Shane laughed, which made Ilya’s heart race. What if he’d never heard Shane’s laugh again?
i truly think one of the most appealing things about shane and ilya to me is that there’s no favorite. they’re both equally as talented, hot, and fucked up. and i've personally never experienced that with a ship before. there’s always been one side of a couple that i’ve aligned with or frankly enjoyed more, but with hollanov, i’m full sending for both of them just in different ways. i think it’s a combination of storytelling (both the books and scripts) and character embodiment from hudson and connor that’s made both characters so wonderful and relatable. and their LOVE, god, they’re so powerful together, it’s amazing 🥹
Shane didn’t freak out during the tuna meltdown just because Ilya said his name. He freaked out because he said Ilya’s name. He could’ve let Ilya saying his first name slide, but no. He paused. Looked that man in the eyes and said Ilya’s name so emphatically because he meant that shit. And that scared him. Because Shane was not ready to confront the fact that he most definitely had feelings for a man. A man that was a fellow hockey player. A man that was his professional rival. A man he thought only saw him as a fuck buddy. Shane had no idea Ilya felt the same way. Ilya didn’t even know he felt the same way. Shane left because it was all becoming too real. He left because he didn’t want to leave. He left because he realized he was falling in love with Ilya and that scared him.
Heated Rivalry, p. 75
Let’s talk about Ilya learning to let Shane take care of him. How at the cottage it was Fine because Ilya was a guest, so of course Shane offered him things. Of course he made him coffee and cooked for him and tucked a blanket around him. But then they’re living together and Shane just keeps doing it. Like, he goes to make himself a smoothie and makes one for Ilya too. Or he plugs Ilya’s phone in when he notices the battery is getting low. And then one day they get home from practice and Shane grabs both their bags out of the car. Ilya reaches for his, says, “I got it,” but Shane just says, “You’re sore, Ilya.” Which, ok, Shane is sore too. So Ilya grabs the strap from the other end and tries to pull it back, like, “Yeah, but I can carry my bag,” and Shane just goes, “No, really, let me.”
And, ok, Ilya’s a little frustrated now.
“I can do it, Shane.”
“Why are you making this difficult? Just let me carry your bag.”
“I'm making this difficult? I can carry my own fucking bag.”
And they’re just standing there playing tug of war a little with this stupid hockey bag, until Shane’s expression softens.
“I like doing things for you. I like...taking care of you,” Shane says quietly, all big soft eyes looking back at Ilya, and Ilya deflates like a balloon.
instances of shane, the worlds most jock, calling ilya baby:
“Baby, what time is it?”
“Huh? Hold on, baby, I can’t hear you. Fuck, it’s loud in here.”
“Fuck, Ilya, yes, like that, baby, just like that, fuck—“
“Ilya, what’s— Are you crying? What’s wrong, baby, it’s okay, it’s— What’s wrong? Please, tell me, what’s wrong?”
“Fuckin’ A, Rozanov! Yes, baby! Fuck, that was a good one. C’mere.”
“Mm, baby, your feet are cold. Ah! Ilya, get your cold fucking feet off me. Put some socks on. Jesus.”
“Hold on, I’ll ask him— Baby, my mom wants to know if steak is good for dinner?”
“Your hair is so fluffy today. No, no, come back, let me— Yes. Thank you, baby.”
“Ilyusha. My baby. Ilyusha. You’re so pretty. Don’t laugh! I’m being serious!”
“You’re gonna have to skate better than that to beat me in the scoring race, baby, I’m locked in this season.”
“Fuck, baby, you’re burning up. No, asshole, I mean you’re sick. You can’t go to practice like this, don’t be fucking stupid.”
“Uh, just a beer, please. Thank you, baby, that’s perfect.”
“Ilya, baby, you want a pretzel?”
“Hi, baby. You looked good out there, that goal was fuckin’ insane.”
I do think that whenever Ilya calls Shane and Shane doesn't pick up, Ilya leaves a voicemail. And the voicemail can be anything from, "Come find me," because they got separated at the mall, to "Hello hello, I miss you, oke bye" because Shane has been out of the house all day. There's also, "Coffee shop says they don't sell your tea anymore. Tell me what you want instead. I leave in three minutes. Bye-bye." and "I will not be home when you get here. Running away to join circus. Maybe will be back with Thai food. Mwah mwah."
This is also how Shane ends up getting into his car, seeing that Ilya left a voicemail, and unthinkingly playing it through the speakers of the car only for the deep voice of Shane's Russian-accented husband to boom, "Answer your fucking phone. Slut." with both the windows and moon roof open.
I never thought the first thing I'd hear from Zuko after all these years would be him calling another man handsome, much less that minutes later he'd get Sokka to say he had a pretty face. Look, I know this is fanservice and queebaiting, I've been a victim of Klance and I know how this story is going to end, but at least let me enjoy these tiny crumbs of Zukka I'm getting.
ilya grabbing shane's jaw [for @madevampselle]
reasons shane and ilya should be evenly matched in size, height, weight, build, strength, athleticism, etc. in canon and in fanon
i find it hot
they’re comparable generationally talented first line center professional hockey players
positioning shane as smaller/shorter/daintier than his white dom top boyfriend perpetuates racial, gender, and sexual stereotypes
i personally find it REALLY hot
when he chooses to, shane can physically overpower ilya (hockey, shoving ilya into walls i.e. vegas rooftop and stairwell scenes) but when he wants to submit in bed, he allows himself to be pushed, carried, held down, etc. because they both like it and want it
feminist scholar jane ward: "queer circuits of desire do not rely on the erotic encounter of opposites"
they can wear each other's clothes in a cozy boyfriend hoodie "give. i miss your boring laundry smell" "why the fuck are all your clothes dry clean hand wash only" long distance yearning way or post-game sweat damp base layer horny way or "gross now i have cum on my sweats i'm stealing yours" "okei yay ♥" fondly annoyed way
in conclusion have i mentioned i think it’s really hot
Hands free. [x]
I just thought of this but maybe Shane at the cottage proposing his life long plan so they can be together when they retire, plus him being saying “boyfriend?” at the table means that in Shane’s head he was thinking they’d continue to be non exclusive until they could “be together for real” and I feel like it was for Ilya’s sake because Shane barely was with other people
I also feel like him being surprised (happily) about Ilya not being with anyone since the last time they were together also fits, like he’s happy to have any piece of Ilya he can get and wants forever but isn’t asking for more
"The kiss felt weird, and Shane realized it was because neither of them could stop smiling." — Heated Rivalry chapter 23
I also like you. Lucky me.
AJ: "Was it always a conscious choice for [Ilya] to always touch Shane's face?"
CH: "That's [Connor] living in the character."
