I LOVE ghirahim facing mortality (either for himself or somebody else), like as you said it is such a removed subject for him and having to face it, notice the changes for the first time (while also being irreversibly changed from the fight) and seeing himself go through similar stages but only on the inside?!?! ABSOLUTE PEAK!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Awe thank you! It was just a stray thought but I have so many of them and the theme of living weapons in skyward sword is just so rich that you can dig into it really deep and often and still find something interesting to latch onto
And I guess that's because you have sword people and you have people swords, and they're not that different, but the differences are very real and big - like the immortality/non-mortal lifespan elephant in the room. Old Impa is very symbolic like that, because she is a living weapon at rest, and because she's a human, she's just going to pass away at some point. From old age
That's not something Ghirahim himself would fully ponder on by himself because he's never needed to. And if he were forced in a situation where he had to confront that, he would probably be very unnerved. Time for him and Fi, it likely isn't as much of a problem as it is for mortals.
But now, if we're in that scenario where he's living with her, he's witnessing the slow rust and death of a very competent adversary. It'd be very new for him.
I don't know what he'd do after she's gone, but a part of me thinks he still tends to the place, because he sort of has experience with grief in that when Demise perished in that duel, he likely found ways to cope with that.
Maybe he spent time at the bottom of the sealed grounds, or maybe he just knelt by rivers when given the chance because he remembers where his master actually died
Either way, Ghirahim and facing grief in two entirely different ways is a very rich topic. Because he would understand a fast death, he would understand somebody being killed in battle, but death of old age would be an entirely different beast to him
Arghghfg characters in fiction who are not human, who are not mortal, are so interesting to dig into. I like them so much, the personifications of things like death, love, objects, like Ghirahim is a sword. It's just - how would such a thing experience the world as a person, you know? How would they deal with human things. It's just so interesting!
