Ponyboy Curtis except he's paralyzed by the constant fear of saying or doing the wrong thing.

A teacher kindly tells him after class that she's not mad but he needs to give the other students a chance to talk and he doesn't speak in that class for the next 3 months.

Someone asks for his opinion on something only to be given a weird look and told that his opinion is wrong, and for at least the next 6 months he carefully thinks about everything he says and does lest he make another wrong opinion.

He tells a funny story only to be told that he's over-sharing and for people to take his story as him being upset, so he refuses to interact with those people again and he gets scared to share stories or funny anecdotes in fear he'll overshare again.

He's constantly running through past interactions in his mind trying to figure out if he really was speaking too much, or why his opinion was wrong, or why his story was TMI. The thing is he can never figure it out so he just keeps his mouth shut and stops speaking as much because he doesn't want to be Different and disliked, and the next time his mouth gets ahead of him and he speaks up about something, he feels so ashamed and guilty that he doesn't look anyone in the eye for weeks.

One thing about ao3 that I enjoy is the fact that it doesn't bombard you with fics.

For example, as someone who gets distracted easily, the home screen really helps me not get distracted and go at my own pace.
