i wrote this post with happy tears in my eyes sitting in a parking lot after getting coffee for 3 hours with someone i did youth shakespeare with when we were teenagers and hadn't seen in 15 years, in which time we both transitioned, got into nerd shit, found a job that feels good, found people to spend our gay little lives with, and coincidentally moved to the same city. this is exactly how it felt. never ever ever kill yourself
I've met with one of my friends when I was still on high school. I helped translate Warcraft comics into my language and he (back in the day "he/him" so I will use he for the past sense) was in charge of the translation. We argued, both stubborn but we found a common ground and became friends. We talked a lot about writing and he even helped me with writing as he was a fantasy author with a few published books. After some time he withdrew and stopped responding. Few years passed and during covid he shaved a massive beard and we first thought it was because of face masks. But suddenly he came out as she. I immediately was like "omg now everything makes so much sense" and I was really happy so many people around were supportive. When I look back, our conversations were more like a girl talk and even the tone of voice and body language were more feminine but I just thought of it as a quirk of some sorts (I was much younger and never met someone before transition so it was hard to catch it back then). Suddenly after she transitioned, her depressions improved a lot and she even started writing again. It's like being allowed to be your true self is the cure for many things.

no piece of teen media has ever accurately depicted the quiet psychological warfare of bullying. bullies on TV are always dumb brutes and not the evil geniuses of emotional manipulation that they are in real life. being given a wedgie and having your lunch money stolen is nothing in comparison to a classmate quietly creating a taboo against speaking to you that they intend to enforce against all the other kids. it’s nothing like continuous cutting comments from people you thought were being nice to you. that way that the work of one kid can make you feel like every person on earth silently hates you and that you are dirty, disgusting, worthless, creepy and useless. that you can have friends but many of them will not speak to you at school for fear of the social consequences on their end. how that damage lasts in any social setting for the rest of your life
you can’t even “tell a trusted adult” because you cannot begin to articulate the thousands of small transgressions you’ve experienced building to the horror of knowing your peers would like you dead. they don’t have to say it or hurt you physically. they have other ways of letting you know they’d prefer if you were worn fuel
the worst part is kindness as cruelty - the saying hi, the asking about your day, just talking to you and the joke is that anyone would ever want to talk to you and be interested in your life. it’s sickening and dehumanizing.

i can't express how absolutely important it is that when you make an edgy, brooding, badass character who's tough as nails and good at fighting and whatever, you HAVE to give them at least one reason to become completely helpless and pathetic. you have a panic attack quota to fulfill.
can i be honest tho i kinda hate makeup bc i love licking my lips and rubbing my hands on my face like a cat or a fly annd i also love wiping my eyes like a sleepy infant all the time so basically i cant do it

Bionicle inspired Red Star Astrolabe is something I wanted to make for 1 year probably? I finally pushed myself to sit down and start drafting it. This is the result.
I used to have an astrolabe pendant years back and it's still my most favorite pendant I've ever had. Plus we have an amazing Astronomical Clock in Prague. Aaaand Matoran were checking Red Star through a telescope in Mata Nui Online Game, so I just told myself "let's try and merge it together"?
I am not sure if people would like to see this as an enamel pendant but I really wanna wear it so I might make it anyway.

when i was reading the book entangled life which is about fungi and the author merlin sheldrake said that once he got his first author copies he was going to dampen the pages and use them to grow oyster mushrooms and yeast and then use the yeast to brew beer and then drink the beer with the mushrooms to complete the cycle of fungal knowledge. i was like really and truly this guy gets it

His brother cosmo's music is cool as fuck tbh. The sounds in that song? Made by running electrodes through mushrooms. He has songs where every single sound comes from the ocean- the sound of coral reefs growing, of otters, of icebergs. He has songs about pelicans. He's a fun musician!
I know that you mean the "bloop" sounds in the backing track were made by running electricity through a mushroom, but I'm fascinated by the implication that he ran electricity through a mushroom and those vocals are what came out.

You know, there's this cliché that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.
