âAn aquarium hangs from the ceiling. I light the aquarium with the light of a mercury lamp, and shine the shadows of the ripples in the water onto a white floor. In this way one has the impression that the floor is covered in water around twenty centimeters deep. Visitors can dip their feet into this imaginary water.
Water drips into the aquarium from a device above it. Sometimes the drops fall randomly like raindrops. Sometimes they fall around and around, like playing tag. Sometimes the drops fall all at once, and the ripples make geometrical patterns like flowers.â

UBI needs to happen. via antiwork
I think most importantly, it would give us the leverage to say ânoâ. To walk away from bad jobs and abusive managers. To refuse to work in unsafe environments. To demand better pay.
To demand better, because the options are no longer âsuck it upâ or âdieâ.
The counter-argument: Not having UBI is in the interests of those in power who want to do anything to the people they are in power over in order to remain in power.
If the greed of the few should come before the need of the many.

You know what I love?Â
Reminding people that the majority of wage theft is committed by âsmall, localâ businesses and that their idealizing of small businesses is stupidÂ
All my worst bosses have been small business owners â the problem isnât the size of the business, itâs that the relationship is exploitative. When someone decides to be a capitalist, making money through their investments rather than through their labour, their position relative to changes in the city becomes fundamentally different. Gentrification, as an example: when rents go up, it means they make more money (rather than lose their home); when prices go up and rich people move in, it means a chance to sell luxury goods (while we work for minimum wage); when more police and surveillance come in, it secures your investment (while we get harassed and pushed out). They are getting rich because our lives are getting worse.
