i hate how modern culture has kind of…pushed its narrative on fanfic. like, authors aren’t writing fic to be a product. they’re not writing it to please the public or make a profit off of it. they’re writing it for themselves and because they enjoy making people happy and sharing their stories with others. they’re not obligated to listen to any sort of suggestion/criticism/complaint/etc. because their fic isn’t a product. it’s not something you can rate. give kudos and leave a comment if you like it. scroll if you don’t.
I made it
good morning. claim the energy
good night. claim the energy
#happy october 3rd!✨
writers will really have a doc titled ‘fic planning’ and then it’s just blank
writers will say “i’m going to write!” and then do something else with the doc open in the background
writers will literally put out the most heart-wrenching and devastating piece of fiction that’s a million times better than the source and go haha hope you liked :)
writers will have a life changing event happen to them (married, natural disaster, accident etc etc) and then still manage to put out an incredible fic and go ‘sorry this was 0.394838373 seconds late guys :(‘
writers will go ‘love writing!’ and then don’t write for 10 years
anyway i love writing and i love writers
now hold on a goddamned second
writers will complain about this post while continuing to not write
When you find a fanfic writer you like:
Slow burn ftw
Don't you sometimes get an absolutely extrodinary, mind blowing, such an awesome idea for a story, but you just don't have enough skill level to pull it off?
Write it anyway.
Write it anyway, write it anyway, write it anyway.
There are so, so, so many reasons:
You gain that skill level only through practice. So practice.
No matter what you’re writing, no matter how badly you think you’ve written it, there is ALWAYS some audience that will love it and cherish it.
You can use what you write the first time around as a first draft and just rewrite it again later when you feel like tackling the story again!
Rewriting the same story over and over is a valid writing process. It’s literally just creating new drafts. Each iteration will be better than the last, because each is building on your growing skill and experience.
If you love the story, it will always be worth telling simply for your own enjoyment. If no one else ever sees it, that’s okay! Your art should be for you first, anyway.
Write it anyway.
probably gonna get shot on site for this but oh well
it is okay if you don't know literally every single detail about canon. It's okay!!! Its okay if you haven't seen every movie. It's okay if you never read the books. Its okay if you haven't seen every episode. Its okay if you haven't read every comic. Its okay if most of the stuff you know came from reading fanfic. Its okay if you have literally never touched the source material. Its okay if all you do is interact with tumblr posts or fanart. Its okay if you decide to make up your own version of events even if they contradict canon completely.
Fandom spaces do not exist to be policed. Fandom spaces do not exist to be gatekept. If you don't know each and every detail then its okay because fanspaces exist for you to fill in the cracks with whatever it is you like. You can literally headcanon whatever, no one can stop you. you have my permission to go crazy
Slow burn? No, no. You misunderstand. I write crockpot romance.
We're not done mutually pining until everything's good and tender and everyone's ravenous.
"write every day or you're not a real writer"/"you have to write every day if you want to succeed" is an ableist mindset. I can't even talk every day, and you want me to be able to work on my WIP during that time? I can't. I just can't. That is not an achievable thing for me as an autistic person. It won't be achievable for a lot of other ND people either, or certain mentally ill people, or certain physically disabled people.
Writers do not have to write every day to be real writers, and saying otherwise is ableism.
(If your response to this was "well, those posts don't mean disabled writers have to", that's still bad. Disabled writers are real writers, posts about "writers" in general inherently include us, and even fully abled people still shouldn't feel pressured to write every single day.)
Yes I re-read my own fics because I wrote them for ME
Wish that bitch would update though.
leaving kudos on ao3 isn’t enough I need to be able to eat the fic
Fanfic writers really said "in any universe, in any scenario, despite any obstacle, these people would love each other" and I think that's very cool of us
