How to Fix your Sleep Schedule
We’ve all been there. You’ve been pushing back your bedtime for an entire week and now you feel exhausted and you don’t think you can function as well as you normally could. You just want to get enough sleep again, but how?
Make small changes
It’s a lot easier to push back your bedtime than to push it forward—but it’s not impossible. You just have to take it step by step. Go to sleep 15-30 minutes earlier every night until you reach your desired bedtime. You could try going to sleep much earlier than your regular time, but according that doesn’t usually work out. If you’re waking up later than you want to, you might also want to try waking up 15 minutes earlier each morning until you get up at the desired time.
I remember there was a week this semester when I went to sleep at 1am for several days in a row (I usually sleep at 11). I was sleep deprived and exhausted and I tried to sleep at 8 to catch up on lost sleep, but I couldn’t. I just laid in my bed for an hour until I gave up trying to sleep and decided to work on some homework until I felt sleepy again. What I should’ve done was go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until I could go to sleep at 11 again.
Adjust exposure to sunlight
Exposure to adequate amounts of sunlight is key to helping our bodies maintain their circadian rhythm, which is the process that regulates our energy levels during the day and tells us when to be awake and when to go to sleep. Sunlight helps our body produce optimal levels of melatonin, a hormone that makes us feel sleepy at night. Studies have shown that people get better quality sleep in the summer because there is a greater exposure to light.
That being said, you should expose yourself to more light during the day to get better sleep at night. This might mean waking up earlier so you don’t miss hours of sunlight in the morning.
At night, you should reduce your exposure to any sort of light - both natural and artificial - so that your body knows it’s time to not be awake. I personally turn down the lights (and only have my fairy lights on) after 10:30 pm. When you’re trying to get back into your desired sleep schedule, you could aim to turn down the lights 30 minutes before your desired bedtime for that day.
Don’t eat too close to bedtime
You should wait 2 - 3 hours between dinner/your last meal and bedtime. I would talk about how studies show that eating too close to bedtime can possibly damage your health, e.g. causing reflux when you’re lying down, but that’s all been said before. The only thing I’d like to reiterate is that you sleep better when you wait after you eat. But as for my own logic on why you shouldn’t go to sleep when you’re full…
When you wait a few hours after you’ve had your last meal, before you go to bed, you won’t go to bed full, meaning that in the morning, you’re likely to be hungry. I don’t know about you, but I can’t go back to sleep when I’m, like, starving, so being hungry when I wake up causes me to resist sleeping in.
Don’t sleep in
You would think that sleeping in is, in fact, good for catching up on sleep. In reality, it doesn’t make you stop sleeping late, since you’d probably still spend the same amount of time awake. Instead, once you wake up, you should stay up, and don’t go back to sleep. You’re likely to get sleepy at an earlier time, and this will help you push forward your bedtime.
Resist napping
Resisting naps also has a similar logic to not sleeping in. If you take a nap, you’ll feel more energetic and night, and you might not be able to fall asleep as soon as you wanted to. If you resist taking a nap, however, you’ll be more tired at night, and you’ll fall asleep more easily.
Be strict with yourself
Finally, the key to having a good, consistent sleep schedule is to be strict with yourself. Don’t let yourself stay up for just 5 more minutes because you still have a ‘small’ task to take care of. When it’s time to end the day, end the day.
Maybe it’s hard for you to be strict with yourself since you can’t justify going to sleep over completing whatever task or responsibility you have left. Well, here’s my logic:
You could stay up 5 more minutes and risk extending that to a few hours or so in attempt to finish something. There’s no guarantee that you’ll finish it, and you might just lose all those precious hours of sleep for nothing, since you’ll wake up in the morning tired and unable to effectively do the task you wanted to do; or
You could stop everything you’re doing and sleep on it. You wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and clear-headed and ready to tackle on your tasks for the day. You find a new way to think about the task you were stuck on, and you finally solve it in less than half an hour.
I do realize that this only applies if the task isn’t super urgent. Let’s say you have a project due 11:59 PM and you’re rushing to finish that. In this case, the core problem is probably something else: an inability to manage your time, or procrastination. If that’s the case, you might want to check out my posts on how to beat procrastination and how to create an efficient (revision) schedule. The latter post is tailored for exam preparation, but the main ideas are the same for general scheduling (there’s a recap at the bottom if you just want to know the main ideas).

Don’t emotionally blackmail others. They hurt you? Let them know and then move on. It’s between the two of you and not the world.
Cook dinner. Cook dinner and listen to music, the radio, or a podcast.
Treat yourself to candles and flowers. Be your own cheerleader.
Take naps. Take a cat nap on a Sunday afternoon with the blinds open and the fan on high.
Drink your water, eat your vegetables. Take care of your body.
Never have time to take off your jewelry before bed, but always have time to take off your makeup. Your nighttime skin regime is important.
Mystery is beautiful. You don’t need to reveal much of or about yourself.
Never appear other than as you are. Don’t lie about yourself. Embrace who you are at your core.

Why lush is so expensive
Please remember that Lush is a fair trade company. This means that all they pay ALL of their workers a livable amount, and don’t take advantage of workers and harvesters in third world countries like many brands do. They test none of their products on animals as well.
Please keep these things in mind! Just know there is a reason that they cannot sell their bath bombs for 99 cents each. Doing so would mean that hard workers are being under paid.

constant checks on their resources - They will drop any company that they are partnered with if they learn that they are gathering ingredients in an inhumane way, harming the environment, or puts their people at risk
charity work - if you’ve ever heard of Charity Pot, it’s called such because 100% of the cost (not proceeds) go to charity. It’s not what’s left over after they’ve paid the workers or bought the ingredients, it’s every single cent.
kitchens instead of factories - They dont have a big warehouse of stock. They don’t have processing plants. What they have are buildings with industrial kitchen equipment, where all products are made by hand.
fighting animal testing - a lot of companies say that they dont do animal testing, but they don’t do anything to prevent animal testing and may use ingredients sourced from animal testing. Lush leads protests, creates bills, and spreads information, as well as only work with those who don’t use animal testing, in order to fight the system
helping their sources- If they find out that something is wrong with one of their companies, they’ll do what they can to fix it. That means, if something is broken, they will fix it, even though it’s just someone that they’re partnered with.
delicate products - everything they sell has an expiration date, because it’s all made out of fresh ingredients and they use as little preservatives and unnatural things as they can. That and bathbombs break, all the time. They can’t sell it if it has any damage larger than a dime.

My mom never really noticed. She noticed when she was breast feeding my little brother and blood started coming out instead of milk.
My mom said she felt and saw a little lump in the shower. She was lucky enough she found it at stage 2
My mom had a mammogram. The radiologist thought the spots were just regular calcium deposits.
Turns out it was triple negative breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nods. Mastectomy, radiation and chemo saved her life.
This could SAVE a life.

Reminder that anyone who grew their own breast tissue can get breast cancer. That includes trans women, intersex peeps, and cis men who may not have been aware there could be some breast tissue in there. The only way to be sure you don’t have any at all is if you’ve had it all removed. If you’ve had tissue removed for reasons other than cancer, they likely didn’t remove all of it. If you find something weird, regardless of who you are or how you identify, get it checked out.
All of you should reblog this. Breast cancer affects everyone and there’s not enough information about it.

Motivation & Discipline
anonymous asked: been studying the whole of june because my exams are after the holidays and i think I’ve lost motivation? what should i do? there’s no time for me to take a break :-(
The most difficult part of studying is definitely starting to study and sticking to it. Having motivation is helpful at first and will help you get started on your goals, but after this point it really comes down to your discipline to continue doing things!
What’s the difference?
Motivation is only going to encourage you to do something, whether it’s from looking at pictures or rewarding yourself after tasks.
Discipline is habit that forms out of the motivation you have given yourself previously. Eventually this task becomes normal to you and motivation won’t be necessary for you to do it. The task is just a regular part of your routine, like eating lunch.
Example: We all want to rest a few extra minutes (or hours) when our alarm rings in the morning. When this happens, you start having a mental talk with yourself. “Should I even go?” “Is sleeping in worth it?” You may even start motivating yourself to get out bed. “There’s a test today and I can’t miss it!” If you have discipline, you get out bed without this mental talk.
A lot of Studyblrs study based on motivation by reminding themselves about the rewards of studying, such as where they will be in the future if they study now. A lot even read quotes and look at photos & blogs. This is a good start if you are new to studying, but it’s definitely not efficient. A lot of people who study this way end up procrastinating because they give themselves breaks as a reward. Everything you have to do will build up, and that obviously isn’t fun! All you will want to do is crawl into bed.
Studying based on discipline means that you study out of habit — or that it has become a regular part of your routine. Like how you know when to eat, you know when to study. This is a lot more efficient than motivational studying because tasks won’t build up as bad. Instead of avoiding tasks and crawling into bed, you just do them.
How do you develop discipline?
The first step is understanding that sometimes you just have to do the task. Even if the task at hand isn’t fun, it has to be done! It’s now or later, and choosing later only leads to procrastination and task build-up.
Doing something sooner than later is a huge key in developing discipline. When you make the decision to put off work that needs to be done and to rely on your future self, your future self is going to be in a lot more stress and exhaustion! Things will continue to build up and won’t get done, either not on-time or not complete at all.
This can lead to you not getting the grades or qualifications you could have gotten, which may stop you from achieving your goals.
Comes to terms with the fact that some tasks are more important than others! You shouldn’t put scrolling through your dashboard, reblogging posts, watching Youtube, and even reading fan-fiction above more important tasks.
Learn to rely on yourself and yourself only. Like the first bullet, you simply have to do the task; you can’t say no or your future won’t be the way you want it to be! Disregarding the meme, keep telling yourself to just do it.
Know the difference between a break and simply stopping. If your break consists of you saying “I’ll do the rest later” or “I’ll continue tomorrow,” that’s not a break! Breaks should:
be no longer than an hour,
should be used to help you recharge, and
should have a task themselves.
Instead, say: “I’ll set a timer for 30 minutes so I can get a snack and relax.”
Remember: the point of a Studyblr is to help you study. Don’t just reblog aesthetic photos; reblog masterposts, resources, and things that will actually help you!
