"Senpai, Leader-- behind you!"
By the time either boy heard Junpei’s cry to duck, it was already too late; Akihiko was struck clean in the chest and flung down, all of his strength gone as his vision dulled. Minato tried to block but couldn't foresee the second arm as it swung a sharp uppercut, knocking him down on his back, his sword scattered across Tartarus's golden floor. A fine mist covered the area before Io's Garu spell blew it away in a haste to clear out the new enemy.
Junpei and Yukari managed to handle the rest of the fight by themselves, but the moment it ended they were both by their teammates sides. Yukari called out for Mitsuru to ready the first aid kit on the base floor as Junpei was checking both of their vitals to make sure nothing worse than usual combat damage was sustained.
Other than two heavy bodies, thankfully, nothing seemed to be amiss, but they'd have to do more once they got back. Minato and Akihiko were definitely unconscious and Yukari groaned at the thought of having to carry either one of them down flights of stairs. Junpei didn't seem thrilled either, but Mitsuru assured them that the nearest teleporter was only a hall and corner turn away so it wouldn't take long.
After deciding on who to handle, Yukari--with Minato in tow--made her way over to the exit; Junpei carrying Akihiko shortly behind.
Once they'd made it through, both boys were placed on the floor next to Mitsuru's bike and the first aid supplies she'd begun laying out. They were given a fairly quick but detailed check, Mitsuru not noticing anything wrong besides the new scratches and bruises that she tended to. She guestimated that they'd both be awake by morning feeling very sore, but thankfully it was Sunday morning and they could spend the day healing (along with Yukari and Junpei). If worse came to worse, she'd let them stay home to recoup.
Once everything was packed away, they all called it a night and brought the boys back to the real world, helping them into their rooms and tucking them into bed just as the Dark Hour concluded.
‐------
By the time both boys came to, it was close to noon.
Akihiko woke up first punching the air, his body tense and his heartbeat erratic before realizing that it wasn't the Dark Hour anymore. He sighed deeply, falling back onto the mattress. It felt softer than usual.
He stared at the ceiling as he tried to recall the last 12 hours to no avail. All he can remember was getting jumped by that shadow. Where had it even come from? The enemies they were fighting were directly in front of them, yet this one had managed to sneak up behind him and Minato. Mitsuru hadn't even picked it up on her end to warn them.
The memory of the punch was still fresh in Akihiko's mind, yet the pain he felt wasn't in his chest. He placed a hand on his chin, noting that this was sore instead. His brows furrowed. How puzzling.
He then took a moment to stare at the light on the ceiling. Strange. The sunlight never streams blindingly over his eyes, and he's pretty sure that's because his bed faces away from the windows. When he lifted a hand to shade the rays, he paused. His arm looked a lot scrawnier than normal.
Infact, most of his body felt less muscular and... lighter? But why? What's going on?
When he attempted to pull the duvet back he froze, looking at the blue picnic patterned sheets... these aren't grey. Why aren't they grey.
Once the covers were fully off, he stopped moving altogether. A lithe torso greeted him, clothed in his familiar uniform attire; black slacks, and a white button up tee. But he immediately noted that his red vest wasn't on, nor were his gloves. Akihiko felt as if his heart had stopped beating.
What the fuck is going on?
Somehow, through the fog clouding his mind, he registered getting out of this unfamiliar(?) bed, and once his surroundings clicked for him, it made the unsteadiness worse. He gripped the edge of a desk, Minato's desk, and swallowed around nothing. The next few steps he was able to take landed him in front of a sink and mirror, Minato's sink and mirror, and he stopped cold. The heavy silence and breaths he tried to take felt so weighted that Akihiko swore this had to still be the Dark Hour. It was the only explanation as to why it felt like gravity had been turned to the max and why his legs did not want to cooperate now that he was barely standing upright.
Akihiko knew what the answer was, but looking up and confirming his thoughts made his stomach form knots. This had to be dream. This couldn't be real, right? Surely he'd raise his head and look in the mirror and think 'oh Junpei, your pranks are getting so much more elaborate--'
And yet when his eyes met the glass, all he could do was stare: stare back into the blue irises that were most definitely not his, and this long blue hair that was not cut short like his. To a button nose and round cheeks. To soft lips and a an eye hidden behind a curtain of hair.
Minato Arisato stared back at him. It took everything in Akihiko not to scream.
"AAAAAAHHHHH"
Luckily for him someone else did--and it sounded like it came from his room.
A sudden shuffle and (several) thuds followed up with scrambling could be heard on the opposite side of the wall connecting the room to Junpei's, which gave Akihiko a much needed break from his spiraling thoughts as his junior unceremoniously barged into the room a moment later.
"Minato! A-Are you okay?! I heard a scream and thought--oh, hey, wait, are you alright? You don't look so good."
Akihiko was glad that at least that much was obvious.
He nodded and opened his mouth to reply when his door across the hall clicked open, another set of frenzied footsteps making its way out before abruptly stopping partway through the hall at the sight of them.
It seems Minato wasn't doing any better than him.
Junpei turned around with a sudden jolt, not expecting to see his "senpai" barge through his own room so suddenly. He was also about to speak when Akihiko spoke instead.
"Ak--Minato. We need to talk. Now."
Akihiko sighed. Of course they do. This wasn't a dream after all.
Junpei looked between them with a grimace and seemed to understand the atmosphere. He was backpeddling with his hands up, easy not to make either boy more upset. "Okayyy, glad to know you're both alright. If you need me.... no you don't."
When both boys heard the soft lock of Junpei’s door, Akihiko shoved his way into Minato's room, grabbing Minato by his shoulders.
When the door shut, Akihiko hummed. "I'm guessing you're not here to find your phone."
Minato's expression was so unimpressed it took everything in Akihiko not to laugh at the absurdity of it all. He didn't know his face could even look like that.
"I'm not normally the type to freak out but I would have thought that you'd also be upset by this."
"My gut reaction was to scream but you kind of did that for me," the older of the two quipped, "although I am finding it funnier the more time goes on."
Minato narrowed his eyes at that. "Then I'm sure you'll be in stiches when I walk out of this room naked."
