“Oh, yeah. I remember. For what it’s worth, I don’t he was very fair with you. But hey, look at you now. Don’t really have anyone to prove anything to but yourself, so as long as you’re happy.” Of course Madi remembered everything. She was part of the family for so long. “That is amazing. I’m happy for you. You deserve it. Cherish what you have, honestly.” She spoke from experience mostly but truly wanted Elliot to be happy and she would always be there for him.
‘‘no, he wasn’t-- but what are ya gonna do right? i only proved that i wasn’t a big failure like he thought i’d be. though... the way my service ended probably proved i wasn’t cut out for the military like i thought i was.’‘ he murmured, hand rubbing his chin in thought with that grin still plastered on his face. ‘‘i struggled so long after i got out of the military, had some lows and thought... thought i wouldn’t get out of that hole. but now i’m out of it, and i’m cherishing everything. being sober, having a girlfriend that loves me and just being in a town with a familiar family friend.’‘
