She's "basically" Will. Y'ALL. lmao. The writing is SO on the nose about Mike trying so hard to replace Will with El... in a romantic capacity... and being unable to.

This has 100% been the intent from the very beginning !

Edit: I also think this comparison they set up in S1 triggers a bunch of vine booms in my head: Mike saying El looks "pretty good" when she looks like a girl, and "REALLY pretty" when she looks like a boy/CANONICALLY like Will. Like... i'm dead.

I also love how they have will touch Mike's thigh, then when Mike spins around to look at him, an extra blocks El in the shot like she's not even there bc to mike, she disappears as soon as Will's in his field of view (hence him not noticing her glaringly obvious discomfort at the rink but catching Will's every little micro-expression).

put a finger down if you run a writing blog where everyone thinks you’re some kind of literary genius because you can churn out funny little text posts about the agony of the creative process, but actually your prose looks like a half-finished fanfiction draft from 2012 and every time you open your google doc you’re like “oh. so THIS is what fraud looks like,” and then you think well maybe people would still read my book because they like me but then you spiral into the thought that if they actually read my chapters they’d realize my sentences are either aggressively boring or way too dramatic, and suddenly the thought of ever publishing anything makes you feel like you’re standing naked on a stage in front of everyone you’ve ever known, so instead you go back to posting silly little lowercase writing posts on tumblr because at least here people think you’re brilliant and mysterious and not just some gremlin typing “he sighed. she sighed. they all sighed” fifty times in a row.
