodome is done, Grace and Rocky take a trip around it and explore. Rocky thinks it will be funny to throw a stone at Grace. Grace friend has no sound perception, silly. Grace can't view things when he's facing away, Grace will never see it coming. Grace hears Rocky scuffling around and gets the weird human sixth sense, so turns at the last second and catches the rock mid air, in one hand, then skims it across the water. Rocky is VERY unnerved, and also cant work out which bit is more impressive, the catch or the skim.

- later, when teaching the pebbles, they go on a heavily supervised trip into the biodome. One little pebble breaks off and hides in a rocky outcropping. Teacher Grace will never find them here. Cut to Grace stalking through the rocks like a true predator, all senses straining, and eventually snags the wayward rock and carries it back to the group. None of the other pebbles consider going AWOL again. Teacher Grace can find them.

- Grace deciding he needs more exercise, so going for runs around the biodome. He decides to go for endurance. Rocky comes to visit only to watch in horror as Grace runs for an hour pretty much straight. "How long can you do that for, question?" "With proper hydration and calorie intake, and rests, pretty much as long as I like." "What the fuck, question."

Headcannon that the newspapers and media had a hard time of finding photos and info about Grace to put in their columns.

They search high and low for a sign of the mysterious man who was at Stratt's side for so long. They didn't focus on him back then, the paparazzi somehow failed to capture him properly whenever they got close enough to badger Stratt. Just another lackey, they all assumed.

He was never one for photos, he'd bat away Ilyukhina when she called him for a group shot. He'd make some joke about how he always looked awful in them, that his smile wasn't quite right, and she eventually gave up trying to convince him. Only a few shots remain, ones she snagged when he wasn't looking. Sleeping at his desk with a stack of coffee cups piled beside him, eating a packet of sour skittles with a look of pure bliss, working on a report with his tongue stuck out and a pen behind his ear, hair rumpled. Half forgotten memories.

The media is tearing itself apart looking for a sign. They find his disproved scientific paper, but after that he seems to drop off the map. No family, no known friends. Who was this man?

Then people come forward, finally. Not scientists, not relations, but parents. People who sat across the table from him at parents evenings, people who trusted him with their children, perhaps the highest form of trust. They have photos from sports days and school plays and barbecues, and more importantly, they have stories. He was an amazing teacher, a good colleague, a kind man. He was patient and clever and inquisitive.

The world knows Ryland Grace as a saviour first, but a teacher second.
