Character: Jake “Hangman” Sersin x OC
Synopsis: Elle comes into the Hard Deck crying, Jake comforts her (to the best of his ability)
She didn’t care who’s arms she was in as long as someone would hold her, Elle “Sunflower” Stark walked into the Hard Deck instead of her usual spunk she walked in defeated, brown eyes shining not with mischief but tears.
Necks snapped towards her at lightning speed as if she was a ghost, here she stood, the Top Gun’s one and only Sunflower, shaking with silent tears. All of her friends froze, Elle tended to refuse touch shrinking away from open arms, swatting away hands, shrugging off back pats so any attempt at comfort posed a risk.
The bar for a moment was silent, the murmur of other conversations filling the silence that came from the Dagger squad, the soft twinkling of the lights on Elle’s frame as she plopped down on a barstool eyes never leaving the floor.
She didn’t see who reached out for her first but she could tell just by the way they held her, strong forearms wrapped their way around her one curling around her chest the other around her back. She was no longer slouched forward in her chair, hair covering most of her tear streaked face, she was now resting, leaning into a firm torso the scent of cologne overtaking her sense of smell. A chin resting on the top of her head.
“Sunshine.” He murmured into her dark curls as his fingers began to trace light circles wherever his hands lay.
The Dagger squad didn’t move, didn’t breathe, seeing Elle crying was rare, seeing her willingly accept touch from anyone, especially Hangman of all people was like seeing a unicorn, and seeing Hangman be soft with her well that meant hell must have frozen over.
One by one each member became unfrozen from their trance like state, as they stared at the pair, some murmured among themselves about why she was crying, why Jake of all people ,and why was she not pepper spraying him? Others, such as Payback whipped out their cell phones, lastly there was Bob and Rooster milliseconds away from calling Maverick and telling him something was wrong with his goddaughter and to come fix it before Hangman did.
Meanwhile the two intertwined with one another, were unaware of the chaos unfolding around them.
“Sunny.” He whispered only for her ears, his voice in a cadence she’d never heard from his mouth before ,”Please, talk to me.”
She was beginning to come down from the high of her emotions, slowly unfolding herself, wiping her nose, if the others weren’t deathly afraid of retaliation they’d say she looked adorable red nose, big glassy eyes.
Fanboy, much to Roosters warning and a wary glance from Hangman kneeled down, looking up at Elle resting his hands gently on her knees.
“Hey,” he cooed at her, trying to provide the same comfort Hangman had
“Mickey I will kick you in the chest.” She said her voice now carrying its usual bite, but still coming out huskier from her previous crying.
“Understood.” He said getting up holding his hands in surrender
“Now there’s our Sunflower!” Rooster roared
“Show him who’s boss Sunny!” Bob laughed
Despite her previous comment she still sagging shoulders, hands clutching onto Hangman’s arms a little too tightly, and eyes that refused to leave the floor.
“Elle,” Hangman started again, she refused to look his way, she was more relaxed in his arms, but the hurt still laid right under the surface.
“Elle.” His voice came out slightly firmer, everyone returning to their drinks deciding to either give the pair their privacy, or finding the current pool game much more interesting than whatever was bubbling over.
At the use of her real name she turned to him eyes doing something else than staring at the hardwood ,”Jacob.” She spat back wiping away her mascara streaks.
“You going to tell me why you came in here looking like you got dragged through hell and back Darlin?”
“You going to tell me why your hand was creeping twoard my lower back?”
“I-I it wasn’t!” His hands retreating from her as if she was on fire
“I didn’t tell you I didn’t want it there” she murmured
“Elle, listen, I’m asking you what’s wrong.” He said a blush already creeping up his neck, she wasn’t going to squirm her way out of his questioning that easily.
She let out a sigh Hangman if anything was persistent, he was persistent when it came to trying to hug, flirt, even holding her hands of corse he’d be persistent with this too.
“Fine, fine Jake.” She said twirling in her seat so she’d no longer be tucked into him, but facing him, her hands on his chest his hands once again returning to her lower back. In any other situation it’d have been a daydream come to life for Hangman, Elle sitting at the Hard Deck, her hands on his chest a gentle weight, his hands caressing her hips, lips perfectly puffy. And, yet it was not a dream, it was reality, Elle gripping to his shirt like a lifeline, attempting not to squirm under his touch that she was now too well aware of, and the words that came out of her perfectly puffy lips…
“You have had nightmares so bad you came in here asking for me to hold you?”
She swatted at him “I haven’t slept in damn near a week, that’s it I’m going to let Rooster hold me.” As she looked up at him he took notice, the bags under her eyes a light shade of purple against her tan skin.
“Sunshine, sweetheart, don’t go I didn’t mean to laugh.” He said his hands guiding her back down into the seat.
“How can I kiss it better?” He smirked, despite the exhaustion, the pain, the odd feeling stirring in her chest at seeing him smirk down at her, she laughed, for what felt like the first time in days.
