Idk about anyone else but honestly if your D&D character ends up cursed chances are you're doing it right. There are people out there (less so in actual play, for obvious reasons, and the players I DM for are a delight) who took the "don't be a murderhobo" statement to an extreme or are just extremely precious with their characters, and it's simultaneously extremely boring and frustrating because everything is just an attempt to get through the experience unscathed, rather than like... tell a story and/or collaborate.
