The Kite String Tangle's new EP is out in the States tomorrow!! Who's excited? This girl.  

I was on board with Danny Harley's stuff last year when I heard Given the Chance but he just keeps getting better!  This first song is upbeat and charismatic while some of his other work is quieter, but his covers all have a delicate, floating quality that set them apart.  Reminiscent of Active Child and Bastille with elements of fellow Aussie Chet Faker.  Extra points for writing, performing and producing all his own stuff.  

He covered Lorde's Tennis Court and rocked a string backup to cover Flight Facilities' Clare de Lune.  

He's also featured here with Canadian duo Adventure Club   The song is upbeat but the video is a tear-jerker.

Cape Town Music Scene

there is a vibrant and little-known music scene in the mother city.  here are some of the gems I've uncovered since I moved here...

PHFAT is an electronic rap crew with a edgy, bizarre sound.  they've gained some notoriety across SA with songs like Kill the Universe and Lights Out (ft. YungFreud) and are going international with tours in Australia and Europe.

Yannick da rap Mechanic is a charismatic MC with a good sound to back up his game. his stuff is straight hip-hop with smooth flow and clever rhymes. citing influence from greats like Nas and Eminem, Yannick's work has a distinct feel that's unique and familiar at the same time

TouchWood is an upbeat, earthy folk band combining strings, marimba and the ukelele among other instruments.  their stuff is catchy and even better live, where they bring contagious energy and happiness to the venue.
