Listening to random old wtnv eps, sometimes you get hit with throwaway lines that have more relevance than their delivery implies

Sometimes they are directly relevant to an ongoing plot, or a running gag,

But sometimes you really can't tell if the information is ever going to become relevant at all or if its just one of the writers' brain worms that keeps coming up every now and again

And anyway, I was listening to the strangers episode, and there was a throwaway lines about scientists believing that the 30% of the world that wasn't water was a great sea creature

And usually when Cecil say scientists, he usually means Carlos

And it was mentioned in one of the university of what it is series, I think it was Carlos, explained, that Carlos originally studied marine biology (i think, I remember it had something to do with marine cuz it struck me as a little quirky

And Carlos is out in the middle of a desert doing his research (and sometimes its a little bit implied that he studies science itself? Sometimes I wonder...

Went to the @nightvaleofficial show “Murder Night in Blood Forest” last night in my Smiling God costume I made! The drive was long, but the show was worth it! It was a lot of fun, and a surprising number of people could actually tell what I was dressed as (which is a big deal to me because it never happens lol).

something that i think makes night vale so compelling, beyond the whole. absurd bullshit silly timing and eldritch horrors sprinkled with comedic surrealism and unapologetic diverse character cast. is how, ultimately, it is a community centered story.

our narrator and lifeline to the town of night vale is a community radio show host. the city council may be a hive mind and the secret police and vague yet threatening government agency are absolutely massive surveillance state fuckery that would be awful to live under, but they also use this to demand community from their residents - mandatory participation in things like a marathon (yes i know that was the distant prince shut up bear with me) or the voting thing where it was mandatory yet forbidden to vote? something like that?

people showing up for dark owl records. the oak doors feat. the "who's a good boy" arc. all of it, ultimately, revolves around the fact that night vale is very community oriented.

i think thats why (original) desert bluffs was such a good opposite. strex corp pushed for individualism. competition. pitted their employees against each other. its also why new desert bluffs was so... well. new. its so much more community centric now.

im really behind on episodes still, but wtnv rocked my shit in middle school and the more i listen the more it continues to reinforce that i hold values similar to that of night vale's own. and at the top of that list is one thing.
