In class today we were all chatting when the topic of subjective art came up.

Obviously someone referenced the famed banana taped to the wall (which I could go into a whole essay on why even talking about that piece proves that it’s art but yall aren’t ready for that)

Her point was that if anyone could do it, it’s not art and therefore invaluable.

I brought up the art piece Electric Fan (Feel It Motherfuckers). The piece itself is a box fan that is always running in a glass case, but it’s meant to represent the breath of the artists lover, who died of AIDS, and whose family took every item except for the box fan.

My point was that art is not deemed art by effort or visual stimulation, it’s the thoughts and feelings it evokes.

Her response was “well I’m sure to that artist it was worth billions, but to us it’s just a box fan, why put it in a museum?”

And I think that says a lot about the constant censorship and loss of empathy in our society, because art used to make you ask questions and broaden your thoughts, but now it’s just a rat race to make the most visually aesthetic picture. Asking the Chat GPT generation to form an independent thought without spoon feeding is literally impossible

Like journalism is some sort of crime and sport.

This is not “messaging.”

This is state-run media targeting,

and we have never seen anything like it in the United States.

They’re calling Mark Kelly’s PSA “follow the law” sedition.

They’re calling journalists who report it criminals.

They’re building narrative infrastructure for repressing dissent

All while a former TV host is being accused of unlawful killings.

You don’t put reporters on a government enemies list unless you’re planning to do something with the list.

I wish more people would understand how badly BPD warps your perception of relationships. Like I need consistency in your behavior, otherwise I’m going to assume I’m hated by you and the world.

“Just ask your friends to communicate better” that’s the thing I do communicate. I tell them “hey if I’ve done something to upset you, please tell me calmly and constructively, I won’t be mad at improvement”

But what I am mad about is when I’ve allegedly hurt someone, they always assume I’ll be able to gauge the subtext. Based off inflection of tone and the speed of their reply. I don’t. And I’ve tried to get people to understand this.

However I’ve noticed many people will take their issues with me and just… not mention them. They let them build and bottle up while I continue blissfully unaware that they are slowly resenting me.

My intention is never to hurt anyone, I just don’t like being yelled at over my mistakes. All it does is make me hate myself, and now I’m a fish out of water who doesn’t understand how to make it better.

What do we get from corporal punishment like that anyway? All it does is bring the captor comfort that their prisoner is suffering for the actions that got them there. But it’s not teaching them anything other than “my life is now lesser because of what I’ve done”

AND YES I get there are awful people incarcerated for a reason, but we should still make a better effort to rehabilitate rather than using our prisons as a dumping ground for the “lesser beings”
