Some days are harder than others. We went to church and she made a mess of blessed bread all over the church. Also gave herself a haircut (still can’t find the scissors) and painted her face pink with marker. But she colored one of the pictures from Sunday school and had to put it up to Venerate it. I know October is Down syndrome awareness month but little known fact, mom’s who have a child with disabilities are very likely to develop anxiety and or depression. So mommas it’s hard but if you get the opportunity to have some “me” time and some time with other adults without kids, do it. I got to hang out with my family without having to chase Evilyn around worried she would fall off the dock or get into things. Mostly the dock. I had a full three days to reconnect with my siblings and parents. I got to take the longest bath ever in my dream 🛁 (claw foot). Bubbles and everything. I got to hog the bed and enjoy my glass of wine or a beer with out having to worry Evilyn might drink it too, or break the glass (one of her favorite sounds). Todays therapeutic adventure took me to the cemetery after work. I have always felt comfortable in uncomfortable places, or at least with uncomfortable topics to most. When I go to a funeral I find peace. I look at the fact that an individual who may have been in pain or who may have just been ready to go is now at peace. Head stones in cemeteries are like beautiful creative reminders of the remembered. The photos were more for my “artists therapy” but I had some fun with the camera filters on my phone. I’m supposed to do this creative therapy once a week. Finally finished Μάτι to hang up in my home. The belief is it protects you from the envy of others. My Παππού would say that it would be a good visual reminder not to be envious of others. I don’t believe he was superstitious but I have always had a special place in my heart for it. Strength happens in many situations. It happens in self care and self reflection. It happens in numbers and in change. The first time I stepped into the Narthex I knew. The first time I my kids and I went to church I knew. I knew the strength we would get from this amazing community would be a blessing and it has been. This could make me reflect on many things. Why I found faith again gives me hope. Being a mom to amazing kids. Being a wife to a super understanding and supportive husband. My sister and I were talking the other day and she and I were talking about my Witchcraft days. She basically told me it was weird when I said I was getting baptized and going to the Orthodox Church, but it really isn’t. Give me a religion that doesn’t judge me for my sins but wants me to learn from them and realize I am only human. Wants me to learn from the poetic chants of monks hundreds and thousands of years before me. Iconography and no judgement. That gives me new additions to my family.
