Seeing a resurge in The Mentalist fandom makes me so happy. Yes, pull up a seat and watch this incredible show with me! See one of the first consultant/cop series with morally grey characters that sucked me into shipping and intrigue to begin with! A storyline where the dead wife haunts the show so damn well!! I've been waiting, 10, long, years for this to all come back.
Really bleak that thing you said about Sasha having to attend veterans therapy. Is this something she works out on her own when she or her family get fed up with nothing helping or does she crash out hard enough at some point that she is referred to the program?
Imagining her walking into a room with a circle of middle-aged dudes looking at her incredulously like she's someone's brat, then she starts talking and they recognize that harrowed look behind her eyes and they're all speechless
Definitely the latter. I see Sasha as feeling like she has no place in human society anymore so she tries to relive her days on the run by… running away. Into some national park. They find her a few days later and while she is fine and was able to survive just fine that understandably made Anne and Marcy flip the fuck out. Sasha can handle a lot but she can’t handle hurting her girls, not anymore. Seeing them so scared and upset, sobbing while they yell at her… it scares her straight.

@ previous tag, I just wanted to share my own thoughts on this, as a reader and a writer myself, I don’t think it’s “weird” if an author doesn’t respond back to a comment they got.
because authors don’t owe anyone anything. and them not responding for whatever reason (not knowing what to say? feeling like a simply “thank you so much” sounds too cliche and repetitive when it’s used to respond to several people? being too tired from life outside of fandom space? feeling overwhelmed? all of these are what I have experienced as a writer who tries to respond to comment I received) does not mean they don’t appreciate the support people have shown them.
sometimes I can’t respond to comments I received on my works, for the reasons I have previously stated, but that does not mean I don’t read and appreciate each and every single one of them.
and as a reader who comments on works I love, I never expect the authors to respond to my comments. sure, it’s great if they do. but the point of me commenting on their works is only to let them know I love what they wrote and I appreciate them for sharing these works with me. they don’t have to respond to me. because, as a writer, I totally understand responding to comments can be very overwhelming too.
my point is that comments are always deeply appreciated, but yeah, as a writer and a reader/commenter, the main purpose of comments is to let the authors know we love and appreciate them and their works. not for them to always respond.
the point of fandom should not be “straining yourself to interact with every single person who interacts with you”, the point of fandom should just be that it’s fun, it’s a source of comfort and self-care.
so in my opinion, “interacting with other people in the fandom” is not the whole point of fandom, not to me, at least. having fun and engaging in fandom space/activities on your own terms is the point.
I'd also add that the author has already put in the effort into writing the piece with which people can engage with. Anything given on top of that is bonus content!
Made this unofficial credits sequence right before I wrapped on Haunted Hotel Season 1 as a board artist! It was very fun to do, i loved that abaddon wanted to be tossed in the washer and have him here trying to bribe his way in with the bucket of buttons from episode 9 haha. anyways enjoy!!

Happy New Year everyone. Hope it's been good so far for you all and continues to be. I have a special snippet for you today as I literally just wrote it after being inspired by @liminal-lesbian and their story. Seriously, great story, you must read! Enjoy all of their work actually.

So without further ado, here's this week's snippet!
Day two, I guess, of finding old WIPs that I like enough to show off. This one isn't just "old" at least, it's from around when I started diligently dating digital works, so it has an actual date attached. (It's dated circa 5/7/27, but from memory it might be closer to late April.) It's also a lot more complete than "Kasparov's Immortal", and actually comes to a decent stopping point.
It's not from a specific au, it's just something I wrote on a whim. (It is Amphibia though.) It's titled "Flowers" and, full disclosure, it's a hanahaki thing. Let me know what y'all think! :D
Warnings for: Coughing up blood and vague spoilers for Amphibia (finales of seasons 2 and 3)
A nasty, breathless cough tore its way from Sasha's lungs, bringing with it blood and petals. Great. Just great. Pale petals soaked in deep crimson fell into her hands, and tears burned in her eyes. Damnit.
Deep brown eyes, stained with blue by Death itself. Proof of how she was almost taken, and yet she still smiles as bright as the sun. As if none of it had ever happened in the first place.
She looked so happy, and the worst part was that Sasha knew she had zero right to get in the way of that. Not after everything she did in the name of the "happiness" of her friends. God, how could she have been such an idiot?
Dull brown was another pair of Death-stained eyes, drowned in a suffocating sulfur green for months. She still smiles, but it has the air of a grimace— pained and forced. Her eyes dart around anxiously, knowing something happened. It's a painful reminder.
She looked so scared and tired for those weeks after the disappearance, and the worst part was that Sasha knew she'd never be what the other girl needed. She'd never be good enough to help her. To hold her and promise that everything would be okay. She's an idiot for ever thinking she could be.
Another coughing fit seized her, and fuzzy bursts of small white flowers fell into her hands. A painful reminder, both physically and emotionally, of time she could never have back.

Sasha felt so stupid, in hindsight. But hindsight is just the universe's way to bite you in the ass after the fact.
She should've seen the look on Anne and Marcy's faces when she first introduced them to the girl. They knew, Sasha knew to some extent, but that poor girl had zero clue.
That Sasha, as much as she'd refused to admit it, was head-over-heels in love with the girl who'd hopped on a plane to spend Junior Prom with her. And she was in love with the girl who was in the same school building as her but felt just as distant.
But here she was, with a fancy store-bought rose-and-baby's-breath boutonniere that matched the corsage on a completely different girl's wrist. What a fucking joke.

She tried to suck in a breath, but it got caught in tangled stems and crumpled leaves. The motion only succeeded in making her cough harder, repeating the cycle.
A knock eventually startled her out of it, accompanied by a hesitant call of her name. "Sash?" She panicked a little, and called for the unwanted visitor to leave. "I can't, Mom's worried. We're all worried. Are you sick?"
Part of Sasha felt vindicated in a way, satisfied that her pain had been noticed, but the rest of her flared with agitation. Why did they have to notice now? Why did they have to be so worried? Why did her mom have to send one of those fucking kids instead of just talking to her like a normal person?
She didn't voice any of that, though. She wouldn't— the kids didn't deserve that. Instead, she took a shallow breath and spouted out excuses. Like she always did.
