This is part of why I love the Doctor with Donna so much. Her mother, her own mother, beat down her self esteem so much, to the point where Donna felt she was worthless and nothing and would always be that way.

And here comes to Doctor, doing what he does, and letting her know that she’s amazing, that she’s wonderful, that she is brilliant and important… and they were great for each other. They had an amazing friendship, and I will forever be sad that Donna had to forget that she wasn’t as useless as her mother made her think she was.
