âWoke Up This Morningâ [continuedâŚ]
As soon as the ultrasound came out, Wade was up fast, sliding the chair from across the table over so he could sit closer. Â He sat back down, in absolute awe at how clear the picture seemed. Â He could even make out the closed eyelids, shape of his mouth and jaw, and yes, definitely a âheâ. Â The grin on his face started to spread even wider as Christian said, âHe kinda looks like me, doesnât he? Â Definitely gonna be a blondie, thatâs for sure. Â No question there. Â Or on whether or not heâs an inny or an outty. Â Heh! Â Thatâs my boy, alright. Â Practically got a third leg, from this angle.â
His chuckle and starstruck demeanor began to fade as Lily mentioned how his mother had approached her. The sorrow and guilt on her face was eminent as she set down the glass of water.  Wade reached over, lightly gripping the top of her hand with a reassuring hold as his sights locked into her eyes, sincerity piercing through as he leaned forward.  âListen, my motherâs a handful.  We all know this.  Itâs not your fault, alright?  Knowinâ her, she probably stalked you for weeks⌠Hell, more like months, before cominâ up to say anything.  You had every right to be nervous about cominâ here.  I know you and me barely had a one-night fling before I had to book it up to Oregon. Of course, youâd be nervous tellinâ me. Why wouldnât you be?  But listen, weâll figure shit out.  Alright?â Â
He watched her put his hand back over her belly to feel his son kick again, smiling adoringly down at the feel of his little manâs feet bumping up against his palm.  Taking the moment of quiet to just feel the movements, Wadeâs face softened.  Looking up to Lily again, he nodded with a tender grin as she mentioned that heâd been moving a lot more with hearing his father speak.  âGuess he knows who his old man is, huh?â  With a smirk, Wade sat back in the chair and motioned with his chin down the hallway as she asked to use the restroom.  âGo for it, darlinâ.  Just down the hall, last door on the left.  Hey, uhh⌠you mind if I keep this for a bit?â  He held up the ultrasound and added, âKinda like to make a few copies, if ya know what I mean.  Gonna have a few people wantinâ to get their hands on the first pic of my soon to be boxing champ.â  He chuckled, smiling as his gaze turned back to the photo of his son gradually turning to a bit of nervousness. Â
âDamn. Â Iâm gonna be a Dad,â that thought started reeling in his brain as she went to the restroom. Â Suddenly the violence that came with the club and all that his mother kept pushing him into began to resonate. Â Along with it, the thought of Lilyâs past began rolling in. Â With a wrinkled brow, he pondered over what sheâd left behind to come up here and hollered out after the toilet stopped flushing, hearing her wash her hands. Â âHey, Lil! Any chance Lucas knows about all this? Heâs not gonna cause a problem, is he? The club still on him down in Charming?â The last thing they needed was that fucker following her up here. Â
Bad enough that his mother stalked the poor girl. Â For all he knew, Vâs psychotic ass may have followed along in that black Escalade of hers, just to make sure Lily came up to deliver the news. Â Neither of them needed to deal with that drama. Â Lucas showinâ up would just be the nail in the coffin, and Wade wasnât about to let that asshole mess with his unborn son. Â Heâd put a bullet in that bastardâs skull before heâd take one step up the driveway. Â Doinâ time or not, if it came down to Christian or his family, heâd always put his family first. Â No matter what the cost. Â Beinâ close to the club, whether patched in or not, Wade still grew up with one absolute locked into his brain. Â Loyalty. You do what you have to do to protect the ones you care about. Â Always.
She was feeling less nervous about the whole thing because he seemed just as excited as she was. Still her hand shook slightly when she showed him the ultrasound. With or without him she was having this baby, but this picture made things very real. When he got up so fast and moved closer the final remnants of fear fell away, and she felt herself relax."It's amazing right? How much you can see of him." Smiling when he noticed how much of a he the baby was. "I think he does look like you and yeah I think he'll be blonde." Her cheeks colored and she laughed again, "Yeah he is a boy for sure, your boy." Squeezing his hand, "I'm so glad you're happy about this too, I was worried about how you'd take this, but I just knew I had to have this baby."
When the conversation turned serious, as it was bound to do when his mother came up. Putting down the water she sighed, she was sorry for how things had turned out. Looking up at him when he took her hand, feeling the sincerity of his emotions and gaze. "I still feel like it is my fault, she shouldn't have had to push me, but I was so scared. That's not fair to you." Shrugging up a shoulder she gave a weak smile, "She could have I suppose." When he said that it wasn't her fault, that he understood why she was nervous she breathed out a sigh of relief. "Thank you for understanding." Smiling when he spoke of their brief encounter, biting her lip, "Yeah it was brief, but . . ." More of a tint, "Doesn't mean it was bad." Nodding at his words she felt the baby move and took his hand so he could feel it. "He's quite the kicker, for sure." They sat quietly for a moment as the baby moved again, liking having his father around for sure. Pulling her lip between her teeth she nodded, "Yes he does." Her bladder ruined the moment and thankfully she made her way to the bathroom.
After she began walking down she turned to him, "Of course not, it's yours." Heading into the bathroom, chuckling at his words, "You do what you want, like I said it's yours." Smiling at the boxing champ comment she relieved herself, catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror. She looked tired but relieved as well, washing her hands she caught site of the scar on her wrists and closed her eyes a minute, taking in a shaking breath. Knowing she'd have to tell him about Lucas, was it ever going to end? Stepping out of the bathroom he beat her to the punch. Frowning she forced a smile to her face, "I don't know if he knows," she said softly, resting her hand on her belly, forcing her eyes up. "As for causing a problem, I don't know honestly." Tears pushed at her eyes and she wrapped her arms around herself, "Last I saw him the club was keeping an eye on him." Sure they were, after not keeping an eye on him and Lucas finding her. She had just found out she was pregnant and was terrified that she would loose the baby, thankfully that didn't happen, but she didn't want to start trouble, he was controlled now, at least as far as she knew.
Lily knew that Wade would be the best one to take care of her and their son, but she also knew how stubborn Lucas could be. Coming over to him she smiled and sat down. "Last I heard Lucas was under surveillance and one false move he'd be dealt with. He's locked away by the cops though, so it's not like they can get close to him. Some of his old buddies, the ones he's ratted on, might get to him first anyway." Chewing her lip a moment, she knew Lucas went to the cops after what happened because the club had indeed almost killed him, she could tell him that, but why ruin a good thing, it was over and done. "I want to name him Christian Wade Junior," she said taking his hand, time to change the subject. "Maybe we can call him CJ?"
