If I ever write a memoir, the working title is "My Heart Is a Dive Bar." They are still among my favorite places, even though I can't do what they're designed to facilitate anymore. It makes perfect sense to me, what people seek in there, why we look for home in the damnedest places. There is an allure to music and stories and the twist on reality that's so enjoyable in the times before it goes completely round the bend and becomes unmanageable. Now it's easier for me to see the sadness underneath it, to walk in someplace for lunch and smile at a person already on his whatever number beer. That's his story until it's not, same as it was mine. I still get it, though. I still look for similar signs in the pavement.

Andrew McCarthy was our surprise #irisawards emcee tonight, and I was the backstage producer so I got to work with him. I have been a fan of the broody dark-haired ones my whole life, and he won my heart in "Heaven Help Us" way before the other films. I have no idea what's going on in my life this week but it's cool and I'm rolling with it. Grateful to my #mom2summit family & @lauramayes & @carriepacini for everything.
