finally  someone  who  was  on  the  same  page  as  him.  he  thought  whoever  he  asked  that  question  would  think  he’s  weird,  and  wouldn’t  want  to  talk  with  him  ❝  yes  !  why  couldn’t  they  give  us  a  map  ?  i  think  my  house  is  big,  but  this…  it’s  HUGE  ❞  but  it  was  always  easier  to  find  everything  in  your  own  home  ❝  we  could  accidentally  walk  into  a  room  we  are  not  allowed  to  be  in  ❞  not  that  he  would  care,  it’d  only  be  fun  if  he  found  something  that  was  private  ❝  i  know,  it’s  itchy  as  hell.  do  you  think  they’d  notice  if  we  ran  home  and  put  on  a  comfortable  t-shirt  underneath  the  suit  ?  but  i  think  they  would  see  my  shirts,  i  only  have  with  bands  or  other  weird  texts  on  them  ❞  

                  JOEY’S eyes widen in agreement - he was absolutely T H R I L L E D to have someone understand him; not even chandler could keep up with his way of thinking most days. ❝ i was asking for the directory when i first got here, but everyone just gave me a dirty look and ignored me; like - what’s up with that? did you accidentally go into a room too? ❞ people just didn’t get joey down here at ‘the good place’, he missed being in his nyc apartment where his friends would somewhat go along with what he’s trying to say. ❝ i highly doubt that. everyone will be so focused on our beautiful faces, they won’t even notice the t-shirts underneath our suits! you should totally wear what you want to wear. any chance you could lend me a shirt too? i think i leave a trail of glitter everytime i go somewhere, it might give out our tracks. ❞

         a crease starts to set in between sally’s eyebrows once she catches on the hint of sadness in the other’s tone. ❝ hey, you look a bit sad. what’s wrong ? is it the party ? ❞ she asks in a lowered tone. ❝ is it because of me ? if it is, my apologies. ❞ the woman tries to poke fun with a small smile. ❝ feel free to talk to me if you want. i’m not going anywhere tonight.  ❞ sally muses as she turns around, with her back against the glass.

                   MAL gives out a chuckle, knowing that finally someone understood her point. though she has to admit, she was somewhat glad she could continue her life. ❝ you couldn’t have said it better. i think there’s a ton of us here who forget about that. ❞

                  that question - that simple question that she hears makes mal slowly shake her head. she’s been here for awhile now, and NO ONE seemed to ask her how she REALLY was. ❝ i don’t think you’d want to hear my sob story. everyone is having such a good time, and i definitely don’t want to be such a drag. ❞ mal never opened up her problems; unless you were evie.  ❝ no, no, of course not! in fact - you being concerned was the highlight for me tonight. but you should be out there enjoying yourself, you know? ❞

Glancing around the room once more at the other’s words, she was sure every time she looked around she spotted something new. It seemed so grand, that it would take a while to fully appreciate all the details. “Tahani really did outdo herself.” She spoke certain nobody could say otherwise. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but they could all still appreciate the effort put in. Letting out a soft sigh, she shot the other a grateful smile as she took the water. “Thank you, seems exactly what I need.” She joked, holding up the glass in mock cheers before taking a sip. “Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?” She wasn’t sure if anyone would make them in the good place, but it was the usual question asked at that time of year.

                  who knew the afterlife could be so ... GLAMOROUS? ohio was just a sad, lonely town compared to here. the only time she ever had gotten dressed up was either prom or getting ready to go to a show choir championship.  ❝ it must’ve taken all night to set this up. ❞ even the balloons were FANCIER than her.  ❝ well, i wanted to try and attempt to work out at least once a week - but i highly doubt that’s going to last! ❞ marley gives her head a shake, knowing that none of her new year’s resolutions really pulled through. ❝ maybe ... start writing everyday? just to get my thoughts or ideas on a piece of paper. ❞ part of her held back what she really meant, which was songwriting. but what is there to make a song about? death? passing away? loneliness? ❝ what about you? ❞

“Learning how to dance wasn’t on my list of New Years resolutions.” Din’s arms were crossed as he leaned against the wall at the back of the club. He had been released from his hired job as a busker, so he was left to kill time. He figured he could slip in a few drinks without being detected, but he should have known better not to count himself so lucky. “I’m sorry, you’ll have to find another partner.”

               jo  too  had  stolen  a  moment  away  for  herself  .  despite  the  beauty  of  the  afterlife  surrounding  her  ,  and  the  presence  of  her  sisters  and  best  friend  ,  something  was  missing  .  being  together  was  all  well  and  fine  ,  but  the  circumstances  tore  her  apart  ;  she  tried  not  to  think  about  it  .  but  how  could  she  not  ?  while  they  were  all  dancing  about  ,  their  poor  mother  was  probably  a  wreck  without  a  single  one  of  her  girls  .  it  didn’t  feel  fair  .  “  hm  ?  oh  ,  my  apologies  ,  i  hadn’t  noticed  you  .  yes  ,  it  has  been  interesting  to  say  the  least  .  ”

                  ‘the good place’ would’ve much more pleasing to her if her friends with her - but she couldn’t imagine that. they had so much to live for; like evie with her fashion business, carlos having an endless amount of dogs, jay being a professional tourney player ... and BEN ... nevermind that. ❝ what made your year interesting? ❞ she turns away from the window, facing the other being intrigued. ❝ i’d love to hear about it. ❞

                    she  waited  impatiently  for  the  male  to  answer  his  ,  hand  moving  to  form  a  fist  to  locate  itself  underneath  her  chin  .  she  raised  an  eyebrow  ,  showing  that  she  was  not  happy  with  the  way  she  was  approached  ,  he  had  reggie  mantle  written  all  over  him  &  the  fist  that  was  holding  up  her  head  was  itching  for  contact  .  ‘‘  oh  -  i  heard  you  ,  i’m  confused  as  to  why  you  decided  to  take  one  look  at  me  &  think  that  i  would  drop  to  my  knees  in  hopes  to  hold  a  conversation  .  ’’  she  stated  as  she  leaned  back  in  her  seat  ,  crossing  her  legs  &  looking  the  male  up  &  down  to  make  her  own  judgement  .  ‘‘  i’ll  give  you  one  more  try  before  i  actually  make  you  regret  you  even  thought  of  speaking  .  ’’

                  the day had finally arrived - it was joey’s TRAGIC downfall. never did he expect that it would come, especially with one of the most stunning females he stumbled upon. well, probably besides RACHEL or even JANINE - but that was besides the point. how on earth did his most famous catchphrase f a i l him? ❝ oh dear goodness, i’m in hell right now! ❞ his tone turns into terror, running his hands through his hair in embarrassment. ❝ you know what, just forget it. i’ve lost my touch, and i - ❞ joey has never felt so defeated in his life to the point where he just gives up like that. ❝ nevermind! ❞

phoebe  could  be  quite  social  when  she  wanted  to  be.  and  when  she  did  want  to  be,  she  often  left  those  around  her  quite  confused  with  her  conversation.  that  didn’t  mean  her  curious  side  left  her,  though.  if  there  was  one  thing  she  loved  to  do,  it  was  snoop.  she  wasn’t  exactly  sure  whose  home  this  was,  but  was  that  going  to  stop  her  from  going  into  every  room ?  absolutely  not.  the  last  thing  she  expected  to  see  was  a  sad  blonde  staring  out  a  window.  phoebe  wasn’t  the  best  in  emotional  situations  and  she  could  tell  this  girl  was  DEFINITELY  going  through  it.  as  long  as  they  weren’t  making  eye  contact,  phoebe  felt  it  wasn’t  her  problem  to  fix.  " i  mean,  yeah !  you  could  probably  say  that  about  every  year.  there  is  something  almost  calming  about  saying  it  at  the  end  of  each  year,  though,  i’ll  give  you  that. “

                  it felt strange to find someone who appeared to make a fair point - mainly because mal wasn’t used to the people around here. she was right; it was a common phrase that practically everyone has said at least once during new year’s eve, maybe it was a sense of SATISFACTION? ❝ yeah, i totally see your point. kinda wraps everything up, huh? but, you’re most definitely right. ❞ mal was looking forward for the year to end; a new fresh start, but was it really? ❝ how come you’re out here and not in there? ❞ she didn’t need to point in the direction, it was quite obvious what room the female was referring to. ❝ i’m guessing a bit of alone time? though, it’s impossible to find an empty room in this massive place. ❞

 erin  doesn’t  mean  to  disturb  the  other’s  quiet  time  ,  in  fact  she’s  only  gotten  glamoured  by  how  pretty  the  sky  looks  as  midnight  draws  nearer.  her  eyes  widen  a  little  as  she  is  spoken  to  ,  glancing  around  her  for  anyone  else  she  could  be  talking  to.  “oh  ,  me  ?  yeah  ,  it’s  been  just  so  crazy.”  she  takes  the  woman’s  comment  as  an  invitation  to  have  a  discussion  ,  which  erin  is  delighted  to  participate  in.  “what  was  your  favorite  month  this  year  ?  or  week  ?”  she’s  smiling  as  she  moves  to  stand  next  to  the  stranger.

                  her deep SIGH fills in the space between them, knowing this year just felt ... unexpected in a way. she could stop dwelling on the negativity; but how can she? ❝ at least yours has been crazy. mine just feels lonesome. ❞ it felt nice to not be in the crowd after so long and engage with someone who could understand her point. ❝ that’s quite hard, i’d say... ❞ a pause remains, reflecting back at her past - why did it appear to be this difficult? ❝ ... around may? it was a very exciting time in my life for me. ❞ mal turns her head for her to ask the same question. ❝ what about you? hopefully you’ve had a much better year than i did. ❞

                    he  was  far  more  drunk  than  what  was  needed  ,  the  endless  amounts  of  shrimp  that  were  in  his  pockets  were  enough  to  prove  that  .  he  was  trying  to  make  a  beeline  for  the  door  ,  knowing  that  tahani  would  be  on  his  case  for  the  mess  he  had  managed  to  make  not  even  two  seconds  earlier  until  he  was  cornered  by  a  tiny  blonde  .  taking  in  a  deep  breath  ,  he  let  it  out  as  a  defeated  sigh  ,  hearing  her  comment  .  ‘‘  tell  me  about  it  ,  kiddo  .  i’m  over  here  stealing  in  the  afterlife  ,  as  if  kimmy  can’t  get  me  shrimp  .  ’’  he  said  ,  taking  the  handful  out  of  his  pocket  to  hold  out  to  her  .  ‘‘  want  some  ?  ’’

                  eyebrows raise, trying her hardest not to laugh at him. it was clear that he was drunk, noticing the smell of alcohol traveling through the air. ❝ oh my. looks like we got a troublemaker on our hands, huh? ❞ teasing, she stares down at the shrimp below a bit hesitant on taking one. ❝ as appetizing that must be from your pocket, it’s alright. but thank you though, ❞ the shrimp just reminded her of uma - after all, that was her nickname. ❝ it seems like someone’s having some fun here. please tell me you’ve eaten other things besides shrimp. there’s a ton of selection out there besides ... that. ❞

                    ‘‘  you  don’t  —–  ’’  he  huffed  ,  arms  crossed  tightly  over  his  chest  as  he  stood  across  from  tahani  ,  unable  to  even  fathom  how  she  was  throwing  a  party  without  karaoke  .  how  else  was  he  supposed  to  get  a  midnight  kiss  ?  by  talking  to  the  women  around  him  ?  yeah  ,  that  was  highly  unlikely  .  ‘‘  who  the  fork  throws  a  party  without  karaoke  ?  that’s  like  a  rule  in  the  books  of  party  throwing  -  even  old  age  homes  have  karaoke  nights  .  do  not  walk  away  from  me  ,  tahani  !  ’’  he  yelled  ,  one  second  away  from  stomping  his  foot  on  the  ground  as  he  groans  ,  reaching  up  to  rub  his  left  temple  .  ‘‘  how  else  is  someone  supposed  to  fall  madly  in  love  with  me  if  i  can’t  show  them  my  falsetto  ?  ’’

                  hearing the loud voice from behind made MARLEY turn in curiousity. did she hear that right? karaoke? god - she couldn’t remember the last time she’d sung. but yet, she couldn’t bare the fact to come back to her OLD ROOTS again. a smile appears on the woman’s face, approaching the troubled man. ❝ there are tons of other ways to win someone’s heart, you know! ❞ simple things like flowers, poems, or even just signs of affection were things marley LOVED - you could say that cheesiness was the way to her heart. ❝ unless you could just belt out into song here? i’d love to hear that falsetto of yours and see if that actually works. ❞

“ Shirt ! ” Sally exclaims. Her torso suddenly stoops dangerously close to the ground as her legs suddenly give in. She basically crawls to the nearest bench, bumping into the person standing near it. 

“ In case you were curious, pain, unfortunately exists here. ” Sally quips after noticing the other person too late. “ Gosh, I don’t think I’ve ever had a cramp this bad, even when I was alive. “ She groans as her hands massage her right calf.

                  the sound of pain ALARMS him, confused if there was a fight nearby or someone who clearly needed some a t t e n t i o n. however, he was clearly wrong - his position shifted, moving towards the girl making sure she was alright. ❝ do you need some help? i can do whatever you need me to do, ❞ his hands are rested upon her back, hoping he could be of some assistance. ❝ yeah, no kidding! i accidentally ran into a pole a few days ago - clearly puppies are the ultimate distraction. i also spilled a fresh cup of coffee on myself too! i’m pretty sure i can still feel the burns, ❞ he was hoping to at least crack a smile with her to LIGHTEN up the mood. ❝ i guess the pain is a reminder that ... we’re still alive somehow? er ... something like that, right? ❞

Smoothing out the skirt of her dress, she glanced around the room with a placid smile on her face. Watching everyone else look as though they were having a good time was raising her spirits - and the few people who seemed to truly embody the party spirit were amusing to watch. Finally raising the drink she’d picked up an hour ago to her lips, all it took was one small sip for her smile to turn into a grimace - before a couple of coughs escaped her. Looking apologetically at the person nearest her, she held up the glass in explanation. “It was a little stronger than I was anticipating. Whoever’s in charge of the drinks wanted to give out the good stuff.”

                  MARLEY always avoided alcohol - mainly because it serves no interest to her and especially the foul taste. boring as it is, she’d much preferred a SHIRLEY TEMPLE or even SPARKLING APPLE CIDER. hearing the coughs from the person near her made marley turn her head to look at the stranger - at least someone was having a good time. ❝ for some reason, that doesn’t seem to surprise me. this party is absolutely INSANE, they did such a good job planning everything, ❞ her gaze shifts around the room, looking at all the decorations and the sophisticated environment. ❝ you want some water? ❞ marley lets out a laugh, offering her glass in hopes her throat would s o o t h e.

 ❝this  is  the  worst  night  ever!❞  hayden  roars  ,  to  no  one  in  particular.  but  let’s  be  honest  ,  she  wouldn’t  be  making  such  a  spectacle  of  herself  if  there  weren’t  at  least  a  few  people  mingling  outside  on  the  beautifully  lit  patio.  she  sits  on  the  polished  wood  railing  ,  feet  swinging  pitifully  over  the  grass.  hayden  enjoys  pity  ,  and  attention.  she  always  has.  it’s  the  motivation  for  most  of  her  behavior  ,  so  much  so  that  it  is  almost  subconscious  ,  in  that  she  actually  kind  of  feels  pretty  terrible.  she  glances  to  the  person  closest  to  her  ,  and  then  huffs  ,  turning  away  and  moving  the  veil  she’s  wearing  ,  over  her  face.

                  a frown appears on her face, knowing that no one should feel UPSET during a night like this. it was almost a new year; a chance for new beginnings. ❝ are you okay? did something happen? ❞ there she was again, with her MOTHERLY INSTINCTS even though she’s not a mother. ❝ come on, we still have all night to make it better! there’s this amazing cake i tried awhile ago that they’re serving, maybe it’ll cheer you up! ❞

❝  how  are  we  gonna  be  able  to  move  around  here  ?  ❞  luke  asked  whoever  was  nearby  as  he  looked  around  their  surrounding.  people  everywhere,  wherever  he  walked  and  the  house  was  not  small  ❝  you  can’t  find  anything  either.  like  where  is  the  bathroom  or  where  to  you  find  the  food  ?  i’m  confused  over  everything  ❞  those  were  the  most  important  places  he  had  to  know  where  they  are  ❝  and  why  are  we  forced  to  wear  this  ?  to  have  a  dress  code  is  strange  ❞  he  pointed  towards  his  outfit.  first  time  wearing  a  suit  and  he  didn’t  like  it.  he  could  wear  a  onesie,  but  he  thought  they  would  get  too  warm,  or  maybe  he  should  have  picked  that,  because  the  suit  didn’t  feel  like  him. 

                  it was about time that someone had the same questions that joey had. for some bizarre reason it felt like no one had any answers to ... anything. well, maybe unless you were kimmy - but it’s not like she was gonna BUDGE anytime soon, right? ❝ dude, my point exactly! this place is as big as an elephant, i need some kind of map or something, ❞ shoulders and eyebrows are raised, knowing that there was still so much to EXPLORE here. ❝ yeah, i don’t get that either. i’d very much like to be back in my jeans and t-shirt right now. i can already feel my suit tighten over how many things i’ve eaten. not only that - but it’s really REALLY itchy. ❞

                  it was no question that MAL felt a sense of l o n e l i n e s s in her heart knowing that these kinds of event were shared with her friends. not even her favorite chocolate covered strawberries could distract her from everything. her footsteps trail away from the group of people that were gathered from the extravagant party; glancing out the window, wondering what her loved ones were doing back at home. ears are perked up as she can sense the NOISE from the other person reach closer to her, only for her to remain her focus through the glass at the night sky. ❝ what a year it’s been, huh? ❞
