Me 10 years ago: I never use online abbreviations! standard english all the time!
Me a couple of years ago: u kno wat fuck it
Me now: it is impossible to communicate effectively online without using internet slang due to the mixed mode format and lack of paralinguistic features. Things like lack of punctuation, abbreviations, acronyms and such all have their own connotations and communicate far more than their commonly accepted meaning. Linguistics has evolved. n u kno what i love it
That top chart is 70 years of San Francisco housing prices. There are some ups and downs, but for the most part there is a very simple trend: 6.6 percent.
The bottom chart almost perfectly predicts the San Francisco housing market using only three variables:
1) The number of jobs located in San Francisco County. 2) The number of places in San Francisco County for people to live. 3) The total amount of money that is paid to everyone who works jobs in San Francisco County.
Basically, these variables can predict (with startling accuracy) how much the median two-bedroom apartment in San Francisco will cost to rent.
It follows that if we could change (1), (2) or (3), then we could maybe change what it costs to rent a place in San Francisco.
According to this article, the way to make San Francisco as affordable as (say) Portland would be to
1) cut everybody’s salary in half
2) fire half of them
3) rapidly increase the number of homes by 50 percent, which would let the population rapidly leap to about 1.2 million.
I read The Martian today… And had a great time. As a Chem major, I can verify that everything Mark said about Chemistry is 100% true
I need to get this book. The movie was awesome
I was told this book was boring but it looks hilarious.
Who told you the Martian was boring? Lies.
yes good i too abhor the sloppy atheoretical “”science”” that is chemistry
Does anyone else pronounce it this way in their head?

for the phase of the party before you want bass-heavy electronic music. soundtrack for pirouetting around your room as you get all dressed up. (I have been making lots of @8tracks playlists over past month. If you want an indie playlist on a theme I would definitely make it for you.)

A #force4ham vid, because I am not getting over these two any time soon.
Thanks to @laventadorn AGAIN, who still isn’t sick of me yet. :)
This Star Wars and Hamilton crossover video obviously did not make me tear up a bit because I am a reasonable adult.

Finally got around to actually using what I’ve learned about git, and I now have my current homework assignment on version control.
If you think that git is only useful for group projects, you are wrong! Even just having all of the changed lines since the last working commit highlighted is worth it, for when you lose track of what exactly you messed with that is causing all these new runtime errors.
Being able to just roll-back if you give up makes it double worth it.
Yes! Git is sometimes an important executive function support for me. “Ok, what the fuck was I even doing?” *git diff* “Oh, right”
I relate so much to the above. “Why was I...? *diff* Oh, thanks, git.” happens all. the. time.
