you hadn’t even peered up from your phone when he pressed a kiss goodbye to your forehead. his keys jingled as he lifted himself back up to rest his hands on his hips, you just knew he was pouting down at you.
“ignore me will you, baby?” jaemin joked, a smile on his face when you looked up. still, he felt that you two had been distant lately, and honestly, you had been. the stress of everything caught up to you, college and family issues. everything personal eating at you.
you stood, turning off your phone and slipping it into your back pocket. “i’m sorry, jaems.” you pecked his lips. his arms settled around your waist, bringing you closer to him. once yours warped around his shoulders, he kissed your forehead once again and pulled back.
“i’m heading out for work now, okay? i love you.” jaemin stepped back, trailing his hands down your arm and grabbing your hand to press a quick kiss to your knuckles.
you still loved him, really, you did. you’d just been so distant. hopefully you could still make it up to him.
“i love you too, jaem.” you smiled and waved back, but you were drawn back to your phone just seconds later. scrolling like you had been.
and now, you regret it more than ever.
your hope is gone. you can’t make it up to him.
you can’t even reach for his hand through the grass and dirt, through the hard wood of his casket. it’s physically impossible, and you can only wish to be closer to him every night.
“i love you, jaem.” you whispered into the chilled air in front of his tombstone. it’s been 2 months already, but you lost track of time. it all blurred now.
“i’m sorry.” you stood from your kneeling position, and dusted your knees. you two were so distant lately, and it’s only so much worse now.
