the issue with jedi internal politics in rots is that they promoted anakin to upper level administration with all the requisite duties but refused to update the system or his staff id or give him a pay raise (the jedi title of master) to reflect this and so he still doesn't have access to the upper level admin exclusive staff lounge (jedi archives restricted section). does that make more sense to you

like it doesn't matter that it's palpatine who requested that promotion, the issue is just that anakin got promoted and got the requisite extra responsibilities but not the bonuses that would otherwise come with the new job

Not just that. The Council makes it a point to embarass and punish him for it with a moment that is eerily similar to how they isolated and looked down upon him as a child in the middle of their chamber.

They push Anakin into an assignment that goes against his principles and the institutional relationship of the Jedi Order and Galactic Senate, AND YET, they still purposely make him feel excluded and inferior. Imagine employing an agent for a risky task while also tarnishing your working relationship with them… it doesn’t make any sense unless they’re just incompetent.

It’s not surprising that when Anakin reaches peak desperation (haunted by unrelenting nightmares and the need to save Padmé from his premonitions), Palaptine’s claims that “the Jedi are trying to take over…they’re holding you back… I can help you” begin to make a lot of sense and begin to sound like the answer to all of his problems.

Something I don't understand is how people don't understand that the message the Original Trilogy wants to give is that the Jedi weren't perfect, and they had a lot of flaws. On top of that, it also gives an anti-Jedi (better said anti-Jedi Order) mentality.

Why?

The whole trilogy is about Obi-Wan or Yoda telling Luke to kill Darth Vader and trying to make him think that would save the galaxy. And you know what Luke does? He disobeys. He refuses to kill his father, and that ultimately is what saves the galaxy. Nor the Jedi Order nor the Jedi Code saved the galaxy. What saved the galaxy were the morals of a boy who refused to kill his father, whose love for him made him see the good within. Whose love for him made Luke want to save Anakin. And by saving Anakin from the Dark Side, instead of killing him, the Empire was defeated.

If Luke had done what Obi-Wan and Yoda told him to do, if he had followed their orders and believed in their "those who fall to the Darkside are too far gone" "you have to kill the Sith because you can't save them" "don't get attached" (because yes, Luke loved and was attached to his father) mentality, the galaxy would have been doomed.

do people not understand that anakin is not in his right mind???? like, he turned to the dark side, that should be a sign not everything is okay.

everything and everyone can be a trigger for him and all anger he consumed, being absolutely full of not himself, but anger and hatred, has ripped through him and that’s why he force chokes padmé and wants to kill obi-wan — because the only thought of “she’s betrayed me, he’s betrayed me, they are against me” is triggering him, and then he thinks that he should show them his anger and his revenge for that.

Anakin Skywalker was not intrinsically evil, but rather, he eventually descended into evil.

Yes, he struggled with a lot of unresolved trauma. Yes, he made very poor decisions at times and eventually commited unspeakable crimes. Yes, he is accountable for the role he played as Sidious’ enforcer (slave). Nobody is disputing the gravity of all of that. BUT his descent into darkness should also be considered through the context of multiple factors, poor circumstances, maladaptive environments, bad influences, manipulative/neglectful or grooming mentors, and oppressive/corrupt institutions of a dying republic.

At one point, Anakin Skywalker was simply a young, bright eyed boy who made the most out of his life as a slave. He was willing to sacrifice everything for strangers he had just met without asking anything in return. At one point, he was a lost young man who just wanted love and connection despite facing reppression and loss at every turn. At one point he was a desperate, war-torn, traumatized man trying to save the love of his life and was manipulated into a bargain he never should have made.

George Lucas wanted to write a story where the hero becomes the villain. It’s important to remember that any of us can become monsters, betray our principles, and hurt others if placed within the perfect storm of circumstance. Evil cannot be properly defined by personality, genes, or certain traits. We all have the potential to inadvertenly lose ourselves and become the very things that we swear we would never be. It would be naive to think otherwise.

Just because Anakin Skywalker eventually becomes Darth Vader does not mean that he was “always evil.” It definitely does NOT mean that he “never truly loved his loved ones” or was “always selfish.” Honestly, these takes are weird and do not make sense with the message of Star Wars. Anakin’s journey in the prequels is a tragedy.

If those were the case^ then it’s not supported by how the films are constructed. The character foundations established in TPM would cease to make sense. Luke Skywalker’s victory on the death star—achieved not by killing Vader but by saving his father from the darkness he fell into—would be diminished and seem almost foolish.

Vaderdala Week 2026 Prompt: Haunted & Classical Literature.

I chose to make an edit for this 8-month old story because a) I’m teaching myself how to use CapCut, which is oodles of fun and b) you will find me geeking out about all my literary inspiration in the author’s notes and comments throughout this particular Vaderdala fic. It’s my love letter to the Gothic Romance genre that I’m still quite proud of today! @vaderdalaweek

The thought that Anakin only “loves the idea” of Padmé doesn’t really make sense because it’s contradictory to the narrative of the PT and its tragic love, which sets up the OT’s later fulfillment of that love.

But even besides all that, I don’t think people appreciate TPM enough. Anakin doesn’t meet Padmé as Queen or Senator Amidala. He doesn’t meet her when she’s at her most powerful or even most beautiful state. He doesn’t even meet her in the midst of the Amidala persona, which she’s artfully crafted, at all. All he sees is what he thinks is just a random girl who just happened to walk into his shop. He’s immediately taken by her and calls her an angel. He fell in love with her before he even fully knew how important she was.

A consistent theme throughout TPM and later AOTC is that, while everyone adores Padmé Amidala, Anakin adores Padmé Naberrie. He sees her for who she is beneath it all. He understands what it’s like to be dehumanized, to have to give one’s self away to a cause, and how devastating all that is for one’s life. He offers his unconditional devotion to her because she’s Padmé and he loves her, not because of her title, power, or what she could do for him.

The love they share is not conditional or superficial. It’s at the core of who he is. When he’s torn apart by conflict in ROTS between the Jedi and the Chancellor, he never truly makes any decision based on power or his ideals. Every decision he makes is based on his desperation to save her life, regardless of what it might cost him. He knows it will cost him. Unfortunately, the literal personification of evil uses that love against him.

the argument that anakin was only in love with the idea of padmé and not padmé herself is a shit idea that is completely misaligned with canon and show that you slept through TPM, AOTC and ROTS, actually.

anakin is the one person who knows and loves BOTH padmé naberrie and senator amidala. he knows that she can be stubborn - they have arguments throughout AOTC.

he is WELL aware of who his wife actually is, thank you very much.

his decision to fall was very much 'she will hate me but at least she will be alive' and by mustafar he's completely out of his mind

Skyberrie Sketch💖

So I'm a very big fan of the Prequels as well as the political theming of the first three movies, but I really love Anakin and Padme so bad. They're in my top five ships every tbh. They just hit everything I love in a ship, tension, passion, angst, fluff, they're just so beautiful. I hate how doomed they are.

This is my first time actually drawing them [I did a gruvia sketch with their promo art as a reference so slight lie there😬😭]. I think the most important part of sketching or drawing new characters is to nail expressions and identifiable features, details will come later.

Even though the dialogue between these two weren't always perfect [blame George Lucas and just read the novels instead], I always loved the crazy eye contact and chemistry between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. They just look so in love y'know?

Hope y'all like this first attempt with them, I might draw more of them in the future and pretend the last 30 minutes of Rots isn't real 🙃.
