artist should honest about not selling enough tickets. i feel like it shouldn’t be something to be ashamed about, especially knowing the economy is bad and ticket prices these days are too expensive. imo the transparency could actually lead to conversation about how concerts are becoming inaccessible and it could potentially lead to implementing regulations for ticket prices so they become affordable

If you can’t afford a tip, you can’t afford a sit down meal.

tipping was once for exceptional service. now in a world where everything has a touchscreen with 20% on it, it is just part of the cost of going out for food. As long as the waiter is not spilling food on you or cussing you out, you should be tipping them. I’ve heard a lot about how tipped worker wage should be higher and not on the customer to subsidize a business not paying their employees, but the truth is, are people saying that going to Congress and advocating for that? Yes employers are required to make up the difference, but it’s only per pay period, so if you don’t make enough in tips in one night, you might not be able to afford to eat the next day. Yes employers are exploiting people, but if you don’t tip, you’re a participant in that. Not tipping isn’t praxis. It’s unethical. if you can’t afford a tip, get takeout.

I wish there was some way to properly express my frustration when I see people make constant jokes about "ragebaiting Mexicans/PR/etc by calling them Latinx" because not only are they using it as a way to further put down brown people and frame them as "outdated/stupid" and "politically incorrect" but it also does the inverse where it makes fun of them because they're (rightfully) upset with you for using a term they don't want you to use. Latinx is an American term, it was coined/popularized by english speaking online spaces in the US while completely ignoring the fact that Latinx is barely pronounceable in spanish, AND the actual queer grassroots movements started by Latine groups. There's this overall violent presence with Americanized (white) queers and how they attempt to enforce their colonialist mindsets on other parts of the world (and also their own non-white communities) because it's seen as "more progressive" and that the Black and brown people need "educating" and I'm so so tired of it.

If someone identifies as Latinx, that’s their prerogative, but it does not give people the right to apply it to our community as a whole. It has a 2-4% popularity rating among US Latinos that is actively dropping. I don’t even understand why it’s a debate.

It’s very frustrating to see white queer people understand people’s rights to dictate their own labelling until it comes to brown people not liking a term that is linguistically imperialistic. Please do not call my community by labels that we can’t even pronounce in our mother tongues

the zendaya thing isnt even a new phenomenon by any means!! the article mentions margot robbie wearing the taj mahal diamond as well, and in addition to that i also want to remind people that diljit dosanjh's request to wear the patiala necklace for the 2025 met gala was denied by cartier because they said it was in a museum and could not be loaned. however they had no issues at all loaning it to emma chamberlain, a white woman, for the 2022 met gala, while they turned down the request of a punjabi man who wanted it to honor his heritage.

this behavior is nothing new. the global south and everything in it - the people, the culture, our heritage - is seen as nothing more than a decoration or commodity to colonizers. i don't even need to bring up the koh i noor or the entire british museum; these examples are recent and egregious enough on their own.

of course this is not to imply that any of the people involved here - zendaya, margot robbie, or emma chamberlain - had any sort of malicious intentions. but the ignorance is just as bad in my opinion. the ignorance is just as harmful, if not more. because it means we are not even an afterthought. it means that the real people and histories and heritages of the global south do not even register when these people are putting together looks for their movie premiers and met gala appearances. everything is just reduced down to a shiny piece of jewelry whose history they need not bother with. it's just a continued reminder of the way colonization affects us all even long after independence, of how barely-healed wounds keep being reopened even decades later. even now, we are being denied connections to our histories and heritages while they are freely being given out to those that have nothing to do with it and don't care for it. and i'm sick of it.
